you know what i am so terribly terribly tired of seeing in fic?? literally any fabric. especially like. pillows and shit on recharge slabs. ALL OF THEIR FURNITURE IS METAL!!!! they are MACHINES!!! bedsheets will do them literally no good at all. robots don't need squishy sofas. blankets sound like a fantastic way to fuck up their cooling systems. let the robots be robots. old man yells at cloud.jpg (my suspension of disbelief picks the strangest things to draw the line at)
oh yeah that's not the thing i take issue with, it's just like when the author goes out of their way to describe how soft and squishy a surface is, like. silky and plush and whatever and it's like, why would that be appealing to a mechanical being?? why would they have bedsheets and pillows.
Haha, actually that's half of what made me throw my hands up in frustration at kink bingo last night. I'm going through this pile of things I need to hit to complete the list and it's like oh, dressup-- okay, that'll be a little tricky, but I can still work it out with robots, it's cool. Crossdressing? Augh, how on earth am I supposed to handle that? Shit, shit, don't panic, keep reading, work it out later. It's okay, just keep moving. Leather/latex/rubber? Silk/velvet/feather/furs? Fuck this noise right in the ear, I have standards for my robot porn, goddammit (with the caveat that I enjoy fabric and such in art, or as a minor part of a story, but trying to get my mind around me writing it as the central aspect of a fic is hitting me right in the artistic integrity button I didn't realize I had)
I figure they might like blankets and pillows for some of the same reason. Blankets (in this case made of mesh/woven wire unless it's on earth or G1 proper where whatever the hell let them have a tarp) for comfort, pillows because eh it's nice. Bedsheets I can't see, but I can see some mechs liking extra cushioning on their berths etc. You might see more of liking woven wire from mechs that before the war maybe had contact with organics during the expansion or from upper class mechs but it's expensive and really not necessary (I can see this being Starscream's obsession with capes) or from mechs that spent a while on earth and decided to try out some of these human things on their own scale. (not criticizing you, more headcanoning out loud sorta thing)
i just can't help but think of like. you know when you put your laptop on your bed and it starts overheating? thats what i think of whenever an author describes soft squishy couches and blankets and pillows. overheating robots. i cannot escape this thought

I really enjoyed writing that one! If I ever clear my backlog of things-to-do, and I actually write the Getaway fic longer and awfuller, I want to tread similar territory with a sequel Cygate story. But since I already have the outline for the other version I want to do, I was trying to figure out how to differentiate this one, and accidentally fell into plug and play territory, and I loved it. I want to explore that in more ways, for sure. And as I'm getting Cyclonus and Tailgate into my fingers, I'm feeling so much more comfortable with them, so I'm hoping there will be more, longer stories with them in the future!
Spoiler: 51 I'm just glad someone showed up in time to help Ten. I was so distraught for a minute there. I was like yyyyes, Ravage, that was a smart way to protect yourself, but what a motherfucking dick move. I was really, really worried for Ten for a few pages there.
