'cause, well, there's lots of worldbuilding stuff that's been already established on the original thread already and yeah... i think it was mentioned in there that this would be a thread collecting that stuff, as well as establishing new stuff. so is there, like, a format or anything? any criteria?

The criteria is that it is
a) already an established world that you're just re-adding to the list, or
b) an original idea for another space colony.

This is mostly a cleanup thread for those who don't want to slog through the entire 53 page Kintsugi in Space thread.

I attempted to find as much of the worldbuilding myself and others came up with as possible. If you think something else deserves mentioning in the Consolidated Worldbuilding Thread, feel free to tell me about it, and I'll insert it here.

I aimed more for stuff about the world and backstory of the Kintsystem, because character stuff can be found in the Profiles Thread.

Speculative Notes about Kintsugian planets:

The Moon of Kintsugi (that is, the moon upon which space Kintsugi is set) has a single small moon and a close association with a number of the other moons of the gas giant it orbits. I kinda want to start talking about orbital resonances here, but let's say that Kintpiter (the gas giant, someone think of a better name) is several times larger than Jupiter (as is usual, Jupiter's pretty small), probably pushing its size into the Brown Dwarf range. It'd probably be magenta-ish in colour (as is typical for brown dwarfs), and be many, many times bigger than the moon is in Earth's sky.

The problem with having such a massive planet so close is the IO problem, and we'd have some pretty impressively horrendous tides, and maybe some nasty radiation. With luck, an atmosphere with some sort of ozone layer and magnetosphere would block the worst of that kind of thing, and normal squishy human life would be sustainable on the surface.

At some point in the distant past, some manner of advanced extraterrestrial civilisation colonised the Kintsystem, and laid down all manner of scary huge artificial things all over. Space stations large enough to contain skies full of roiling clouds, gigantic geometric etchings into the surfaces of some of the planets, marvels of ancient magic and science driven by gigantic, spider web-like dark energy collectors on the cold fringes of the system.

In time, though, even the greatest empires must fall. The great works were abandoned, and in time the last of the self-repairing systems fell into dormancy, waiting for the return of long-dead masters, and the Kintsystem kept on turning through the rest of galactic history until some pioneers came. They trod on the surfaces of long-abandoned moons, saw the ruined cities caked in the dust of ages, the ancient empty space stations, the non-functional stargates from before the dawn of modern galactic civilisation. Building a home for themselves in the derelict systems of a civilisation so old, the legends had faded. An abandoned system, full of broken artifice and dust, shattered million-acre fields of identical black monoliths, overgrown space habitats full of twelve million years of life evolved in zero gravity, slowly shifting lakes of antique nanomachines, eagerly devouring anything in their path.

The main settlement is on one of the larger moons of a gas giant orbiting a binary star. According to some of the residents, the nature of the "binary system" is somewhat hilarious. There are five other planets in the system, and a large number of mo0ns, dotted all over with the workings of the predecessors.

They named it Kintsugi, because it was broken once, and it is the act of being repaired that makes it beautiful.

I love astronomy but I am not so well-versed in the Actual Science, so I dunno if that's helpful or not! Perhaps the ancient civilisation was annihilated somehow, in a way that totally wrecked the environment? Perhaps the seas have frozen? (also I adore your note about the 'exact nature' of the binary system. XD)

And, if you look hard enough, in the right places, ten million or so years is long enough to evolve sentience, back from losing it at the end of the last civilisation as the tools of the masters went feral. The Whispering Grove, a collection of glittering metal trees to the north of the mostly-barren Kintsugi-γ, rustles slowly when people approach it, and seems to be capable of broadcasting and receiving shortwave radio signals, which the sessile trees seem to use to communicate with each other.

There's a singular, giant entity, within the hollow planet Kintsugi-ε, a gigantic, seemingly endless worm that slowly and inexorably slides through the deep caves. No-one has ever found its head, and judging by gravity scans of Kintsugi-ε, the worm, affectionately nicknamed Jörmungandr, is approximately the mass of a continent, and has likely been moving through that planet for tens of millions of years for some unknown purpose, likely lost with its builders.

