A place to complain about all things tooth and gum. Or just talk about them, but my feeling is most people will want to complain, or vent their shrieking dental anxiety like I do.

Just went to the dentist for the first time in a few years. Six cavities, a few more not-quite-cavities, gingivitis, and a $1200 price tag to fix all of it. Insurance paid for $1000+ already, so at least it's not a $2000+ price tag, and I can fortunately afford a payment plan.

The good news is: nothing is wrong with my implants or veneers! The notion of that was giving me nightmares.

I only had two cavities so a bit of a lower price tag, but: same hat! :P I am whiny right now because I'm still waiting for novocaine to wear off but I Hunger.

I hate dentists, I have very crooked and ugly teeth, and I missed my last cleaning/checkup and haven't made a new one. THEN I was in the hospital and drinking 3x sugary nutrition supplement shakes a day PLUS dry mouth from steroids! Now I've been on a steroid taper for over a month and guess what that does: makes your body less able to absorb calcium! My teeth are so sensitive right now, breathing in the cold winter air is painful.

Needless to say, I am fucking worried about my teeth.

i finally got on insurance and will have 50% of the expensive work covered for once, but we're trying to find an office that will let me do payment plan for the remaining bill. ...nnnnot looking forward to getting the work done, as I'm potentially going to be facing a -lot- of removals, they're all fallin' apart. :< dental anxiety like whoa, the pain is unbearable when it's on but HOO BOY.

Im actually weird because i love the dentist but that doesnt make hearing " we're not very good at this particular surgery here" any more comforting right before getting all your wisdom teeth out

    hugs for everyone >:

I had braces for 6ish years and my orthodontist was an asshole and all of his assistants were either mean or indifferent. My dentist when I growing up was very nice and caring, I had anxiety about it anyway because I was terrible at taking care of myself. The orthodontist made it so much worse. Seriously, if I ever run into him again I am gonna ask him what the fuck is wrong with him to make him think being that rude to a 15 year old is okay.

The good news is that dealing with my mental health for a while has alleviated a lot of my dental anxiety. Today wasn't fun exactly, but I didn't feel like I was gonna dissociate!! So, generally a success. :3

i had to get surgery to pull my molars up (they were being blocked by my other teeth) and super close to the end of it surgeon went like 8|............ "so i may have done the wrong teeth"

turns out he did the right ones, which was a relief, it's just from first glace it looked wrong because i have weird teeth

on the one hand I guess it makes sense that fillings would need time to heal? That sure is a bit of... something I probably should have asked the composition of... trying to solidify and attach properly, even ignoring that the scaling probably made everything hella sensitive
But on the other, some part of my brain is still going why??? is this sore??? the fuck is this?? we fixed it it should be fine????

anyone have any info on what to expect if I lose A Lot of teeth suddenly to the tune of getting falsies? bc odds are that's happening eventually, is a consistent terrified fear of mine even if it's unfounded bc this isn't the dang stone age and you can't even really tell who has them anymore or not, and hearing positive things/realistic things re: emotional feelings and also physical feelings about the experience from people who aren't in their 40's+ is potentially soothing. things aren't as scary if i know how to logic my way around and through them.

I have two friends who have gotten the "Fuck it! Pull 'em all!" treatment.

If I didn't know they had the work done, I would never know. They do a good job of making dentures now that are a natural white color so they don't like like porcelain tiles in your mouth. And they've done something with the way they fit and attach so they don't make weird sounds, either.

Both my friends report that the amazing thing is that the continuous low level pain from shitty teeth is gone and they feel a lot better.

    i think its just the medicated stuff. certain brands taste like gross to me, but some are p tasty/refreshing :o my experiences with medicated mouthwash are... unpleasant memories =n=;

My mouthwash after wisdom teeth removal was pretty neutral, if I remember right. Not as "good" as regular mouthwash but not terrible. I had chlorhexidine mouthwash, I think.

same hat re: appointment get. we're still waiting for finding dentist who would be chill with payment plans for remaining fees. i am.... kind of rlly rlly intimidated, mine grew in sideways

Mine haven't erupted yet but they're about to. Like, my gums in the back there are so swollen it hurts to yawn

Ye, chlorhexidine's what I'm stuck with. Maybe it'll stop bothering me if I take it when I'm not already overloaded but. Blegh. 1 dose down, 27 to go...

Eta: my wisdom teeth are actually impacted, only one actually erupted even a little. Looking back I'm pretty sure I know when that was, but... chalk another one up to "brainbugs make everything harder" and "Issues with asking for attention" :T

Eta2: okay the chlorhexidine is mildly less Liquid Death now. Dunno if it was overload playing merry hell with me or a weird interaction with lingering novocaine last night, but I will gladly take "tastes like ass" over "should I even go to bed I swear I'm gonna puke if I move"!

So on the one hand I love the anesthesiologist I had today, she was much better than last time's, she explained side effects and how long the drug should last Just In Case and also made sure I really absolutely couldn't feel anything before she let the hygienist get started
On the other hand holy shit I am so stoned on novocaine rn, these are not my legs and I am surprised I made it down the stairs alive, I am gonna sit in my car for a bit and wait til I'm not jittery before I drive home
Autocorrect count on this post: literally every other word, I love technology
