No seriously I'm not joking I was talking about this on skype and just. Sorry I needed the gems as Alchemists and people who can come up with ideas. Also I wanna draw stuff so feel free to like. Idk. Suggest. I just think there needs to be more FMA aus in general.

    So.

What do you think characters from SU would be like in the FMA-universe?

i have never gotten around to watching FMA--i desperately wanted to as a kid because my cousin's DVD of it looked awesome, but she took it with her when she moved--but i am interested in seeing people's interpretations of this :D (my main knowledge of it thus far amounts to 'short amputee brother and giant suit of armor brother are looking for a way to get their bodies back, the seven deadly sins are there and i wanted to touch lust's hair')

    NICE

(sudden thought: steven's gem is the philosopher's stone, hence the healing powers and everyone wanting to carve it out of him)

(i have literally no idea how well or poorly this would actually fit especially if everyone is Presumably Human in this au but)

(that would be fucked up and I'd have to Think About It)

currently my thoughts are that garnet and pearl are probably veterans of the Ishvalan war? Not entirely sure, but it'd make sense. They're both decently powerful alchemists. I can only imagine them and Rose going rogue during the war because they DO NOT APPROVE of what the government is doing.

Hmm. I will have more thoughts on this soon I'm sure.

    Okay so.

Lapis is obviously someone who either did human transmution or witnessed it, based on her ability to manipulate water. Alternatively, tattoos but. Hm. I like the idea of Lapis being involved in human experiments, and glimpsing the Truth via that, hence her control over water vapor.

Garnet, Rose, and Pearl being Ishvalan War vets, with maybe Sapphire and Ruby being Garnet's parents? Sapphire as an Amestrian alchemist and Ruby being an Ishvalan maybe? Killed in the war probably. Sapphire might also have seen Truth and lost her eyes as payment. Hm.

Jasper is also a vet, but unlike Rose/Pearl/Garnet, never defected. Probably a bit more equivalent to Kimblee or Armstrong, depending on how you ran with her trauma.

Peridot is an Up And Coming State Alchemist, pulled into the Deep Shit by virtue of her genius with manipulating circles. Probably is fantastic at swift and direct circles, specializes in metals and magnetism, less focus on the physical aspect of alchemy and more the theoretical aspects and manipulation of forces. Would the cluster be equivalent to the Homunculi and Father's ultimate end game with massive human transmution circle? Either way, she defects when the truth of what she's working on is presented.

(I wonder if fusion could be projected out to a voluntary form of chimeraism? Or would it just be combining circles when setting up strategy and attacks?)

Steven as a Philospher's Stone and Rose's last, successful experiment would be cool. Especially if all the gems are alchemists, all the humans are not, and Steven is something in between. Greg would have no idea that Steven was more than just an alchemist, though I imagine Steven working without circles would come as a surprise. Garnet and Pearl have suspicions, but aren't sure. Can't prove it. Rose played the long game, and knew the Ishvalan War was only the beginning. Not a Homunculous, despite the Diamonds' suspicions, because it's inconceivable that Rose would succeed where they have repeatedly failed.

Amethyst is an Ishvalan refugee. Adopted by Rose early in the war maybe? Can't remember her family? Fantastic at organic transmutions and good at transmuting her clothes and things to change her shape.

(Actually, Japser is totally Kimblee to Garnet's Armstrong.)

Pearl would specialize in highly complex geometric forms. Elegant transmution, with a weaponized edge. Amethyst is quicker but sloppier. Garnet is brutal, fast and strong-- no wasted energy or motion.

    HMMMMM

yaasss i like this and count this as a second like.

i love the idea of lapis either witnessing or being a part of a human transmutation, it makes sense with the water vapor thing. (doesn't preclude tattoos so that she can sort of blend. if you've got a circle tattooed on you, no one may notice you're not actually using it)

just yes good shit this is what i'm talkin about

Yeah, that's part of why I really like her as potentially a participant and/or an experiment. It fits with her mirror thing? Someone in the military assuming she's with the resistance despite her desperate claims that she's not, forces her into the human transmution experiments, loses her when the prison gets broken into for one reason or another. It would be cool for like a confrontation because if she's got tattoos (prior to witnessing the Truth maybe?) people would be expecting certain things. Maybe tattoos mostly focused on solidifying water into ice, despite that not being one of her SU powers?

So when she picks up the fucking ocean or whatever it's a complete shock. And you find out she never needed the tattoos in the first place, because she stopped being fully human long ago.

Fuuuuuuck yeah that's good shit. It makes a lot of sense and does mirror her time in the mirror. lmao. Her being involved in the experiments/being a participant would also leave her with a lot of fucking psychological scars

Also malachite i believe totally used ice, which makes me think it probably wouldn't be that far fetched for Lapis in this AU to use it i think

god just picking up the ocean like that would be fucking insane and i love it so much

Which is also why I like things like Pearl and Garnet and Amethyst probably using their weapons as focii. Garnet probably has circles branded into her gaunlets, and Pearl's swords and javelins are elegantly carved with transmution circles of a variety of types. Pearl can carve circles into the ground as she goes, while Garnet works with punching for the most part, but has general enough circles that she can utilize most building materials.

