One thing I appreciate about the Japanese Transformers series that doesn't get translated to Western Transformers is that the transformation sequences are treated like magical girl transformation sequences, complete with focuses on specific body parts and posing and bright, monochromatic backgrounds. Because that's totally how I feel whenever I transform any of the Transformers toys I have.
I mean, it would probably only be alt-to-robot in direction, the way that magical girl is always schoolgirl-to-magical-girl. Otherwise rigor morphis would be even creepier than it already is.

I picked up an unexpected amount of transformers lore from tumblr osmosis and very confusing fic, and then one thing followed another and my friend and I dared each other into a marathon of all the Bay films (god), and here I am. I never saw it at all as a kid and have still only read a couple of comics. Anyone else get into Transformers late or backwards? Are there any transformers novels, and are any of them any good?
There are novels but they're ridic expensive bc most of them are out of print, I'm still trying to get my hands on the ones I want. Welcome to hell, welcome to hell!
I hear tell the bayverse novelizations are better than the films in some ways and better than you'd expect, and i think there's at least one Transformers Prime novel that's supposed to be decent! But I'm not sure if those are by the standards of diehard transformers fans or by average reader standards :p (I got into it just a few years ago after having actively avoided it for over two decades :p I went via IDW's MTMTE comic => transformers prime => transformers animated => all of idw's comics, which worked nicely for a high-quality hook to get me invested, then backtracking through other more conventional material)
ohh no....... helltime..... culturally speaking I feel like project gutenberg shouldve gotten on this central bastion of human culture by now copyright or nay oh I didn't know there were film novelisations! I have already put too much effort into trying to interpret these films to be good in order to stop now, will have to try and find them. also I hear starscream is good in transformers prime??
: D ideal!! I literally only know him from fanworks and the wiki and his very deep and representative appearance in the films so I'm excited for the starscream experience tm
@Camber i only got into it a few years ago too, by my friend brandishing tfp at me (It's....so good....excellent designs... and Soundwave ) and now i have like ocs and am considering fanfic creation and all so heyyy late arrival fistbump!
@coldstars help Where's the ridiculously long pdf about the surprising (accidental?) amount of symbology and depth in the first three bayverse movies? I've been meaning to reread that anyways XD There are also movie tie-in comics, which i haven't totally consumed, because I enjoy bayverse designs more in motion than I do as drawings, but! They have tasty worldbuilding details, like explaining megatron's backstory, or covering the time while megatron was "dead" where Starscream went back to rule Cybertron, or...