The naturalists among the Modern Kintsugians have been making amusingly shrill, excited, noises about the spaceborne habitat dubbed "Big Dumb Object", a Charon-sized space station orbiting Plenet (Kintsugi-ζ, or Kintpiter), full of the fruits of megadecades of weightless evolution, something nearly impossible to find elsewhere in the galaxy. The thick atmosphere, and some manner of ancient alien gravity generator within the Big Dumb Object negate the effects of gravity within the station, and a massive jungle in permanent freefall occupies the free space in the station, occasionally anchored to struts that are as wide round as cities that hold the station's form together. Zero-gee evolution has resulted in some truly unique creatures, from jet-propelled creatures the size of cars, to massive grazing creatures that dwell in the open sky between the floating forests, eating from the haze of airborne plankton like enormous whales, bioluminescent patterns flickering along their sides, a means of communication between the remarkably intelligent animals. The soft light of an unfeasibly small contained star, likely linked to the gravity generators that have somehow survived the tens of millions of years, illuminates this cloud and sky-filled ocean.

And yet, there are other worlds in the Kintsugi system, worlds that have yet to be fully explored, and have yet to reveal even the slightest of their wonders.

α and β are the binary suns of the Kintsugi System.

γ is mostly barren, the solar and possibly intelligent trees scattered over its surface in thickets. Kinda warm.

δ is a small planet, somewhere between the sizes of Mercury and Venus, bonded to its tidally-locked moon by a space elevator the size of a continent, a massive and terrific feat of space engineering that has somehow lasted the ages.

ε has a far lower mass than its size and surface composition would indicate, and there is some biomechanical life on its surface, but the main attraction is the gigantic worm that slowly moves through the deeps below its surface in the hollow heart of the planet.

ζ is a gas giant many times the mass of Jupiter, a gigantic magenta orb hanging in the skies above the settlement of Kintsugi. Its many moons take advantage of the ideal temperatures for liquid water to form to bear much carbon-based life, but at least one of the moons is an ancient artefact that weighs more than the Pacific tectonic plate, and that Kintsugijin have affectionally nicknamed "the Big Dumb Object".

η is a colder world, thickly forested, and occupied by cold-adapted robotic creatures that live in the permafrost, along with some unknown creatures that live in the warmer waters under the frozen oceans.

θ is an ice giant, much like Neptune or Uranus, with an ammonia-saturated atmosphere in which live many strange creatures that never touch ground for their entire lives, with unfamiliar carbon-based biology that uses ammonia as a solvent. Also, pretty rings!

There are other things out there in the Kintsystem, were one to look for them, and the explanation I have given is by no means comprehensive, so go wild with your own ideas!

The Greek letters are a placeholder, so their "common names" can be whatever anyone wants. We have ζ - Plenet, ε - Midgard, and so on.

I'd suppose on the whole Magic/Sufficiently Advanced Technology issue, that in this 'verse magic and technology coexist in a way that works differently depending on the civilisation. So the Ancient Aliens who built their empire through the Kintsystem grew their magic and technology together in some sort of complicated and now-lost art, but the current galactic civilisation still has a job for anything from hat-wearing wizards to technologically-minded mages building enchanted computers. Some of the races in the Galactic Coalition habitually use spaceships driven by alchemic fire or, at the more absurd end, build their starships upon the backs of aetheric dragons.

Humanity, while they aren't exactly newcomers to the galactic scene, are still fairly new to the whole "we now live in space" game, and the Kintsystem is on the outer fringes of the Terran Extrasolar Protectorate, and while the Kintsystem is of possible immense value to the Protectorate, an arcane system of defenses out in the system's Oort Cloud prevent all but the smallest of ships from slipping through, along with a malfunctioning Transport Gate that some suspect is some sort of prototype left by the predecessors, used later by another old civilisation to build the various Transport Gates scattered through the known galaxy.

Humans are known for being tenacious, daring and for becoming big names on the galactic scene not long out of their species's spacefaring infancy. The Protectorate tend to use the more mundane science to run their worlds, rather than the more esoteric and unpredictable magic available to them. There are probably various mildly transhuman subspecies of humanity, along with possibly some other species uplifted by humans for the purposes of having more friends to play with.

