She did! The Yaoi Paddle video is currently being reworked on though. One of the stories she had gotten from her source turned out to be false. Specifically the one about shattering someone's hip. At the time both she and the person from the company thought the story was true. Turns out it didn't happen, so Red Bard is working on a Yaoi Paddle video that is historically accurate.

Woman cares about the integrity of history and her work. I respect that. A lot.

Peach Creek is a fan made sequel to Ed, Edd, n Eddy that youtube recommended to me. Aged up to high school. Theyve got a few shorter animations up and are working on a seasonish thing with a few shorts here and there I guess? I didnt watch much of the original cartoon but so far i think PC is some good shit, check it out.

Please to have an understated, inviting, enlightening, and powerfully moving video about the Jewish folklore figure the Golem, by a Jewish video essayist.

It begins with story time, featuring gorgeous papercut illustrations and helpful sounding out of Hebrew letters of a couple important words for those of us who can’t read the language. It feels like being invited into a liminal space with just the good parts of that kind of childhood experience, all of the enchantment and no attempts to cushion you from your own emotional reactions. And that’s just the beginning of the video.

It’s almost 40 minutes long and felt like maybe 20, even though I had to pause several times to rinse off my contacts or blow my nose because I cried a lot. It never felt like it was trying to make me cry, which made me cry even more.

The message it leaves you with is beautiful and incredibly well presented. The whole thing feels so lovingly constructed. Highly recommend.

I'm so glad to see this video recommended. Jacob Geller became my favorite YouTuber overnight with his video about Mario Galaxy. He's just a really compelling dude with a way to make anything interesting with his insights, big and small.

I hadn't checked the golem vid out yet, but if it's from Geller that's even more reason to watch it. He does great video essays.

I’ve been watching youtube video essays like a fiend. Did I somehow not recommend Tee Noir here? How?? I’ve failed at the youtube channel!

But seriously this is one of the most important videos I saw last year. It’s about how racism intersects with misogyny, homophobia, and transphobia. It’s actually a very easy watch, especially for a video that covers things like the terrible way that Megan Thee Stallion was treated in the court of public opinion after she was shot. The reason this is so important to me is because I didn’t know this was a pattern. Now that I know, I’m so much more likely to see that something is wrong when it’s happening in front of me and to be able to say something more substantial than “this feels not okay somehow but it might just be rude” if appropriate. (Eta: Also it’s a lot easier to avoid being complicit and even perpetuating harmful stereotypes myself if I actually know what they are. I would like to be the kind of ally that doesn’t require constant babysitting, ya know?)

    “Transphobia affects us all.”

I love Khadija! I’ve sussed out the vibe and declare that it is thoughtful and positive! She has such an uplifting presence even when the subject matter is very serious. I think she does an amazing job of very naturally demonstrating that educating oneself is an ongoing process of learning, thought, and personal growth that’s a lot of work and isn’t always going to be perfect despite your best effort and intentions. That’s something I really think we could use more of. Most of leftism is not actually about fostering anything conducive to activism, but that is.

If you could really use some absolute top tier bisexual social commentary, or if you’re not really sure if you need it because you’ve never had it and you’re not entirely sure what it would be like, I can’t recommend verilybitchie highly enough. I’m not just saying that because we share a handle on the internet, though I can’t say I’m not a bit pleased to be in such esteemed company.

It’s nearly a physical relief to hear someone so decisively dismantle biphobic shit with thoughtfulness and compassion, but without apologizing for pointing out when it’s biphobic. Or shit. She has a history in offline activism and community as well as a solid foundation in queer history and theory, and that gives her so much valuable perspective to bring to the take of the day.

This one addresses complaints about her use of the word “monosexual” in a quotation in a previous video. The complaints alleged that the term is homophobic. The video includes a very interesting examination of a serious shortcoming of privilege theory as a model for understanding social justice.

She also has similarly amazing stuff covering nonbinary and trans topics. Here is a beautiful skit in which Rita Skeeter interviews Harriet Potter.

Her subscriber count is frankly criminally low given how damn good the content is.

if we're reccing channels may i shout out jessie gender (i actually think khadija recced her stuff in a recent video, which i thought was really cool)

i found her from a video on sia's "music" but i find the rest of her content to be really thoughtful, entertaining, and fun. it may be the autism in me but i love hearing other autistic people talk about their special interests, and she is a hardcore trekkie, so i really enjoy her star trek videos both bc her enthusiasm is infectious and i like the franchise myself

she does videos on gender and queer stuff, star trek, autism a little bit, geek culture in general but...she can probably explain her channel better than me
