A cute game by Team Cherry, that is definitely not sad at all in any way!

Full of adventure, the ruins of a kingdom, a massive map that is a completionist's best drug, deep lore, sad backstory, and forgotten gods.

You're here to hit infected bugs with a nail and absorb their soul - and you're allll outta soul.

Aka, come cry with me and @spockandawe while she turns the entire Hollow Knight wiki into a spreadsheet!

    :spockwhy:

    Let there be Zote.

Edit: Behold - the game developer-made invincibility mod!

LET THERE BE ZOTE! The wiki spreadsheet is on hold until after this weekend, because i haven't had a chance to open my computer in a few days (and then I need to kick around my tagging scheme), but it is still very far along! Maybe someday I'll even move past obsessive curative mode and get into creative stuff properly again XD

(also also, for anyone who hasn't run into the idea before, consider: zote as a failed vessel. What if he got a memory wipe like the knight, but didn't come back perfectly hollowed out and instead pieced bits and pieces of memory back into something as coherent as possible, a la quirrel. It's not #confirmed, but I've seen enough anti-vessel!zote assholes making low-quality, condescending arguments that now I'm super attached to the idea)

(also, check out zote's precepts from the point of view of him being a failed vessel, and it is DELICIOUS)

And!! Before i can lose this link from my brainbent slash before this thread can get too far!

This game is known for being a pretty difficult platformer, and my experience was that the normal areas aren't terrible, but the bosses are a stressful slog. Since I was here for lore first and gaming second, and am NOT an intense gamer (obsessive yes, intense no), thirty hours deep I went looking for invincibility mods.

Says Team Cherry: say goodbye to git gud. Since they're the original devs I don't even feel bad about using this, plus they're on top of keeping it updated over time. This mod just makes it so that enemies can't touch or hit you (but you can touch them). You can still pogo off spikes, but you can also walk straight through them. The only real hazard is bottomless pits, since you no longer take damage and respawn on the edge. If you fall into a pit, you need to hit escape, quit to menu, and return, and you'll keep all your items and progress, just respawn at your last save point.

I still enjoyed the straightforward gameplay a lot, but this made it MUCH easier to just noodle around in the story and atmosphere, and I guarantee I would have stalled out before the end without it.

I’ve been playing this game for the last few days and I’m really enjoying it, even if I have absolutely no idea where to go next.

swirlingflight inane analysis and story spinning is my passion

I am finally trying this out (after watching some playthroughs when I was sick) I love the art and lore and visiting all the NPCs as I roam around. I keep visiting Myla to hear her progress with the song, and just chilling in that room for a bit before turning back.

Verdict on Hornet: fast and good at stabs. I am now taking a break on dying to her to go farm some geo from those hedge knights in the neighboring room and buy the lantern. Gonna see if there's any unlit areas I can really explore even without any special movement or skill with pogo

i still quite enjoy hollow knight! i’ve been considering buying it again on the PC (currently i’ve only played on the switch) so i can try playing with randomizer mods.

His deal is that he's mighty. What of it.

[Edit] Also he's a knight of great renown, if that helps.

Also he has a lot to say when you get him to Dirtmouth

oh, we have a HK thread? Excellent.

Here's an interactive map if you've ever wanted to feel very, very small. It was featured in a mossbag video a while (? time is an illusion) back, and I'm still wrapping my mind around the actual distance you go in-game while traveling from one end to the other.

It would also be really cool to see a... 3D? 2½D? version that situates the various areas in 3D space based on what we see on the stag map, Rain World style.
