hello! wordy intro ahead. I'm having name trouble right now so Camber's fine but if you feel like making up/choosing a random name that's good too (if potentially confusing). I would say I'm pretty rusty at forums but that would imply I ever got the hang of them further than through warrior cats roleplay. In general I'm really into history, transformers, cool pirate shirts, folk & sea songs and joyful fanworks, and in specific right now I'm into medieval bestiary art (I'm doing a drawing thing for my doorframe), trying to sew cool historical gender-affirming clothing and making lemonade. mostly I just sit around being nervous about writing introductions though! Cool site concept, thanks for the easy-to-find intro threads.

thank you! :) ooh my favourite kind is like, the standard 18th c men's shirt (it's like this but sometimes the cuffs are longer & the chest slit is more obvious. also it's about mid-thigh length. this is not a great image in retrospect but the google image results are dominated by men in artfully unlaced shirts in the rain and this one does have a wig). for me it rates high on Drama and Sleeves, both key components of the pirate shirt. question: is jumping in to threads okay? I know it probs is but brain be like it is

thank you for the welcome! oh dear I really am fond of a few. may have heard them all already but: stan rogers' 'wreck of the athens queen' is a good time about drunken ship-scavenging, & his 'flowers of bermuda' is a good time about dying in a shipwreck (good to sing on long car journeys). learnt the mingulay boat song at Skye a few weeks ago - don't know if I like it because it's new but it is nice to sing! Alan Mills' version of Lady Franklin's Lament (called 'the franklin expedition' on spotify) is a good tune if you're into doomed arctic exploration :'P & of course 'don't forget your old shipmate'! very much the same to you r.e. song recs! I only just started going back to folk choir so I'm hankerin for tunes.
i don't have a lot of recs since i'm very new to the whole scene, the closest i have is Santiano (a German band, but some of their songs are in English too). not all that authentic as far as i know but they've got some catchy stuff. a friend recently recommended alestorm to me, if you're into the metal side of things, i haven't gotten around to actually listening to their stuff. (the song title "fucked with an anchor" is promising though.)
