oh nice, I watch all of those! I started with mumbo and then kinda got sucked in lol, now I’m subscribed to like half the active hermits plus recap. it’s a really neat series!

ok the first one is easy: McDonald's trainer Garnet, stuck in an elevator with Amethyst, lab partner Pearl. Garnet would also be a good lab partner. actually I'd be ok with Garnet in any of these situations

for the second... Karkat as McDonald's trainer just because I feel like he'd be the least likely to be intentionally confusing for a pathetic scrap of entertainment in this red and yellow hellscape. stuck in an elevator with Dave because the other two would definitely lose it after hour 3, especially Sollux. that leaves Sollux as my lab partner and tbh I could definitely do worse

    ooh ok

lab partner... Aradia simply because then I would get to hang out with her for an entire semester lol. also she is more scientifically inclined than the other two, though archaeology isn’t exactly a lab science

stuck in an elevator with Kanaya. if I’m being honest the primary reason for this one is I can’t bring myself to subject her to a mcdonald’s uniform. also she’s the most likely to have a spare book to lend me

mcdonald’s trainer Feferi. sorry, Feferi. I feel like she would be the best teacher out of the three though, and the most fun to talk shit about customers with

I have a job interview tomorrow that I'm absolutely not prepared for because it's a weld test and I haven't done any welding in almost a year

failure can't actually set me back any farther than where I currently am. even if I don't pass the weld test there are other opportunities in the company. I'll just try to keep those things in mind, stay calm, and be upfront about my current skill level and desire to work and improve myself. hopefully the person I talk to will be friendly.

I've been sick with anxiety about this for a week but this is in fact the best course of action available to me as far as I can tell so that's that. I'll just have to do my best.

    thank you!!!!

it went OK actually, better than I thought it would! I still don't think I passed, but I got closer than I thought. welding is just enough like riding a bicycle it seems! I'll hear back either way by the end of the week so fingers crossed

on the negative side I think I've developed a physiological stress response that manifests just like food poisoning lol. this is the second morning in the past 4 months or so when I've woken up with Mystery Stomach Illness that couldn't be explained by anything I'd eaten, and the previous time was when my dog was really sick. this time wasn't as bad, I didn't actually throw up or anything, but still Not Ideal.

Oh i had that during my nervous breakdown at uni

I was showing all the signs of having a bad tummy bug except the symptoms would wax and wane as my stress level did

I got offered a job! it is not the job I wanted but it is probably the best way to get there. unfortunately it still sounds kind of miserable. I am on the fence.

    cons:
    general labor, not welding
    $15/hr (see previous)
second shift, so 4:30 PM - 3 AM. this is the big one.
I don’t know exactly what “general labor” entails.

    pros:
general labor -> welding is a common path at this company and apparently I came really close to passing the weld test. unless I fuck up bad this will lead to welding.
even if it doesn’t, I badly need experience in my chosen area of construction/fabrication. this will give me that no matter what and will be a step towards better things.
only 4 days a week - fridays off.
$15 isn’t horrible and apparently second shift actually gets a bit more than that.

overall I think taking it is the best idea since this may be the best I’ll get. I am entry level as hell.

    Congrats on job offer!

i don't know how your normal circadian rythm runs, but if you're a nightowl, this could work out even though 3am is...hella late..

3 am is pushing it but acceptable for my circadian rhythm - the problem is that I hate having my Designated Free Time before work, so I’d be waking up at like 3 and going to bed at 8. not ideal but doable? especially if there’s a chance of getting on first shift at some point later on. idk.

I know what my spider-riding traveling textile peddler gnome d&d character is gonna wear on their head

except white because their giant spider is one of the fluffy white ones. it's gonna have knitted ear flaps attached to the sides, and they'll be able to pull it over their eyes like goggles! maybe the front lenses will be replaced with glass.

RvB managed to turn a throwaway joke about a grown man asking for piggyback rides into a heartbreaking-in-retrospect piece of foreshadowing, and for this it will always have my highest respect

week one of Job: complete!! my body hurts!! I want to record more details but I am too tired to think of words!!

look at the size of this bruise on my thigh lol
    [IMG]
looks much worse than it feels. it’s from repositioning the mag drill - eventually I will gain enough Muscle to be able to move the thing around without having to use my leg for support, and there will be less bruising and also less general pain of the body

it’s only been like a day and a half of actual work as opposed to orientation stuff but I am already really excited by this job. it’s intimidating for sure, I’m exactly as lost on most things as I expected to be - but when I finally learn what I’m doing enough to be considered reasonably competent, it’s gonna be awesome. I have an actual job that I actually care about and want to stick with! a long term plan that I made is in the process of paying off!!! what is this feeling :D
