You have sensory organs. Probably.

You think?

Your consciousness is weirdly stretched between a couple dozen places so you don't have as much brainpower to ponder this as you might.

A strange place for your awareness of yourself to begin, you think, you know you have existed before this, somewhere (when? Does it matter?)

A vague memory of being expelled from a dark and friendly void.

The world is new and you have light. The light feels nice and you begin to purr.

 

Kay looked up from her desk, tilted her head, then leaned back into her mic. "Listeners," she said, "apologies for the interruption, but a small void seems to have appeared in the studio. If anyone is missing a void, please call and let us know."

It seemed to be purring. That was interesting.

 

Ivy dialed up the radio station, disgruntled they were pretty sure the black droopy meowing thingy on her favorite striped organza wasn't supposed to be there.
"Kay? I have another one and it's... It's eating my fabric... STOP THAT!"
she tried to shoo the void off.

 

"Kay? Good morning. The void is probably my wayward offspring, I´m sorry I will collect them presently."
About 15 minutes later, Cody arrives at the studio with a large basket that is dripping fluffy void.
"Morning? I heard you had a void?"

 

Having moved to a small sponsorship ad when the switchboard lit up - Jesse's Organic Potatoes! good for what ails ya - she listened to Ivy's plight sympathetically. Which, of course, you can tell over the phone. She reassured Ivy that Intern @Moss would be along to report on the void, and also to pick it up.

When Cody entered the room, Kay smiled. "Hello Cody! I'm glad they were safe. There's one just there in the corner, and Intern Moss went to go get one from Ivy. They're quite lovely, by the way. Congratulations! I didn't know you had kittens."

 

"Thank mew. To be quite honest, I did not know until this morning either."
Cody tries to scoop up the void, which is unexpectedly difficult.
"Oh just come here you little rascals! You´ll get hurt of you run around like this!"

 

"Well! I'm sure you must be very happy then. I didn't know you had any void in your family!"

Kay helps to pick up the little voidkitten. It takes her a couple tries, but she gets a decent hold on it by the ... scruff of its neck. Possibly. She deposits the kitten in the basket of nothingness.

 

"Oh uh..." it´s impossible to tell under the fur but Cody is blushing. "They get that from Voids side of the family I think."

 

"Oh! That makes a lot of sense." Kay grins widely. "Congratulations to the both of you then! Would you like me to make an announcement of some sort to everyone?"

 

Ivy meanwhile has managed to seperate the kitten from her working materials and has it in her arms.

 

You are mostly in one place near... mom? You think?

And that place is warm. So you want more of you to be in that place.

So you begin slowly melding yourself together.

There are walls in the way, hmmmm. Well they're not so there all of a sudden.

HOLY...!
Ivy holds onto the drop of void as it tries its hardest to get to a wall and phase through it.
"Let's sty riiiiight here, kitty-friend!" she coos and scritches behind what she hopes is an ear.

 

You are conflicted.

There are scratches but warm basket.

You purr in somewhat delighted confusion.

 

"Perhaps youz had best ask void before you mention their name. And I am very sorry, but I have no idea how many they are or what their names might be."
Cody is holding the basket in her lap and petting the void inside gently.

 

Kay nodded. "I will send Void a message. And that's totally fine! Children are wonderful no matter how uncommon their physical form might be. I'm sure everyone will love them!"

 

"Now, my little darling we'll wait here until Moss comes by to collect you! I can make you a bow. Would you like a bow?"
Ivy is still talking in a cooing sing song and petting the little blob of nothingness. It feels rather weird, fuzzy and furry but also like nothing at all.

 

Oh there's more scritches. And nice sounds.

Names. The voice near... the bit of you in the basket asked that and so you try to say with just that particular piece "What's a name?"

You keep purring.

 

Cody makes a delighted cooing chirp. "Oh you can talk already! What smart little kittens you are! A name is a sound that means you. My name is Cody. That there is Kay."

 

"Hello adorable piece of the universe!" Kay waves enthusiastically.

 

You consider.

"We are not certain"
