Similar to our fanfic gripes and shipping gripes threads, but for fandom complaints and pet peeves that don't fall under their purview. Does the rest of your fandom completely misinterpret your fave? Are you sick of that one bit of fanon you hate constantly being treated like it's canon? Are you stuck with a canon full of interesting characters and dynamics and a fandom that only focuses on the most boring ones? Join us in whining about it! This thread currently brought to you by my perennial Tales of the Abyss fandom pet peeve: Spoiler: TotA spoilers People thinking Guy's foil among the God-Generals is Sync. No, Sync is Ion's foil. That much should be obvious! Guy's actual foil is Van. Come on now. I know Guy and Van don't get as much one-on-one focus as the rest of the pairs do because Van is the main villain, but even if you don't make that connection, Guy and Sync still have no thematic or narrative relevance to each other. Their only connection is a couple bits misdirection early on to disguise the real Sync twist—that he's an Ion replica—by making it seem like Guy recognizes his face because he knows him rather than because he looks identical to Ion. It's a red herring, not an indication that they're actually totally foils, you guys.