I suppose we'd also want a reasonably-humanoid (maybe more arms?) race of creatures that use magitek to run giant spaceships made of trees or something (oh hey, maybe Void could be some Space Elf Equivalent. That seems fairly amusing, giant teddybear monster "space elves")

There's whatever anons and/or snitchanon are, some sort of tentacled thingies. Snitch, at least, is around the size of a small truck when coiled up, possibly larger and more individualistic than the typical Anon.

There seem to be various kinds of "demon", from burning creatures that maybe typically dwell on the surfaces of stars, to some other types of creature.

Feel free to write up a short treatise on what your 'sona's species is. I kinda wrote in a loophole for your cat-eared people and the like for being some modified version of humanity, but I don't think we're going for hard sci-fi here.

But, yeah, started out as human, went through collegiate process, and during the course of mechanobiopsychology, eventually figured that constantly upgrading for each course cost way more money & stress trying to keep bone & tissue functioning. Built an android, downloaded into android, graduated.

of course, since Moss is an android, this means they sometimes react weirdly to stressful and emotional situations because sometimes the mirror neuron imitation circuits malfunction when amped up.

Oh well I'm here now and having caught up on eight pages would like an excuse to ramble about my kintsona

Mirrors is probably human. Or at least they started out human, almost certainly, probably. Somewhere along the line they discovered they had an affinity for mirror magic, and started fucking around with it without really knowing what they were doing. This caused a few things about them to get a bit funny- the panther ears & tail being the most obvious thing, also their eyes are both catlike and far too reflective, in that while it's perfectly normal to see your reflection in other people's eyes, if you look into Mirrors' for too long you can't see anything but yourself, and not just your outward appearance either.
This is not the whole reason they don't make eye contact but it doesn't help. People sort of tend to get unnerved by seeing reflections of their inner nature in someone else's eyes, after all. It's probably lucky kintsugi has a large population of non-eye-contact-making autie folk.
On the whole though they look mostly human, and their dress-sense is camo pants or jeans, boots and BRIGHT GREEN HOODIE. Except if it's hot out, in which case a variety of stupid slogan/picture t-shirts will be worn instead.
Despite this, they are surprisingly willing to be used as a living dressmaker's dummy and/or dressed up for exciting occasions, provided nobody expects them to start wearing fancy shit all the time.
They're perfectly okay with tech and will integrate it into their powers but they're far better at magic. They get mirrors. No, they grok mirrors. Every reflective surface that can provide a recognisable reflection of the outside world can be included in their mental map, and they know exactly which mirror is where, even if it's moving around, so they can see through any one they please and connect other people to them so the other people can see through them as well. They can't really say how, the best they can manage is 'they all taste different'.
They can also move through them, and yes they can pop their entire body out of your pocket mirror if they need to, or your robot arm if it's shiny enough. After a few short, sharp lessons about boundaries, however, they only tend to do this with permission. Mostly. Unless it would be really funny.
They have a sense of humour a mile wide and are not above fucking with people for their own amusement, which is not ideal in someone running a colony's communication network but they're also not stupid and know this is a cushy as hell gig and a nice place full of nice people so they don't ever dick things about in a serious manner. I imagine there are codewords and suchlike to use when placing calls to signify 'Mirrors, do not even think about doing anything, this is important/urgent/a matter of life and death'.
Mostly their unhelpful streak is channelled into fucking with the Tumblr folks who try and get in contact. They love those games so much.
They are extremely proficient with the longsword, and the communications and surveillance systems are sufficiently automated that with a few tweaks and a body to sit in front of it it can be left alone, so occasionally they'll join in a defence squad or go on an adventure, though they don't like being away from their control room for too long in case something happens and they miss it.
The range of their mirror control extends over the entire colony and a ways outside of it (enough to encompass any satellites located immediately above the colony) without effort, over the entire moon with some effort, and can go out into space, only they need to concentrate extremely hard and it's rather tiring. This makes mirrors great short- and medium-range communication tools but not great for taking on missions to other moons/planets. They are slightly sulky about this and insist on being in charge of any other communication devices used to communicate with the colony if they're going along on an adventure.
They only tend to steal food, their favourites being lollipops and cookies, though only if they can pinch the cookies without being seen. It's a game. They like games.

