Have you ever come across a line or part in a fic that you loved? One that made you cry, or furious, or laugh so hard someone came and made sure you werent dying? Share it here! Basically the opposite of the badfic (its so bad its good!) thread but not necessarily a rec thread either. Started because im reading undertale fic and this one bit got me good Like. This is some masterful punnery. People who can pun well and write sans are a gift. Its delivered so naturally, like i just heard someone in real life do it. Fuckin. My mugstake im crying everything in this world is good and puns are wonderful.
this line from this danganronpa fic always makes me laugh: Spoiler: explanation in SDR2, there's a minigame called Logic Dive in which the player/Hinata does some sweet skateboarding in his mind in order to arrive at logical conclusions, which is silly enough on its own but is hilarious when acknowledged by hinata himself, as it is here
I put this in the Out Of Context Quotes thread ages ago, but it's still beautiful (for reference, the first speaker is male, the second is female) :
Hetalia one involving Canada leaving passive-aggressive notes at the meetings: "Thank you all for talking over me at the last meeting. I hope it made you all feel better about your tiny landmasses." Another one from the kinkmeme, in which Canada and America attempt to make a twincest porn film and America's not good at improv: "Why would a pizza deliverer deliver pizza to his brother's bedroom?" The bit in BagEnders where Aragorn, Boromir, and Legolas attempt to recreate the Battle of Pelennor Fields while drunk:
The Monster at the End of This Fairytale by ryfkah is one of my favorite Utena fics, and does the best job I've ever seen capturing the tone and atmosphere of canon. The whole thing is gold, but the part that made my whole day: Best Anthy characterization, everyone else go home. ♥
i'm sure i posted this in the fanfic recs thread at some point but i'll post it here bc god damn i love so much of the dialogue in Hang the Fool (overwatch, mchanzo) but this is my favorite:
Also, a fanfic line that changed my fucking life: For context, this is from an AU where Dumbledore was at least three times skeevier than in canon, up to and including the use of magic brain control to force Harry to stay in line with a misinterpreted prophecy for the 'greater good,' and at this point Harry has only just begun to unfuck his mind during his third year when he decides to sass Dumbledore into the next century
Here! Seven very AU books, starting with Saving Connor, but - Spoiler: Trigger warning stuff, short fic rec featuring vague spoilers Warning - this gets dark. There's a lot of mental trauma and various kinds of child abuse in Harry's life that the author does not shy away from hinting at and later outright describing when the abusers are arrested. Voldemort is also a very legitimate threat who kills a lot of people later on, he has some equally fucked up people on the Death Eater payroll, and the curses used can get pretty gory. The author is pretty good about warning for triggers at the start of each chapter that involves them, but I gotta give people a heads up whenever I rec Sacrifices because it's so good but also increasingly dark as time goes on In exchange, you get a vastly expanded and detailed system of Light and Dark magic that varies based on different axes (freedom vs wildness, cooperation vs independence, etc), Legillimancy and Occulmency being used throughout the books as both a healthy and unhealthy coping mechanism for mental health issues, a Harry Potter that actually pays attention to the fact that things like house elf slavery and werewolf discrimination are messed up and does something to help fix it, and an incredibly fleshed out cast of Slytherin and other Dark wizards who aren't all Voldemort supporters by default Harry also gets multiple pet snakes. This is very important to me. The boy deserves adorable snake companions, JK Rowling (I know the premise of Harry having a twin who is the ~real~ Boy Who Lived throws some people off, but Spoiler Harry is still the boy who lived. His parents and Dumbledore are just complete dumbasses about the prophecy and refuse to believe it could be Harry because his powers tend to be Darker
-It Makes Me Happy That I'm Not Them (gore warning) Mostly I just like that line because I get both references.
