What are your fan fiction gripes?

Apology fics. I mean, I get wanting to see the way characters have treated each other addressed and all, but in practice it's all just... excessive groveling followed immediately by the saintly forgiveness of the wronged character (or "wronged", since a lot of these are about things that were, in context, fairly reasonable behavior) who incidentally is usually an agency-free cipher. Where's the drama? Where's the people who aren't comfortable with the words and try to apologize in the Language of Casseroles or its equivalent? Where's the hot mess of a character I know and love?

 

I have recently seen a "[character] goes off their meds and their genocidal alternate personality takes over" fic. Why.

I doubt it, it was tagged "Multiple personality disorder" () and was a Voltron fic.

 

Okay, I misremembered, it was "Dissociative Identity Disorder", which is... IDK, it is the more modern terminology, but that's not at all an accurate portrayal of it anyway.
And the fic's called fucking Genocidio

 

Am wondering if this fic is perhaps inspired by Dangan Ronpa? Either way it sounds shitty.

 

As far as I could read it (... One chapter), it kept referring to "DID meds". No. Just no.

 

ao3 drafts are deleted after a month so if you had a lot of tags and didnt want to have to retype them when youre done with the fic it makes sense?

How long has that been happening? to be fair, my memory for these things are pretty terrible, but I'm pretty sure I had drafts saved for a lot longer than a month when I was rolling out one of my fics. It must have been longer because I kept forgetting to do it on time.

One of the fics in the tag is a Hetalia fic, part of a series called "KIN SHIT". I'm... Kinda scared.

 

i thiiiiink if you make edits to the draft and save it it resets the timer without having to publish anything. it's been a while since i've played with that though.

the month time limit is def a thing though i have lost carefully entaggened placeholders that way

 

Kid fics. Bad kid fics where the writer does not know how adoption/fostercare works. Kid fics where the writer does not know how to kid, and couldn't be bothered to grab some articles/books on child development. Twee and cutesy kid fics.

Good kid fics when you can find them however, are gold.
