If you have any questions not included here, please feel free to start a thread or PM a moderator. FAQs are broken into sections for navigability reasons. Thanks to @Maya for all the screenshots.

    Q. Do I have to be mentally ill, disabled, or autistic to be here?
    • No. This is conceived primarily as a mental health support forum, but everyone is welcome as long as they want to contribute to the community.
    Q. Can I invite people to kintsugi?
    • Yes. Feel free to invite anyone you think would be a good addition to the community - whether it’s because they could use support, you could use their support, or you just want them around to talk cool fandom stuff.
    Q. Do I have to tell people about my abuse/health/experience history?
    • No. You never have to disclose anything you don’t wish to.
Q: I signed up but never got a confirmation email, what gives?
    • All email notifications are turned off as some users may have abusers monitoring their emails, and having those people find out about the forum could put those users in danger. New accounts are hand-confirmed by mods: just check back later.
Q: Then how do I reset my password?
    • Contact Seebs (either email or non-anon on tumblr) with convincing evidence that you are the user you say you are and they can reset it for you.
    Q. Why did a post show up way after the timestamp says it was posted?
    • Some users are on post moderation - see the moderation section for details - and moderators don't always approved them right away, since sometimes they require discussion and sometimes we sleep. Some posts also get moved, like a heavy politics comment might be moved from the politics joke thread to the heavy politics thread, generally with user input.
    Q. How do I make suggestions/give feedback on the forum?
    • Create a thread in the Meta forum or message Seebs on the forum.
    Q. How do I rename my account?
    • An admin has to rename it for you. You can ask in this thread.
    Q. What can I post in what subforum?
    • See the glossary for information on subforums, but also don't worry about it too much: if you determine later that you meant for it to be somewhere else, you can ask a moderator to move it for you.
    Q. What are the community guidelines?
    • One of the whole things here is that there is no punitive response if you don't know, and they're guidelines, not rules. But there are some guidelines here in the Read This First thread.
    Q. How can I warn for triggers?
    • When creating a thread, you can add tags upon creation warning for triggers. They appear below the thread title when the thread is opened.

You can also warn for triggers in your posts by putting the triggering content in a spoiler. Highlight the triggering text and select “insert” and then “spoiler”

Put the trigger(s) in the title

The resulting code should look like this. The content must be between the
    Code:
    [SPOILER]
    and
    Code:
    [/SPOILER]
tags for the spoiler to work

    Q. What are threads labeled "vent"?
    • A vent thread is a common name for most threads within Brainbent and it’s subforum, The Holler Closet. A vent thread can be whatever the creator wants it to be, be that a place to let out negative emotions and scream, a place to talk to and hang out with friends, or just a place to talk to yourself about whatever. What you do with and in a vent thread is up to you, just make sure that you’re still respectful of The One Rule™ and that people may be reading what you’re posting, even if you don’t want or expect them to.

Additionally, you can create a vent thread and ask that it be moved to the Caring Void, a subforum where only people with the link to threads (and mods) can read them.
    Q. What do I do if another user and I get into a heated argument?
    • There are multiple options at your disposal. Remember to always take care of yourself first, and that, no matter the discussion, you always reserve the right to walk away from it, with or without explanation. No one, mod or otherwise, will ever try to force you to participate in an argument/debate. That said, a heated argument, especially when requested, should be directed to That Could Have Gone Better, otherwise known as Argument Island. All threads made there are open to everyone, but you can ping certain people using the @username command, request third parties to not participate, and request mediators at your will.

Other tools at your disposal include:
      • Ignoring the user
      • Ignoring the thread
      • Ignoring the forum
      • Walking away
    Q. What do I do if I want to leave an argument/What do I do if someone starts to argue with me about something I can’t/don’t want to discuss?
    • You are not required to engage. You can just leave. Posting that you are doing so is polite, but you are not required to disclose or engage with things that make you uncomfortable.
    Q. What’s up with RP on Kintsugi?
    • There’s a whole separate FAQ for that.
    Q. How do I set up a sub-account?
    • Hover over your name in the top right to reveal an options menu:

    Select “Sub-Accounts”

On the redirected page, you’ll find this form: a password and email are not required.