SS can usually be found wandering around the network of underground tunnels which cover a large part of Kintsugi. "SS," people say, "we are very nearly almost completely positive that those tunnels are an ancient sewer system. They are certainly extremely unsanitary and filled with horrifying space bacteria, also probably space crocodiles. Please do not wander through the sewers."
Does SS listen? Shit no, SS has never listened to anything and isn't about to start now. SS likes the sewers, which are filled with exciting places to explore and exciting echoey noises and exciting alien machinery. Also, the sewerdwelling space crocodiles are delicious.
(SS is developing quite a hoard of broken alien machinery. Whenever SS manages to find enough matching parts to have a piece of working alien machinery, SS takes it out of the sewers to show it to people and babble semi-coherently.)
SS spends time painting beautiful murals on the sewer walls. SS' concept of "beautiful" being somewhat uh, the murals depict anything from underwater scenes to spaceships in orbit to disembowelled corpses.
SS is super great at sewer exploration! SS can fit into quite improbably small spaces. Whether this is due to sizeshifting magic, spacewarping technology, or sheer determination is unknown at this point. SS is very good at climbing things and carries many useful objects in bags and pockets.

Also, SS is generally willing to give rides to people who are short, slow, tired, or just think it would be really rad to get wherever they want to go via dinosaurback.

I wonder how big the Kintsugi colony is, and how the air is kept in (the relevant moon is, in general, airless). It could be a series of actual domes with airlocks, or some manner of giant "well, we awakened the old technology and it gave us a massive bubble to keep air in" kind of thing.

Maybe both, in case one measure fails. The exact nature of the Great Wall of Nope is, thus far, undetermined. Someone, or several someones jury-rigged a way to refuel and mystically enhance an alien device embedded in the crust of the planet, and it currently keeps the micrometeoroids and ravening hordes out, while the scarily functional planetary defenses left by the predecessors do the rest.

The main defensibility of the Kintsugi system is the "horrifying technomagic that should be dead by now but isn't", which prevents bringing in proper capital ships, or indeed anything capable of breaking through the secondary defenses, which are the citizens of Kintsugi and the Great Wall of Nope are capable of dealing with the smaller ships in lower numbers that potential enemies are capable of bringing in. It isn't fully impregnable, but it doesn't need to be to be economically disastrous to invade. Let them have their weird colony in the derelict system, and maybe buy the relics of the archaic galactic civilisation from them rather than attempting to claim it from them.

Either way, I don't think there'd be enough atmosphere for the sky to look anything other than starry.

I mean, seriously, Snitch has no idea where they came from. They were found hibernating in the tunnels deep under where the settlement was built, and they claim their earliest memories are of roaming the surface of the lunar Kintsugian landscape, likely thousands of years ago. They appear to know a large and very variable amount of information about the original structures of the Kintsystem, but they can't possibly be that old, can they?

Historians are fairly sure that, since the alien empire that fused δ with its moon, there have been three more ancient, unknown, civilisations passing through the system every several million years, and the archeologists of Kintsugi are working on some more accurate numbers. Most of their works have managed to be outlasted by the seemingly impossibly sturdy works of the first builders, which still stand sentinel over the dust-shrouded plains of the moons. Beneath the soil of the jungle moon of Plenet lie massive, fractalline ridged structures, visible only through deep scans, that seem to spell out some sort of preposterously oversized map of the entire galaxy.

