    Didn't see a general fashion/appearance thread, so I figured I'd make one!

So as y'all probably have gathered, I like to put a bit of effort into my appearance. I try to keep my hair nice, I usually wear some degree of makeup (though I also go without sometimes), and I love putting together outfits and acquiring clothes and shoes.

I think my favorite articles of clothing are my skater dresses--they're these knee-length sundresses with kinda floaty skirts, made of a stretchy, breathable fabric. I have two so far. One of them is blue with a skull and rose print, and the other is black with a space print and unicorns at the bottom. They're super comfy and they flatter my figure in all the right ways (drawing attention to my boobs and hips while de-emphasizing my stomach), so naturally I wear them a lot and want to acquire more dresses in that style. I also like skirts and jeans, and I have a ton of shoes.

I also own a truly obscene amount of lipstick. My favorite kind is Wet N Wild's MegaLast, which is a really nice creamy matte lippie. And it's cheap, too, which is nice--less than three bucks a pop at CVS. (I'm trying to collect as many as possible--so far I have Cherry Bomb, Smokin' Hot Pink, Cinnamon Spice, Stoplight Red, Don't Blink Pink, Mauve Outta Here, Red Velvet, Sugar Plum Fairy, Cherry Picking, and Dollhouse Pink. I...I might have a problem.) I don't generally wear much makeup, but I also don't go for a natural look--my usual makeup is mascara (since while my lashes are long-ish, they're very pale), black eyeliner (usually just under the eyes to make them look a bit wider), and lipstick of some sort, generally either dark or bright. Sometimes I wear eyeshadow too.

    So uh...general fashion thread go!!

@whimsicalobservant I do think it's nice to also have this one though, as more of a discussion of personal style, specifically?

I've had periods in my life in which knowing I was going to get dressed was literally the only thing that made me get out of bed in the morning. I put a lot of stock in appearances. As long as I know I look good, the knowledge serves as kind of a ward against feeling really bad - it's like makeup, hair and clothes are a shield that ensures a base level of safety and comfort for me.

Partly because of that, I really miss my long hair. Short hair may look good (sometimes I even think it looks better on me than long!) but it doesn't feel like home the way long hair does, and even if I feel it contributes to my looking good, it's a looking good that feels uncomfortable. I don't regret having cut it (especially because it honestly does look awesome) but I can't wait for it to be long again.

On a similar note, lately I've been avoiding makeup because the way it polishes my face has been weirding me out more than it's making me feel better. It feels like looking good on someone else's terms. Which doesn't mean I don't generally love it! I've also been having a shift towards more nude lips and more colorful eyes, which, weird as that may sound, registers to me as more masculine makeup. Don't ask me why.

I like clothing that feels a bit costume-y in subtle ways, and I like color. I'm so known for being a dash of color during winter (or on rainy days, because all my umbrellas are colorful and festive) that even distant acquaintances have asked if I was alright on the few days in my life I've dressed in all gray and black. I also enjoy a rustic look, with leather shoes and practical messenger bags, and love handmade jewelry, especially if it has nature-y motifs of plants, animals and flowers. I love necklaces, rings, scarves and hair accessories but dislike bracelets (they usually get caught on stuff, plus I feel they make my hands look less graceful) and earrings (there's literally no way to attach them to my ears that doesn't cause discomfort after a couple of hours, PLUS they get extra uncomfortable with headphones).

I enjoy clothes with a more tailored fit, not tight but not particularly loose either. This preference has been getting very strong lately, whereas when I was younger I preferred a combination of loose and fitted. If there's more loose or flowy stuff, I like it to be constrained only to the top or only to the bottom of my sillouette, e.g. a poofy skirt with a skintight top or a loose, flowy peasant top with skinny jeans. And I recently started leaning towards the latter in those cases.

My taste in shoes is comfy, rustic and clunky. Huge stompy boots or comfy mocassins are my faves, though I also have more feminine boots with sensibly high heels and some colorful, girly flats which I also enjoy. I just don't wear any shoes if I don't think I could walk around the town all day in them, because I don't have a car and walking all day is a reality for me.

Headphones are so frequent a part of my look that I generally treat them as fashion accessories in their own right. I've had so many cute headphones, my fave being one that was partially made of wood and pleather. My current one looks crappy tho, but it was an emergency purchase when the former one croaked, because headphones are also... kind of a lifeline for me when I step out of the house. Like a little bit of home that can feel comfortable and give me peace no matter where I go.

@wixbloom Fair enough, I was just being my usual pedantic self ::)

Makeup is Too Much Effort, because I like sleeping in better, heh. But I have an array of stuff (although it's really little in comparison to some people's collections -sideeyes @IvyLB - ) which I know how to use (and is colour-coordinated to my skin type and general attire colour).

I usually wear sturdy pants and some kinda serviceable shirt thing, depending on outside temperature. Most of my tees have fandom references on them, tho. (mostly homestuck). I feel most at home in loose pants. (and most of my stuff has chew marks / holes (depending on age) around the collar.)

I'd wear my winter boots all year round, buuuut they're kinda too warm for summer.

What I always wear is my Signless pendant, I don't even take it off to shower.

don't you know side-eyeing me summons me too, hun?

