I have no idea why, but for the last while I've been having an absolute ball with Room Escape Games. Even the silly ones. I'm not that fantastic in the ones that involve a ton of math, but they're all free and noticing patterns or subtle shifts in scenery is really mind numbingly relaxing. Especially if I turn the usually stupid BG music off and just speed run a page worth in a row.

Anyone else with a similar enjoyment, from click-hell pixel perfect scenery hunters to literally sticking a pencil in an apple and using it to unlock a door?

    strictly quadrilateral alive, alive, alive!

Why are you sticking a pencil in an apple?

Because it was a parody game, and honestly it made me giggle. There were literally only the two items to find, it turns out, and by jamming the pencil into the apple the door unlocked. Tongue in cheek about how a ton of the games make -no- logical sense as far as how to unlock doors or cabinets.

There is a place in Houston where you can go play one of these IRL. I am dying to round up friends and go try it and see how long it takes us to either escape or strangle each other.

    [edit: Here it is!]

Biggest question and possible game breaker: would any of them be wheelchair accessible and actually be accessible. 8Ic

    MY TIME HAS COME

seriously i used to binge these while still living at my parent's place, and sadly Sakura doesn't make those anymore, I always looked forward to new stuff from them every week (Sakura's stuff on escapegames24)

nowadays im more on jayisgames, if im playing. got a file with favourite programmers somewhere...
since im playing on tablet only, i kinda shy away from those where you need to right-click or mouseover to get info, because those are kinda bleh unless i hook up a keyboard ::/

tomatea, no1game, neutral, kotorinosu, robamimi, 58works
    their stuff is really nice.

I've been playing over on Kongregate. Scriptwelder's stuff is more of a "survive this scenario by finding the items" rather than just escaping a room and I'm really hoping for more from them. TeraLumina and ainarsa make rather nice things as well! ainarsa has some very complex patterns and very subtle pattern shifts and texture shifts, but they're not so impossible that I rip my hair out. They use tasty colors in their more polished games as well, hnnghhhh.

  11. I am a bizarre breed, that while I LOVE escape games and the like, I almost always have to resort to a walk-through especially with the more pixel-hunty kinds.

I recently have been binging on the Escape Man series by no1game. Quite simple stylistically, and not too long.

However, my absolute favorite series (although more adventury than room-escape) have to be the Submachine and Covert Front series, both by Mateusz Skutnik. the atmosphere of oppressive loneliness and isolation in Submachine especially just sends shivers down my spine sometimes. If you are looking for series that are really atmospheric and have surprisingly interesting stories, I cannot recommend them enough.

Oh, I love these. I also love the Don't Escape series, where you have to try and successfully barricade/defend yourself so you can survive the night.

Yesssss, ScriptWelder's stuff is all so good. Have you played 2 and 3?

Yeah, half the time I have to resort to a walkthrough too on the pixel hunt ones or the extreme math/numbers ones because .... >:? how do you hide a 20 pixel key behind 1 pixel. I'll definitely look into those though!

I have! I think 3 is my favorite of all of them, even though I kinda saw the "twist" coming.

Same, though I admit to having to play a few times to get the twist despite unlocking it because I wasn't smart enough to notice the bright green light switch that needed pressing. Helped me unlock all the other endings though, so. They've improved a lot each game, I can't wait for a 4 to be released.

I love Neutral and Submachine; I love the big, complicated games with lots of puzzles. Another good programmer is Tesshi-e.
I also like the Rusty Lake games; I'm not usually into horror but they're interesting and the puzzles are fun.

Here's a link of a few thousand. :D I've been steadily plucking my way through most of them off and on for a few weeks, it's mind numb loveliness.

Oh man, I love room escape games. I'm not always good at them, but I love them. I always get scared that there is going to be something that jumps out at me, though >.<