So Ivy is what humans dubbed a 'Fae'. Since the fae's language never had a word for 'us-sentient-beings' as opposed to 'generally-sentient-beings' the Fae stole the word, what with entering into the fun part of deep space travel shortly after the human race.
Fae are generally group oriented in their identity but bad at stuff like nationalism and individualism. Like they get the CONCEPT of national identity and us-vs-them thinking they just have like zero sense of boundary about joining groups and identifying by group affiliation without the rivalry parts. Like imagine a pirate war in space and one of the crews had one or more fae? Those fae might get captured, then identify as crew members of both their original ship and the ship that captured them and suddenly attempt to reconcile the crews and make them ONE BIG CREW. Fae are kinda big on harmony and getting along.
They don't really have gender as older fae return to their homeworld and undergo a process of morphing into a tree-like-immobile shape that is the reproductively mature form of the species. The reproductively immature Fae form close social bonds with one or several others, called Clusters, that will usually become Groves upon maturity, aka poly tree reproductive tangle thing.
Thing is, Fae society doesn't really distinguish between different sentient species so it's perfectly a ok to have non-fae in your clusters even though they are (usually) very impractical to incorporate in a grove. Good thing that fae have an estimated infancy and adolescence phase of 200 standard space time years (coincidentally (lawl) being exactly equal to earth years because fuck maths)
Ivy came to Kintsugi because coincidence and stayed because Kite was there and CLUSTERS HAVE TO STICK TOGETHER! also Kintsugi is a nice group to be affiliated with. And they need someone to sew and mend clothes for them!!!
(Also if you want someone very cuddly and kind of clumsy and tiny to be a romantic-platonic super close buddy, Ivy!Kintsugi is pretty unanxious about romance stuff (unlike me hurr) so the Cluster around them can be pretty sprawling probably)

Sure, following the second arcane renaissance, it's quite common to find mages on starships, although it's @Void 's people who actually run their spaceships on magic and fancy trees and whatever elves use. Probably some granola in there too.

I'd guess humans would have come to magic and science as mostly separate and not-quite-reconcilable things, but whatever the heck tore apart a star system to basically play silly buggers with a bunch of planets in various strange and impossible ways blended the scientific and the arcane in ways almost impossible to fathom.

Luckily they made their stuff more robust than most would believe possible, and made it fairly user-friendly for the sophonts arriving eons later to operate. They do occasionally ask Snitch why they know so much about the machines, because while @Lazarae is some descendant of a watchdog system or something, and you do occasionally find nonsentient versions of those wandering around, nothing like Snitch has been found at all, besides the vague galactic memory of the devouring hordes of Anons, and the strange small creatures that turned up during the podcast. What does this mean for Snitch, anons, and other creatures like them in general? Who even knows. Snitch is certainly keeping mum, and Anons in general are a little too incoherent and elusive to properly question.

One day, Kite went out from wherever it came from, and got lost in the Night Forest. The next time it came out of the Night Forest, it ended up in the great hub city of Qhor. Now, Qhor's attitude is "I'll take them all", so Kite was set up with a small flat in the labyrinthine wrinkles and corners of the city, and started interning under their head librarian. That's where the first jacks were installed in its skull.
At that point, Kite was still trying to figure out where its people were, and since not even Qhor's library or its masses of different races had a clue, it left again, and somehow ended up on a spaceship, where it worked as an assistant helmsman. That's where more of the jacks, and an additional horn happened.

Kite came to Kintsugi because it had heard whispers of a welcoming place, and because it had talked to seebs on occassion, and, when you're stuck in a strange place with no way back home, why not pick the part of the strange place that is welcoming?

Kite also has a weird key, large, old-fashioned, tarnished, that it knows has some sort of use and is connected to a place it knows, but it's not transdimensional, and so, of little use.

I am distracted by Worldbuilding June on my personal Tumblr, so I may be babbling less, but I was wondering about the landscape of Kintsugi.

It's a lunar landscape (because, after all, it is a moon), and a lunar landscape in the sense that it's like Luna, the Earth's moon, craters and such. Instead of Marias - the "seas" of the Moon we know, which were created by the upwelling of magma into the largest craters back when the moon was tectonically and volcanically active, the largest craters in the surface of Kintsugi uncover the smooth, ultrahard surface of a moon-wide surface left by the Kintsugi Builders, one textured with the occasional geometric city, a half-sunken one of which makes up a good deal of the new Kintsuigan settlement, and excavation is underway to hollow out some more of the buildings that are still buried.

The little town of Kintsugi is technically in a flat-bottomed crater, with shall0w-ish sides and about two-thirds of an ancient alien city sticking out of one of the hills, along with some actual buildings. Up on the surface, out of the crater, are the numerous bubbled farms that @jacktrash tends to, and beneath the surface are miles of tunnels tracing out a fractal pattern, complete with many cave-ins and dead ends suitable for the explorer with time and hopefully some sort of mapping system on their hands. The tunnels cover several levels, and span almost half a square mile, and there's a suggestion that they go even deeper into the moon, although many of the tunnels are choked with moonsand, moondust and other moon materials.

