so i was thinking maybe it might be fun to do group movie watches, where we could use one of those programs for long distance friends and do group votes on what we watch and stuff. i know it would be impossible to schedule it to work for everybody exactly every time, and i don't actually know of any good programs or sites to do this, only that they exist. what does everyone else think? a lot of us seem to like the same shows and movies, it might be fun to share that with each other. it could also be sort of informal instead like a cinema version of the book club threads where we decide on a movie and watch it when we do and then talk about it later. it sounds fun either way to me.
Possibly both? We live very spread out, so I don´t think watching a movie at the same time is feasible for everyone, but small groups could do it.
...hm, well does anyone know any good programs for that sort of thing? im not really in contact with the friend who used to use this sort of thing anymore so i cant ask her. i think finding a reliable service might be a good place to start. i tried googling it and i found one called synaptop but it requires you create a user profile and involves all kinds of convoluted nonsense it seems. also, is anyone actually interested in this? i feel like i might be jumping the gun a bit here. maybe i should try actually making friends first before the watching movies bit.
Oh hell yes, this seems like a super fun idea! It'd probably be best if we used something that let us stream our own files, though--especially since, ya know, DVDs are a thing, so that allows us a bit more variety.
Ooh, this could be cool. I'd love to be a watcher! Can't contribute to streaming, though, since my computer is a fossil of a Mac laptop (11 years old, I can't even update flash)...
I have Livestream on my laptop, so I might be able to stream sometimes. It's kinda glitchy and far from perfect, but it would work in a pinch...
Can I suggest mr. Jones, as a movie we watch? The props are all done by one of my favorite artists, and its got a lot of themes of guarding oneself from nightmares and what is reality and what makes a monster that I think people on this forum might really enjoy. Its creepy but not gory or violent.
it looks pretty good, i'll put it in the poll once i figure out how to do polls. although, i'm not sure about rating? if it gets picked i'll try and make a (hopefully not too spoiler-y) sort of content run down if anyone is interested. or they can just read the parents guide on imdb for it, it'll probably have lots of spoilers though...
Oh, were we looking for only pg and below? For this I would warn for brief (and subtle) sexy stuff, scary stuff, and a heads-up for derealization. Oh and like one 'fuck', not that I know why anyone cares. Hopefully thats helpful.
i don't think it'd necessarily have to only be pg stuff, i was just asking in general if that would make some people more comfortable to have the ratings and why its rated that clearly available. i'm actually really shit at setting up stuff like this and i wouldn't want to pick a movie and someone pop in during the middle to guts flying everywhere thinking it was something tamer, for example.
I don´t know if restricting to PG stuff is a good idea, it limits choices rather a lot. But maybe making sure there´s a good mix of darker and lighter stuff, and posting the rating and a general idea of what to expect for themes in here?
Oh shit, that sounds fun as hell. I've been wanting to do some streaming again. (Fair warning: my idea of a festive Valentines Day stream is "Misery" and "Fatal Attraction" back to back)