Once you’ve created a new sub, it’ll appear in a list above! You can login to any sub by clicking “login as user” in the top left of the screen:

From there, you’ll see a list of your sub accounts to choose from. When you are logged into a sub, you’ll see a red button that says “logged in as [username]” in the top right.

    Q. Can people tell that a particular sub is mine?
    • No, nobody can tell which sub belongs to who except for admins. People can tell that it is a subaccount, but only admins can see who it belongs to. Admin observation is based on IP addresses, and admins don’t track those down unless there’s a problem that requires it.
    Q. What is post moderation?
    • Post moderation means a moderator has to approve your posts before they show up. This isn't a punishment: most users have requested it because a time delay and someone who can check in with them means they're less likely to post something they regret later. Seebs, the admin, is currently on post moderation for this reason. You might also end up on moderation if you are habitually attacking other users.
    Q. Will I be notified if I’m put on moderation?
    • Yes.
    Q. Wait, one post of mine is on moderation, what gives?
    • The entire That Could Have Gone Better subforum is on post moderation, to keep participants limited. Posts by people not involved will most likely be Pear Wiggled.
    Q. What is Pear Wiggling?
    • Moderators and admins can wiggle posts - send them to The Pear Wiggler subforum - when they don't belong in the thread they were posted in, need discussion before being made public (like asking someone to spoil something), or are strongly against the public interest. This is done rarely, explanations are usually given, and they can always be challenged or questioned.
    Q. How are mods chosen?
    • People who stuck out as having good emotional regulation and are in enough of a spread of time zones that there should usually be at least one on.
    Q. Why hasn't a mod done something about [x]?
    • Probably because one hasn't seen it. There is a small moderation team, and in most cases we rely on reports to draw our attention to things that require it, including moving things to a new subforum.
    Q. Can I appeal a mod decision?
    • Absolutely. If you have any questions or complaints or want to debate something a mod has done, you can post a thread in That's So Meta! (public) or The Caring Void (only you and the mod team) or contact the mods individually.
    Q. How do I contact a mod individually?
    • Beldaran prefers PM
    • Chiomi is fine with PM but prefers Discord for anything requiring immediate attention (Chiomi#6406)
    • No one else has as yet expressed a preference.
    Q. Glub?
    • Glub!

    Q. What does ignoring a forum/thread/user do?
    • Since Kintsugi doesn’t have a block system to speak of, ignoring simply hides the ignored content from your view. A link titled “Show Ignored Content” will appear when ignored content is present on the page in the bottom right, and clicking it will allow you to see the ignored content. You can also ask to not see the link to show ignored content.
    Q. How do I ignore a forum/subforum?
Go to the forum/sub forum you want to ignore by clicking it on the front page
Click on “ignore forum” to the right.

You can select exactly how you’d like to ignore the forum, including not seeing it on the front page, not seeing it in your news feed, and not seeing it on the new posts page.

    Q. How do I ignore a thread?
Go to the thread you want to ignore
Click on “ignore thread” to the right

Just like with ignoring a forum, you can choose where and how to ignore it.

    Q. How do I ignore a user?
    1. Click on the user’s name on one of their posts, bringing up a mini profile:

    Click on ignore

    2. Hover over your name to bring up the options menu

    Click on “People You Ignore”

In the provided form, type the username of the person you want to ignore (must be exact). They’ll appear in a list above! (Note: Currently, admins and mods cannot be ignored)

    Q. How do I un-ignore a user/thread?
    Q. How do I change the color scheme?
You can change the color scheme by navigating to the bottom of the page, here, you should see a link that says “Original Blurple”. Click it, and select a color scheme of your choice. You can change it at any time.

