    Last couple of days we've had the rain mostly dry up with the sun coming out. The cherry tree has absolutely exploded in blossoms and the smell! The only thing better is when the lilacs start blooming, which will be soooon.

    Everything is warming up and drying out this week. Baby chicks have been moved into the littler coup inside the main run, and we went to go look at the property and walk around it to see if we could spot any survey markers. Stomped around, got a little sunburnt, found a patch of fur with a porcupine quill! Didn't find any survey markers, but we did meet the neighbor across the road. His name is Jake, and he's a super nice dude. Was very excited to talk with us and tell us all about the area and people living there, the kind of wild life that hangs out... Turns out three years ago he did what we're planning to do: bought land, bought an RV, and camped on the property in his RV while they put in the well, septic, and MFH. And even more fortuitous he's looking to sell his RV. I'm not generally a signs and portents person, but shit sure feels like it's falling into place really nicely.

    Pics!

    Oof, credit union I talked to didn't offer the loan program I'm looking for. I'm going to call the local USDA office tomorrow and see if they can point me to a lender that does have it. Everyone so far wanted 20% down payment, and then you still have to factor in closing costs and taxes and then there's nothing left for getting an RV and I now have bare land and no way to do anything with it.

    If I'm going 20% down, I might just contact the seller and see if they'd be willing to finance themself. Skip closing costs and banks altogether.

    Okay, so the listing agent actually didn't get the doc lol. Our realtor is resending it to him. And apparently the seller lives on a house boat in the middle of Puget Sound, and is kind of hard to get ahold of so he asked to extend the response window to Monday evening. This is nerve wracking ;__;

    I really really recommend this video to everyone, even if you aren't interested in permaculture. It made a light bulb click for me, especially the talk about Zones of Brilliance. Everyone has a niche they excel in, but often times we relegate them into hobbies, only let ourselves indulge if we've "earned" it. The rest of the time we spin our wheel and wear ourselves down doing things we hate because the common belief holds that if it isn't hell then it's not work and it's not of value. How backwards is that? It's not only a toxic belief on an individual level, it's a just plain inefficient way to run your society?

    If we find the place where our passion intersect, we find the place were we can thrive.

    Weirdly that echoes a talk by Griffin McElroy I listened to yesterday? It was a talk at FSU or something but anyway he was talking about his career path and joked that he and his brothers were "lazy so we just did the thing we do all the time which was making each other laugh over the dinner table".

    And when students asked about motivating themselves or finding a path through a lot of possible options he was like do something you're already good at and like. And joked "if you subscribe to Malcolm Gladwells 10,000 hours idea, I mean I got that with videogames by age 10 easy".

    But yeah, same idea minus the problems you enjoy solving angle. Thanks for sharing!

    It's not obvious right away, but the McElorys ARE attempting to address problems! In TAZ, Griffin saw an opportunity to add queer rep and not only took it, but took the time to really research it and be as respectful as possible, elevating community voices. Travis and his wife takes on the topic of etiquette in a casual and judgement free approach, especially from a non-neurotypical perspective (Travis has ADHD and both his brothers have anxiety disorders) and tackles breaking down trending news in Trends Like These to help people not be taken in by snappy sound bites. Sidney and Justin use humor and history to educate people about today's modern medicine, and take on medical myths and snake oil shills in Sawbones. Their place is humor, but their passion is helping, and the problems they see, they try to tackle whenever they recognize the opportunity to do so. They have fun and are funny, but that's only the surface. They all found their native niches in the cross-sections of humor, compassion, and education.