To get out of the crater, you can either climb up the sides (which are kinda Large Hill steep, if you want some low-grav, no-atmo hiking) or take the stairs some enterprising person cut into the lunar regolith. Some people are working on some shallower tunnels and/or an elevator. Requests for a catapult system have been shot down on the grounds that while gravity is lower than 1G, it's not quite low enough to make that landing safe. We know this. We have tested it on Snitch, and they bounced off one of the fields round the smaller craters with farms in, and had to be separated from the lunar lithosphere with a spatula and a pressure washer.

So, basically what you get is a central big, air-filled crater with Kintsugi at the bottom, and in a number of small nearby craters, a bunch of farms, each one in an air-field bubble. And even further out than that, the Great Wall of Nope, which is not suitable to keep air in (hence the smaller air fields) but is very suitable to keep enemies out through a combination of actual force and the Psychic Disapproval Field. Occasionally some bit of debris left behind by the ships that people use to get around hits the Wall, and is disintegrated in a shower of colourful sparks. Despite the general prettiness, it is NOT advised to ram the shield with anything. We need it to keep stuff out.

I dunno, but I suspect Kintsuigmoon is big enough to hold an atmosphere, and there are a couple of moons with life on orbiting Plenet as well. Terraforming seems like a reasonable deal, plus there's all this farming going on to see what the moondirt does well with and what plants work well with the minerals and stuff.

Eventually, someone will cave and we'll have a whip-round for some proper terraforming equipment, but for now we're in the "planning and research". Plus, there are some interesting atmospheric generating engines in the Big Dumb Object that might make the job much easier once reverse-engineered.

Atmospheric acquisition, however, is a bit more complicated. It's probably where the reverse-engineered atmosphere generators come in, unless we find some sort of "easy terraform kit" lying around.

As for water, I'm sure we could dump some comets into the atmosphere, which would serve the dual purpose of heating it up!

here's what i've been using so far in WTK land/making up as I go along:

if we assume one main dome, with the main 'city' in the centre, then to the east are fields and beyond that, open land (where there are archaeological digs and such before it is terraformed). the radio station is on the eastern edge of the city. i think south of the fields is where the orchards are.

there are subdivisions of the city - Kay lives in Somëta, which is the northwestern quadrant of the city, and which houses the city administrative buildings (including the forum for imported drama discussion and the top-secret unplottable safe house) and the colony council building (it's based off "That's So Meta" :P). there is a central plaza smack dab in the middle; the library is on the northern side of the plaza. there are the LARPing Boroughs in the northeastern quadrant (complete with open fields, an atrium of forest, and other recreational things like maybe pools?), and the new Fandom Subdivision (with several art galleries, poetry clubs, thrift shops/tailors, and vegan cafés) is east of that still. The Bloom Tea Shop is, I think, on the southern edge of the plaza. the southwestern quadrant is another quiet neighbourhood (haven't named it yet), but it has a 'safe' building where people needing advice/quiet time/stress relief can go (this one's based on the advice half of the forums). the southeastern quadrant is the general residential area, where most people live unless they have jobs in other bits of the city. it's very vibrant and has lots of character houses. most people built their own living space with the help of the robots.

okay, given that, here's some ideas to integrate the two:

we've bubbled the ancient ruins and most (?) of the crater, with pressurized tunnels (?) to get to the fields/orchards, which are to the east of the crater. the ancient city is in the southwestern edge of the crater. administrative buildings and colony council, having been set up early in the colony's development, are quite deep in the ancient city (we've also repurposed what looks like an amphitheatre for Drama, and there is a convenient bunker for secret discussions). the central plaza is part of the ancient city, but it is not central to the ancient city: the library is an ancient building, but Bloom Tea Shop is new, and we have started terraforming the LARPing boroughs and recreational areas to the east, as well as breaking ground on the new art galleries and such in the new fandom subdivision. that being said, the residential buildings, which have been added onto/repurposed as needed, form the southern half of the city.

shelves in the hallways don't make much sense unless you have a bad space problem - keeping temperature, humidity etc. stable when doors are constantly opened and closed and the space walked through is more difficult than if you just put them in separate rooms. that stuff is especially important with older stuff with acid in the pages, if you don't store that in a controlled environment it just deteriorates.
of course, libraries that are basically one big room exist. they are not very practical in quite a few ways, though.

