Hello thread, I just marathoned this whole series in about a weekend and am now rewatching bc I missed the miniseries the first time around! I have both feelings and emotions! *flails* Does Church remind anyone else of Karkat Vantas?
People on plurk just blew my mind. Spoiler So, the Freelancers are all named after the 50 US states, yes? And then they've got the Counselor and the Director. Director Church. D.C.
so as of yesterday, rvb's 15th season is upon us! unfortunately RT is back to doing its thing where the eps are FIRST-members-only for a full week before they're released to the general public :c Spoiler: s15 e1 i really like dylan! also, there has been much theorizing on tumblr on whether or not the "reds and blues" in this episode are actually impostors. the biggest thing that points to them not being impostors is that frog timer, which was beautiful. other than that... well, given the lack of dialogue/bickering (that we could hear), the ruthlessness, the actual competency (who would give real!caboose a bomb and expect that to go smoothly?)... my money's on impostors! but either way this should be interesting :U
HEY SO HOW ABOUT THAT NEW SEASON SO FAR. HOW ABOUT THAT MOST RECENT EPISODE if anyone here was putting off their free First trial like me, let me advise you: now is a really good time to use it
man this season so far has been great! especially in these latest 2 episodes Spoiler: episode 5 like holy shit that montage was probably the funniest thing yet this season, that was Amazing and Spoiler: episode 6 i was laughing so much at Sarge's crusade against the "white team," lopez going "tumblr will hate this," and so forth. but then... grif.... :C i mean like, i get it. but also.... :C (tho it's interesting as grif is almost being a fandom mouthpiece - i know i've read "let church stay dead" in at least a dozen different posts) and simmons didn't say anything, just watched... you're ripping up my heart here, and i actively try not to get too invested in grimmons from a canon perspective because like fuck will it ever be canon. (i liked the bit about the temple of procreation last episode but it feels like being given table scraps.) but this episode... :c i'm sure that this won't be the last we see of grif, but. wow.
Spoiler: episode 5 first/third church! FIRST/THIRD CHURCH! PLEASE GIMME THE FIRST/THIRD CHURCH! FIRST/THIRD CHURCH! (yes, my numbers are probably off 'cause of all the other ai's and director that are also technically church and church has died multiple times, but alpha and epsilon are the only two/three (???) ai's that actually get referred to as church.) Spoiler: i talk to myself (and damn i'm tempted by episode 6. but... what if i have even less patience in 2018, when season 16 [holy shit!] comes along? what fucking if? or what if, in 2019, i have entirely forgotten the concept of patience? or, if in 2020, my patience fucks the hell off?) (later. later. there is always a fucking later.)
i looked and the subscription's cheap so... what the hell! i got it! not just the free trial, a subscription after it's done! Spoiler: episode 6 okay... wow... grif... my feels... i don't know whether i'm upset with him for not wanting church back, or sad that he left. probably both. and damn, red vs blue put quite the hard-hitting lampshades (tv tropes meaning) on itself there, about how church always comes back and questioning it. fuck, i probably shouldn't feel guilty for wanting the church revival thing but i do now. even though rooster teeth chose to make it a potential thing and i am not doing shit to make it happen. if it happens, if it doesn't... either way, it won't be my fault. but i feel guilty regardless... grif, sans... why are the lazy ones so great at making me guilty for how i interact with media? godfuckingdammit. this was not at all what i expected.
Spoiler: ep. 6 I am so, so hyped for Grif to be getting a character arc. I'm really excited for them to get into his deeper reasons for not wanting to fight or get involved in anything and for projecting his lazy persona. When he had the line about not wanting to shoot people or be shot at anymore I got so excited, it's so promising for what they might do with his character. I am really hoping we get some more backstory for him as well. Actually, it's not just a character arc for Grif, it's for the whole Red team. They're finally getting some bullshit of their own! Blue team had to do a lot of work in the Chorus arc to come to the kind of unity, trust, and friendship they have now, and Red team has kind of ridden on those coattails without ever undergoing any similar internal struggle to hash out their many conflicts. I'm also really happy that Carolina seems to have found her place on the team! It warmed my heart to see her taking part in their shenanigans in ep. 5. (I'm convinced that she absolutely knows she can't sing, and was just trolling the hell out of Grif and Tucker.) And then in ep. 6 she was still the same old in-charge Carolina, but she clearly knows and trusts them all and fits in! I'm so proud :')
I'd also like to thank rvb for providing us with a supremely relevant reaction image this week Spoiler: vague ep. 6 spoilers
Spoiler: episode 6, a sad thought i am currently bracing myself for the possibility that we won't actually get church back, since someone on youtube said that church's message might have just have been them receiving one of his old ones real late, and in the freelancer arc, the point was made that letting go of tex was good for church and thus, by extension, maybe this arc is about getting the reds and blues and viewers to accept that church is 100% dead now. i'm hoping that he actually will come back but it also feels painfully clear that it is not actually a confirmed thing, that i really should not count my churches before they're hatched.
Spoiler: episode 7 simmons misses grif... and the talk about death... caboose believing that people come back to life if you love them enough... my feels... i am once again suspended between dread and anticipation wow okay the ominous guy was not at all what i expected and the imposters have knock off names. serge, temple...
