Kiss With A Fist

The door swings open a few hours later, and the new head researcher walks out, gloved hands bloody up to the elbows as she stalks towards one of the lab sinks.

 

He glances up, looking her over, before going back to work.

 

She hits the water switch to the sink, washes her arms down and groans. "Ugh. What a mess "

 

He rolls his eyes, waiting to see if she lets him in on the details.

 

"Adler. Contact Director Q and inform him I'm requisitioning two new assistants and one each of sample agents of X-A214 and C-145B."

 

He glares. "Will you be returning my assistant?"

 

"You're my assistant, and I require his use. Once I have the new ones trained, I may decide they are sufficient, but you'll just have to wait and find out. The faster you follow orders, the faster we get on the road to results."

 

He snarls, teeth bared. "Understood."

So he's not dead. Not yet.

... Good.

 

"Hop to it," she strips off her coat, hanging it nearby and sweeping to the door.

 

"I am." He's sending an email already.

 

"Good. In the future, I hope you realize showing your face gets quicker results," she pulls the outer door shut with a thump.

 

He glares. He's not even sure what that's supposed to mean.

 

She's gone for an hour, then sweeps back in with a dark expression and a box with biohazard labelling under her arm.

 

He stares darkly at it, watching her walk through.

 

She pulls on gloves, then pushes the door open. Vanishing inside.

The rest of the day is quiet. The order has an incredibly fast turnaround, and Veronica steps out to get her new samples and assistants the moment they step through the door.

 

... Disturbing.

So she's powerful.

Anything about her has probably been wiped clean.

But he'll do his due diligence when he gets home.

Resentful about leaving the office.

 

The first thing that comes up is a facebook page, a few entries in an esteemed university paper... and then another few news articles.
