Am I the only burlesque dancer here? *waves* Just performed my first show tonight! Went great, to say I'd not been on a stage since I was eleven.

I know very little about burlesque but it looks interesting! I'd love to hear more about it! :0

Well, I've been going to classes for chair dance for about a year or so now. Wow, time flies! I'm not actually all that good at it, because I'm very fat and my coordination is off, but the latter has improved sharply since I joined and the former's decreased a small but noticeable amount. Most of what we dance to is inoffensive pop, but we can pick our own music for the shows and have to choreograph our own stuff. I did "Circus Apocalypse"; I didn't actually remove more clothing than a skirt and had cycle shorts underneath, figured that was enough for the first time. It's definitely boosted my confidence a lot. This summer I wore shorts for the first time since before puberty! I'm already looking for music for the next show in February, and leaning towards a pirate costume with bright red undies and playing Nick Cave's "Fire Down Below". My shit-stirring side really really wants to dance to something terribly inappropriate like the Decemberists' "Shankill Butchers" or Nicole Dollanganger's "Have You Seen Me?"; probably can't get away with songs about rape, suicide, or non-supernatural murder in the shows, but I'm wondering how hard it would be to turn my living room into a stage set and make a YouTube channel out of it. Gorelesque is a known thing, I could totally do it!

I stole my stage name from a fanfic. It's "Sugarplum Fury", after the pet honey badger in CWCollateral.

I would absolutely check out your gorelesque videos if you decided to make them! :D

Not sure my flat is big enough but I can see if it works.

Hey, guys, I'd appreciate some input in picking a song for the February show! I decided to go with saucy because I don't do romantic except under very specific circumstances and I doubt the audience would appreciate murder ballads.
I really love this song but I doubt I have the figure to pull off the absolute territory look:

I had an idea for this song involving flashing bright red underwear on the final few repeats of the chorus, and I could get the audience to join in the chorus since it's only three words:

Also think I can make a good routine out of this:

I'd also really love to dance to Florence and the Machine's "Blinding" one day but I don't think I can pull it off right now.

Hmm, I'd say go for the one you have the most ideas for personally! I really like the Nick Cave idea, myself.

(Also, tangent, but GOD I wish they made more thigh-highs for those of us with big thighs! I adore them but none of the ones I've tried will go up over my thighs and it makes me sad.)

Thigh-highs go over my thighs, but my knees are so much thinner than my thighs that they won't stay up. So annoying! Maybe save that one for when I've dropped a couple pounds and go with the Nick Cave one for now. Mother's going on about how it's not very romantic and thus not appropriate for a February show but I HATE pretty much all love songs which are not inappropriately creepy and I reckon lewd is close enough.

That's pretty much the problem I have, actually...I can generally pull them over, but they won't!! Stay!! Up!! I wish plus-size ones were more readily available...

Garter belt might be an option?

Okay, turns out I can't use those because they're using a movie-and-TV theme >:( I don't know any good danceable songs from movies or TV. Maybe "It's Over, Isn't It" but I'm way too big to do convincing ballet moves.

Maybe one of the songs from the original Wicker Man. I could do awesome things with Fire Leap but it's a bit short.

Theme song from Sailor Moon? I can't pull off the skintight-fuku-and-miniskirt look though.

Ooh! Repo: The Genetic Opera! I could do some neat gorelesque with that. Maybe something slow to Chromaggia if I can figure out a fake eyeballs thing?

I decided to go with "We Put the Spring in Springfield"! Nan's putting together a costume, sister's doing my makeup, and I just ordered a grey wig.

Wish I could make a YouTube channel outta this but you're not allowed to put copyrighted music on the vids...