    Q. Are there post signatures?
Yes! You can set one by opening up your options menu and selecting “Signature”.

The opened window will allow you to create or edit your signature

However, you will not be able to view signatures until you turn them on, do this by going to preferences, either in the options menu or on the side of any options window

From there, make sure “Show people's signatures with their messages” is checked

    Q. How do I make images show up right side up?
    • Rotate the image, save it, then rotate it back the correct way and save it again. This sets the preferred orientation rather than just going with whatever weird default.

    Glossary
Terms and acronyms that recur frequently. Please contact me with suggested additions.

18+: A thread or forum restricted to those over the age of 18 for the comfort and safety of other users.
Anti: A person who believes that shipping abusive dynamics, large age gaps, incestual relationships, or writing and consuming fiction of dark material (such as rape and abuse) is condoning these relationships/actions in real life. They often “call out”, harass, and threaten people who do these things.

    BPD: Borderline Personality Disorder

CDCF: Complaints Department Circular File, a thread in Fine Imported Drama
NSFW: Something not suitable for a work environment due to content - often sexual, also anything with autoplaying music, lots of violence, or particularly vociferous swearing.

    Subforums:
    • General Chatter: What it sounds like. Social stuff, idle chatter.
    • That's So Meta!: The forum for discussing the site. Contains stickies and FAQ.
    • The Undercity: Old meta forum.
    • Howdy there!: Introductions.
    • Your Bijou Blogette: Create a personal thread that is all your own!
    • Clearance Level 7: For when you don't want your bijou blogette visible to anyone but logged-in members. (private)
    • Up the People: politics and activism
    • Top Serket: Generic forum visible only to logged-in users, for a thin veneer of privacy from random passersby and search engines. (private)
    • Bottom Serket: 18+ NSFW subforum (private)
    • Make It So: Arts, crafts, and all things creative
    • Fine Imported Drama: A good place to post stuff like links to other sites where something happened you want to chat about. (private)
    • It's Galley's Turn: Forum RP and games and things like that. (Not "discussion of RPGs", that's elsewhere.) Contains multiple subforums for larger RP universes and a subforum for NSFW RP.
    • Fan Town: Your Fave Is Problemagic. Fandom discussions!
    • WITNESS ME: Sympathy and commiseration over loss and death. There's a thread tag for those threads dealing explicitly with death or the process of dying. (private)
    • That Could Have Gone Better: Debugging social interactions that happened elsewhere on Kintsugi. (private) This forum is also moderated, so only people invited to participate in a discussion can: your posts will only be visible to you and to moderators before a mod approves them.
    • General Advice: Advice requests that don't fit better somewhere else.
    • Brainbent: general mental health group hug
    • The Holler Closet: Like a crying closet, only for shouting. (private)
    • Sperglord Central: Autism-related discussion stuff, like informal and incompetent Internet diagnoses, chatter about symptoms, things like that. (private)
    • Braaaaiiiinnnns…: Discussion of brains, mental health, mental illness, and just how people think, that isn't about autism, gender, or abuse.
    • XX/XY: Sex, gender, and topics related to those. (private)
    • Is this abuse? Discussion pertaining to abuse: Diagnosing, coping, recovering, and getting out. This is the place for any discussion of abuse, not just clarification of whether or not something is abuse. All the trigger warnings. (private)
    • This Too Too Solid Flesh: Physical disability and bodyweirds (private)

Mad Science subforums, where the functionality is a little different:
    • The Pear Wiggler: Posts get moved here sometimes, and are still visible to the poster.
    • The Memory Hole: Go ahead and post things. You can't read them. We can't either. Look, it sounded like a good idea at the time. If you wan to record something for potential reference later but not have to look at it unless it becomes absolutely necessary, you can shove it here.
    • The Kintsugijin Diaries: You can see your posts, no one else can, not even mods.
    • Howling Into The Caring Void: Post things here for mods to see them and other users not to see them. Discussion and venting are all fine.
Private (as regards subforums): Visible only to logged-in users.
