I don't make this decision and I'm unsure why you're quoting my post asking for the exact opposite.

Three buttons is less than seven????????

Because my response pertains to the thing you said.

If we have witness, like, and agree, we have three buttons. If we have witness, like, agree, and relatable, we have four. If we make a mashup we have three again. I´d prefer three buttons sans any mashups because mashups are a nightmare.

No need for a mashup, just make it "Yes".
  4. coldstars

    coldstars get Jazzy on it

Ah, and we'll lose all the funny/informative/winner ratings and subsequent jokes made thus far? Alas...the ephemeral nature of Internet life :')

But think of the confusing layers of archaeology any intrepid new explorers can dig back through, with no current information to give context to the jokes people are making in these other threads

I just realized a communication failure here I think. So to rectify that:
I realize and appreciate that mashups were intended as a compromise. It is unfortunate but not your fault that for me the compromise would actually be worse than doing things your way entirely. Just competing needs sucking.

I think "agree" and "relatable" are pretty different. I mean, it's not quite in the territory of "please bear my children or impregnate me/please die in a fire" being presented as a single button, but they're definitely different kinds of things, I think? Like, if someone says "I feel worthless", consider the massive gap between "agree" and "relatable".

if you can adjust the ratings based on subforum, clearly you should just add a "seebs no" button for TSM in particular.

Yes. So different I figured context would inform.

It might if everyone involved is in the right state of mind but I think there's sufficient potential to kickstart unfun spirals by somone hitting the Agree button on something selfloathing in, say, a vent thread when they meant a perfectly innocent #relatable, that I think it might be a bad idea to join these two into a single button?

Probably. But I find it important to have both and I do not see any other compromise.

    Another button.
I personally don't care about having a relatable button so you´l have to argue that on your own, but potentially triggering someone with a mashup button and making both terms unusable for people is not a compromise.

Okay, so the question was "why not just have more than one button" and I think the answer is "because ensuing conflict".

I'm not sure how to address this. The two that seem most crucial are "Like" and "Witnessed", and specifically those two because the second eliminates a confusing use of the first. All the others are at least somewhat optional; we were at least basically doing okay without a way to express them just by pushing a button.

Also, "Hugs" and "Funny" are gone. Because they are both clearly particularly subject to people being upset by them, whether intentionally or otherwise.

Find Agree useful because I can differentiate "I have seen this post" from "I like or witness this post" Everything else I can live without.

I thought only three buttons was acceptable to you.

It is. I would find Agree WITHOUT a completely different meaning mushed on, Like, and Witness acceptable. I do not find a mashup button acceptable. I would also find adding a relatable button acceptable, but others would not.