I'm thinking that space!Scheherazade is the colony's doctor. She has ridiculously powerful healing magic, can get someone back to perfect physical health in under half a minute. Her power also works on the landscape, doing things like purifying tainted water or clearing up pollution. It works, if anything, even better on herself than it does on others, so she can tank just about anything by virtue of healing it instantaneously. Acts as a combat medic during incursions.

She lives in Kintsugi's church, a good-sized Gothic cathedral with... interesting architecture. For one thing, it's bigger on the inside, and the outside wasn't that small to begin with. The main room appears to be some sort of chapel, vaguely Catholic in style but with no actual religious markings. It doesn't appear to be dedicated to any one specific deity, although leading off from the main room are doors that will lead you to places of worship for any major religion you care to name and a few more obscure ones. The first door at the end of the chapel will lead you into Scheherazade's clinic, where she's available for help if you require it. Beyond that is a massive and ever-shifting maze of other extradimensional rooms, some of which even she isn't totally familiar with. But hey, it's home.

Appearance-wise, she looks like a young human woman with large, black feathery wings and very long hair. The hair is mobile, she uses it like tentacles. The sight of your primary physician flying after you, her hair waving three syringes and a scalpel at you, because you tried to skip out on your vaccinations... well, honestly she's pretty shy and unlikely to hurt anybody. But the just the sight of it is usually enough to keep people from trying to dodge their flu shots.

Its style of architecture doesn't match the whole "weird alien doowops" that most of the rest of the place is, and it's temple-like in a very human way, although there are shrines dedicated to basically any god you can think of, and some you can't. I've been trying to find a reference for it. I was thinking something like this(https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/...r_Chapel_view_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1630211.jpg), but without any specific Christian iconography, just generally Gothic architecture. Inside, it has about the right amount of rooms and space to match up with it's outside appearance, but an inordinate amount of doors, most of which lead to places that clearly couldn't fit in there, or just don't seem physically possible.

A small sign outside refers to it as the Temple of the Holy Gate.

Scheherazade has been putting small silver plaques on the doors to say where they lead, but she hasn't done all of them and her labelling system is somewhat eccentric. You've got relatively normal signs like "Laundry Room" and "Third Floor Toilet", others that are unusual but straightforward like "Inner Gardens" or "Reflecting Pool", and then there's ones that say things like "Emergency Clock Storage" or "Definitely Not Bees". Thankfully, all the ones that lead to places of worship are on the first floor, properly labeled, and easily accessible.

I imagine there's some odd things about the Temple, like architecture that doesn't quite look the same between any two people. I mean, it broadly looks "churchy" or "gothic" or "temple-y", but that's up to interpretation, it seems. The most extreme example is Snitch, who can't enter, and describes the Temple as a vast hemispherical featureless object. No-one knows what to think of this.

Its insides act similar to a religiously-themed Room of Requirements - if you go in, looking for somewhere to sit and think, a door you haven't seen before creaks open, and you find yourself on a balcony complete with reclining chairs, looking out onto a picturesque alien landscape that must be an illusion, right?
If you need someone to talk to, the Temple has a knack for directing people to cross paths, and some of the firmest friendships in Kintsugi have formed from a chance meeting, wandering the halls. People have described massive mechanical orchestras, playing sublime music from one's fondest memories and happiest dreams.

The rarest occurrences are the occasional sightings of someone dubbed "the priest" - a clockwork humanoid thing of polished wood, porcelain and brass wearing some kind of robe, seen tending to the Temple and vanishing as soon as they are spotted. Someone has to water the plants, it seems.

We haven't given much thought to it yet. Since nearly all moons in Sol system are tidally locked, I'd say Kintsugi would be too, and thus the day-night cycle is as long as an orbit. I'd say a Proper Kintsugi Day is about three Earth days (similar to Europa), and people would tend to separate that into three-ish sleep cycles, and go indoors and dim the lights when it's time to sleep. Every now and then, you'd get a Plenet eclipse (I'd say Plenet is big enough in the sky to cover both suns at once), and maybe at night you'd be able to see Kintsugi transits of Plenet as a shadow on its surface.

