Deltarune is Undertale's "Canon Divergence, Modern/Coffee Shop AU."

Until we get more solid canon information I'm treating questions like "What's the deal with Sans" with the same gravity as "Why is Tony Stark a hairdresser and why is Steve Rogers a barista." I don't want to sound dismissive of other speculators or their ideas, but most of the Undertale/Deltarune theorycrafting doesn't do it for me.

I would start to agree... but that ending, man. Maybe a coffee shop au with an alternative, edgy past, and alternative main characters who can access a secret world with some parallels (the kingdom sealed away and lost from the light, the king who declared vengeance and made life more unhappy in some ways, the power of fluffy boys).

Not edgier, per se, because Undertale has plenty of things in its history, but Deltarune has some unsettling hints so far... and I really unironically think that the two games' Alphys' opinions re: MewMew will be indicative of the tone of the respective games.

sans is in Smash, this is not a drill

(it's kind of a drill. apparently it's just a mii fighter costume which if you ask me what that is you will already have exceeded my knowledge of Smash. but still holy s h i t)

I’m guessing Toby beat Sakurai at smash and asked for his OC to be put in. I’m not kidding- Toby has been to Sakurai’s HOUSE

sans is the most recognizable undertale character, and also a meme, and he has badass fight music

Sans has the meme power, yeah

I know I've been on team Papyrus In Smash, and recently joined team Frisk in Smash (with attacks that borrowing the power of various friends, to emphasize the power of friendship and references)

some fun things to see in the introduction video:
fight setting is in a relatively plain black background
there's two food items in sight
a plate of spaghetti to the right
a hot dog to the left
    two fights depicted
one featuring humans about the same height as him, attacking with blades
    (he keeps dodging)
one featuring a yellow plant, which jumps on screen in the same place that a fire flower had been
still image is in an Earthbound setting
    he has the slippers

  11. So here’s a question. Why does Toby fox, creator of one of the most popular indie games of the past decade, popular and wealthy enough that he could go to japan and play smash bros with people who work for Nintendo, talented enough to make music for a Pokémon game, have THIS shit as his logo? 91EB4C15-1F5E-4BF2-ACEC-849A0361B9AD.png

It really reflects the artistry of some of the concept art

    C00L DuDE.jpg

    yes, really

I think my favorite part is how it's very much the pixel art quickly drawn thing with 1 brush size. No vectors, nothing smooth, and the solid white background is part of the image - so it can't even be reduced to clean lines.

  14. I can and have drawn a more professional looking logo than that. There’s no reason he can’t get something that doesn’t look like garbage.

he doesnt give a shit, which I can respect.

he's already established himself in the industry and made friends, so I guess he can get away with this tbh cause people already care about the things he does and is known by name

It feels of a piece with wearing a fox mask when doing public things - a stubborn particular presentation that's not capitulating to certain expectations. And - like GlassesBlu says - he's already successful enough that it's unlikely to prevent him from being taken seriously, at least not so much that it closes lots of doors on him.

(Edit - autocorrect name typo has been manually corrected)

  18. I resent the fact that no amount of effort I put into my own creations will be enough because my life is not my own to live, meanwhile this jackass is one of the most famous people on the Internet. If I were trying to make a video game, or professional music, I guarantee I couldn’t get away with a shitty MS paint logo because no one would take me seriously. It reeks of unprofessionalism.

I mean...yes, he's one of the most famous people on the internet? But that's because he got profoundly lucky. He happened to be friends with someone internet-famous and got asked to do some music for a webcomic. Then that friend let him live in their basement, while he worked on a personal project. Then that indie game became amazingly popular, to the point where he was now independently wealthy.

He won the lottery. The degree of professionalism he displays at this point has nothing to do with anything.
