This didn't really seem to fit anywhere else. Please feel free to ignore. Dear "helpful" coworker, I don't know who taught you about mentoring. But they did not do a very good job. When you inform me of simple things that a first year graduate student already would know, you are insulting me. In general, your behavior is insulting and condescending. Not just to me but to many of our colleagues. We are adults and do not need to be upbraided in front of our coworkers like your five year old child might. Your attitude has made me cringe internally every time we need to interact and has done more to LOWER my confidence in my abilities than to help it. I would confront you and tell you this, but you control if I keep my job. So I am writing this letter instead and hoping that you won't just walk into my office and advice at me again tonight. Seriously, please stop. You are not helping. Me