I dunno.

Sure there will, and I dunno if I've gone into enough detail about the various pieces of the Kintsystem, but I did leave a lot of it open to interpretation and general fuzziness, so people can go define it as they see fit!

It has already been established that Plenet is further out from the suns than Earth, and Jupiter's orbital period is around 12 years, so a year of approximately 12 Earth years, divided into 72-hour days, which gives us 1460 Kintsugi Days per Kintsugi Year. Assuming that a Kintsugi Official Month is 10 K-days long, that's 146 K-months (and a K-day) per K-year, which is pretty decently long.

They decided early on that a decade was too long a time period to call a "year", so every 12 and a bit months there's a new "year". Each year is numbered, starting with Year 0 when the first settlers of Kintsugi landed. Around about 5 PSS (Pre-Settlement-Settling) is when the rights to settle the system were acquired, and about halfway through 1 ASS (After-Settlement-Settling) is when most of the infrastructure had been created, and there was finally air in the smaller domes within the Great Wall of Nope. Year 0 does not have a suffix, because it's a liminal year.
Each year has a name, which is voted on by the populace in the year-end meeting, with the intent of being topical to the year that has just happened. Voting involves a good deal of friendly flame wars, electioneering, gerrymandering, outright bribery and downright silliness. The only rules are that no two years can be called the same thing and that vulgarity is only funny in moderation.

The galactic standard of years doesn't quite line up with Kintsugi years, but the abundance of personal computers means that the conversion is pretty quick and easy, and anyway every civilisation has its own standard, so what's the problem with another one?

I dunno where in time we want the RP stuff to be set, maybe somewhere around 4-6 ASS, or possibly even later.

In the Kintsugi solar system map, I see two moons next to each other. It looks almost like you heard we liked moons so much you put a moon in orbit around our moon so we could moon while we... uh...? So we could compare Kintsugi's moon-moon (can we name it Moon Moon, please?) to Charon, and Charon and Pluto do their thing in more than 3 Earth days and less than 4 Earth days. Let's round up instead of down, so Moon Moon is 3/4 done with one orbit after 1 Kintsugi Day. Then after 1 more Kintsugi Day, Moon Moon went 1.5 times. Then after 1 more day, Moon Moon went around 2.25 times. Then after 1 more day, Moon Moon went around 3 times. So it takes 4 Kintsugi Days for Moon Moon to sync back up. (That's 12 Earth Days.) There are exactly 365 Moon Moon Months in a Kintsugi Year. I think we should have something longer than Moon Moon Months.Maybe 2 MMMonths to a 30-Earth-day (4-Kintsugi-day) month? Maybe Moon Moon's orbits should be weeks instead? Or fortnights? (They're onl 24 hours off from being fortnight-length, riht?

So, say we have government layers:
Human-Governed Parts of Space, Planets, Continents(ish), Countries, States, Counties, Towns, etc.
Basically the lowest layer has base democratically electe officials. These elect a representative to go to the next layer up. That goes on and on and on. Basically every specific decision regarding their own local layer is decided by the smallest possible unit. So like Street Building is a Town thing, while infrstructural stuff might be a County or even State thing. Funding a new Space Colony might be an All Of Humanity thing, while sending out a science focused space mission would be funded by a country, possibly a continent.
This very simple model has 0 fail-saves installed and would probably lead to a lot of unhappy people raging against their government. Obviously finetuning is needed by putting like more base democratically elected people who can make sure everythign stays together. Maybe the chairperson of each council could be base democratically elected from all representatives of that layer.

And Old Earth is probably still around, somewhere. Probably being refurbished because so much of humanity live offworld, around the solar system and in the Human Colonies (both Earth in General colonies and Specific Country Colonies).

kintsugi seems to be mostly populated by non-humans from my quick glance at character sheets. It could be either a politically independant colony for science or a refugee colony financed by the power of THE NARRATIVE DEMANDS IT.
Tumblrtopia might have SOME humans or might be a human colony that declared itself independent from their COLONISTS AND OPPRESSORS.
So basically human empire is background noise not related to kintsugi and the main conflict with tumblrtopia as far as this model is concerned?