I am the scavenger faery it me

I have an obscenely large bedroom (like 25 m²) of which one entire wall is just closet space. And even then I have a huge chair dedicated to clothes as well, alongside two freestanding clothes racks, one for coats and one for stuff on hangers I regularly-ish need.
In my weak, pathetic defense, half of that is costume or special occassion wear so... uh... that's no real defense okay.

I need to organize my makeup and seperate it from my mom's stuff but yeah
makeup. I have makeup impulse purchase problems. I feel bad i buy an eyeshadow. or colorful mascara. or eyeliner. or glitterdust. or a lipstick. I am aware of this but its a part of my character at this point?

My style ranges from preppy posh to slightly fantasy-hippie with mild goth influences when I am in more of a femme mood and hipster to grunge /apoca-goth when I'm feeling more androgynous. I don't think I'll wear tight pants much anymore when out of character, since I like how loose harem-pants look on me. I need more of those in punkier and more different styles. Obviously will, however keep the colorful skinny jeans I have though. Also I need more flowy maxi-skirts. I also own a ridiculous amount of knit-sweaters. I love sweaters.

I haven't left the house bare-faced without feeling sick and just going to the doctor in about.... 4 or 5 years? And I usually do a full contoured face of makeup because I just...? I never questioned it. I do do lighter makeup when I wake up late or don't feel like doing something fancy but I just derive so much fun and joy out of slathering color on my face why would I not do it whenever i go out?
The only different thing i do for 'fancy outings' makeup is I wear false lashes (preferably fancy paper lashes, lace lashes or feather lashes if I can coordinate them but regular falsies are plenty cool too) and then not wear glasses. Also I might wear even more glitter than usually.

I own a ton of wigs and I love hats but recently haven't worn the hats much because either wig or headphones interfere.
I also own a metric fucktonne of scarves even though I almost always wear the same four ones out of lazyness.

Oh I also like wearing mismatched earrings or just one dangly one, and not at all because I just like to pretend I'm doing it on purpose not because I constantly lose one or the other.

I have a lot of shoes but they are all either with straps or ties, since I have super slim heels and ankles and I literally lose regular pumps mid-step unless I buy them three sizes too small for the front of my feet.
I am also absurdly proud of my ability to walk in gigantic platform heels even though I don't do it often because my bright turquoise booties are surprisingly hard to coordinate :P
Right now I love my tan chunky boots and my black biker boots as well as my preppy black oxfords.

I like rough and natural looking minerals in jewelry if that makes sense? Like these necklaces made from shards of semi-precious stones I love those and chunky wire-wrapped pendants.

I love glasses and shades as fashion statements but I don't have the money for a good collection of them with fitted lenses.

Basically I am regularly hunting through ebay for clothes or go thrift shopping. But I'm trying to get better at sewing so I can like supplement my wardrobe with a bit of weirder stuff, that feels more "me".

idk how many of you already buy from here but: http://www.shopmissa.com/ !! literally everything is a dollar, which is wild....im ordering some stuff soon, i do check reviews for the brand and stuff before buying, so ill let you know how it goes...? ive heard a lot of good things about shopmissa in general

(im buying new eyeliner and some matte lipsticks, which is fun!!! they're out of a lot of the shades i would really want (dark purple and a blueish color, for example) but the store itself gets updates and restocks on a fairly regular basis from what ive noticed)

ahh I'd forgotten about that place! I need a new brush set anyway, mine are starting to shed all over the place (AGAIN ugh, i hate makeup brushes) and I hadn't even fully replaced all my brushes from my old set.
... wait, I should check, before I fall in love with anything... okay they seem to ship to the EU, technically, on a 10 dollar shipping flatrate which is honestly better than I was afraid. Just means I have to do some maths wrangling and currency conversion to figure out how big of an order I can make (have to stay below 22 € to dodge customs. Know your laws, it makes international shopping so much less of a hassle!) But I'll definitly see about some concealer and foundation stuff if it's any good? Do they have vampire shades for foundation?

I'm kinda annoyed I haven't found any good reviews of their stuff, so if anybody buys stuff could you give a rundown? (I wanna buy stuff, but I wanna make sure I'll actually wear it.)

hmm they have a TON of fun lipstick colors so I might just go spend around 22 euro and see if the fun colored ones are any good. should yield me 14-15 lipstick colors (depending on currency conversion lol) if I don't substitute a shitton of idk falsies or whatever. I can do a test order and put up an indepth review, I just have to wait til my mom is back home cuz she has a paypal and I don't :P (aka til I think friday or saturday or something? my family is away on holiday)

@emythos reviews can be found based on product, not the website! for example, they have a lot of kleancolor brand stuff, and there were some real,y nice looking matte lipsticks of that brand, so i went and googled "kleancolor matte lipstick reviews"! you can't really find site reviews because the website itself doesn't have its own brand, if that makes sense? i may have parsed your reply wrong though haha

im ordering some eyeshadow and lipstick and eyeliner i think, and ill def post here when it comes in and let you know how it went!!

Dear makeup enthusiasts here, how would one figure out if a colour would look good on them. Can you test it without buying? Or is it just trial and error?