Amethyst probable has tattoos? Really basic ones corresponding to certain alchemical elements. She uses her whip to make the circle itself, and activates different tattoos at will. It makes her control over her own shape massively variable, but doesn't have the power of the other two. Probably specialized in organic matter because Rose was the Rose Alchemist (renowned for her Wall of Thorns during the Ishvalan campaign, before and after defection; both a shield for her soldiers and a weapons against those who would hurt them) and Amethyst looked up to her.

Jasper's helmet probably has circles carved on it. She specializes in mostly metal and stone, making defenses and relying on her own strength to fight people. It backfires massively in a fight against Garnet, because Garnet's whole alchemical thing is taking the walls other people build and tearing them down.

Garnet's specialty is partly influenced because of Sapphire's vague knowledge of the Truth, partly from Ruby's fiery temper and desire to make Sapphire see herself was worth something, and partly out of the knowledge that some barriers must be destroyed. Things that would stop people from loving each other. Things stopping people from talking to each other. Garnet was born to tear down all the Amestrian walls that were put up to keep her down. Garnet is everything that the Ishvalan War said couldn't exist, because she is made of love and the sort of love that dictators can't control.

I imagine that Rose led the remaining Crystal Gems to somewhere off in the countryside, where she met Greg. I'm guessing that the Amestrian weapon of war that ended their rebellion was something of Diamond design. Maybe the same thing they were using Lapis to experiment on? HMM.

(Peridot's limb enhancers actually being automail tho. Connie and Greg both being automail mechanics? And maybe after Amethyst destroyed Peridot's limb enhancers, it was Steven teaching her how to remember the world w/o them while Greg and Connie worked together on the new set. Peridot carving her circles into her limbs maybe?)

WAIT FUCK WHAT IF GARNET WITH AUTOMAIL ARMS WITH CIRCLES ENGRAVED RATHER THAN JUST GAUNTLETS

Connies parents still want her to be a doctor, either because they are Ishvalan and want her to continue breaking down that hatred with her mom, or because they're close to Ishvalan and want her to defy stereotypes. Connie decides to be an automail engineer and it NEVER STOPS PISSING HER MOM OFF.

Greg and Rose are Amestrian. Pearl is from Xing, lower classes, part of why she thinks she isn't worth anything. Garnet is Ishvalan, as is Ruby. Lapis is... Amestrian or from Xing? I want Peridot to be from Xing too, an immgrant trying to prove herself. Jasper is Amestrain, probably. Amethyst is p Rose robably mixed like Garnet, but takes a little more after her Amerstrian parent, despite her being discovered in Ishval.

Actually. Hm. Okay, I know Xing and Ishval, but I can't remember the other countries? But since Greg/Steven are canonically Jewish in SU-verse, I wonder if Ishvalan descent might not be better for them as a persecute religious minority? But it wouldn't be close I don't imagine.

Garnet isn't a State Alchemist, nor is Pearl, but Rose was before she had her rank stripped. So was Sapphire, though she'd been having an illicit affair with Ruby well before the tensions in Ishval exploded. Peridot is a State Alchemist, as is Jasper. Lapis isn't. The Rubies probably aren't. (Rubies as human experiments? Eyepatch remembering the Ishvalan War? Maybe a bit like the chimeras that Greed took in. Corrupted Gems as human experiments?) Steven isn't, in part because Pearl, Amethyst and Garnet are very firm about him not being one. If anyone's going to throw themselves on that landmine, Pearl would probably be competing with Amethyst for the possibility, but Steven is more intuitive then he his book learning, so it isn't an issue for him. Maybe Pearl misses the massive libraries. She wasn't a State Alchemist, but she was probably a research assistant that got coopted by Rose, and mourns the loss of her ability to access all that research.

I imagine the SU crew is a lot less tied in with the military in general. Not so much tearing things down from inside as they are trying to use guerilla tactics. Also Steven tries to heal all the chimeras he comes across.

in canon there's Drachma, Xing, Aerugo, Creta, and Riviere? But not a lot is known about Drachma, Aerugo, Creta, and Riviere, because they're not the main focus of the series.

GOD THAT LOOKS SO GOOD (EVERYTHING YOU'VE DRAWN LOOKS SO GOOD)

I think Drachma is the only one I've really remembered referenced in canon, but like you said they're so nonessential to the plot that they might as well not exist. Hm.

  18. Void

    Void on discord. Void#4020

Yeah. Drachma is the one out of those who has the most development but even then it's very minimal. Mostly because it's the country North Of Briggs, and therefore why the wall is there. Ishval, Xing, Xerxes, and Amestris are the only ones who get any real development. And Xerxes and Ishval are destroyed. (Xerxes is LOOOOONG destroyed too. And has some minimal development. Seriously minimal. AUGH I WANNA KNOW SO MUCH MORE ABOUT THE COUNTRIES IN THIS WORLD)

I guess that also means it leaves it up to interpretation and headcanon in that regard.

Also thank youuuu I'm having fun doodling.
