What's the strangest thing you've done for the love of Homestuck?

So I mentioned my gangstastuck!postGame!futurestuck!fantroll!AU in another thread (I actually have two stories for the AU, and while they are technically in the same verse, one is more polished and thought out ahead of time while the longer one is just 'Borny writes porn with a smidgen of plot and lots of world building and finds it enjoyable'), but another thing I've done is create a bare-bones but still pretty significantly detailed dice-based game. For the same futurestuck, gangstastuck, fantroll AU.

I started with 12 families from the canon castes, randomized ages and family size, made a bunch of rules, and built a few buildings in a minecraft world to help me visualize and because Nerd. There are four gangs thus far. Only two or three of the original family units still have the original matesprits still together because I also have chance-based things where it is optional to have one of them gain a positive or negative social point with someone else in their relative age group and depending on those I make or break quadrants. Also, funnily enough, gangs kill people. Shocking, right? Of the original group of teens I think one is still living. Oddly, only one of the ADULTS who was in a gang for years died only a month or so ago. I guess the old dudes have experience on their side. Also this is an AU where trolls are oviparous (I am certain I didn't spell that right but it didn't give me a red squiggly and now I'm concerned) so there has been quite a grub-boom. I've gotten most people on birth control now (although I keep forgetting to make them pay for it so I've decided the government covers it) but for reasons known only to me (and my cruel, cruel ways) the control only works on trolls 18 or older. Even though they become fertile at 16. It's only a 1/6 chance of getting preggers though, so about half have managed to stay kidless...even if their quadrants have not. Yeah, I don't have it so they only have kids with their spade or heart, it's completely up to chance! I'll change that once the next 'year' begins since I built new things including single family homes instead of apartments, cuz hormones are a pain (never said I was a benevolent goddess) but once they have a little more space I think they'll start having a higher chance of having grubs with their conspicuent partner. (I don't think i spelled that right either ahh :( )

Anyway, it's been fun (for me, I like those kind of games, though they are a little tedious and math is involved but math is my friend normally). And ridiculous. And fun.

So go ahead and put your stuff below, especially if it's off the path more travelled! And if you want to see what I've got for my game (it's been about a year and a half, i go by weeks, though I can't remember how many weeks I put in a year, and I'm also not sure why i don't call them months) just ask and I'll shove it in a spoiler box (or five) so it doesn't take hours to scroll past. If you're curious about the AU in general you can ask about that too!

And if there's already a thread for this kind of thing I'm sorry o.o

I began constructing a Tolkienian world of myths and religions based around the cosmology of Homestuck. It's basically been a years long world building adventure with two attempts at writing texts that actually exist in the world I am writing about. Sadly history is the bit that is lacking most. I do have several myths sketched out, though details change about quite a lot. As well as varying perspectives of those myths. There are multiple religions and multiple sects of those religions in this world after all. I've also worked on the basics of element systems, some cultural blah, and so on. A few holidays and such have been pointed out. Language will need to be tackled at some point. I've also worked out some basics on a few of the cultures in the world and their general relations with the others.

The basic idea started as my wanting an epic poem of Homestuck. But I wanted it to be like. A poem that existed in a world wherein this poem had real religious significance. Which led to the creation of a myth. Namely the story of the Woegoth Rose Lalonde, the Seer of Light, who saved the human kingdom of Prospit from the dreaded Alternian Empress Her Imperious Condescension. Which then led to the story of the Dread Pirate Mindfang and the stories of the various Maryam trolls. Which led to the story of Porrim Maryam, Mother of the Halfbreeds. Which led to the issue of race and human-troll hybrid relations throughout the world. And in the end we have trolls being deathly afraid of sheep to the point where they will not raise them nor use wool products or eat lamb while the humans scoff at the trolls' crazy 12 element system. And this is all so I can have context for like. One fucking story.

This isn't strange in the actual execution - people doing fantroll RPs is not strange. Obviously. But... it's still kind of just blowing my mind how quickly we fell down the rabbit hole.

So about three months ago, my wife was getting really into this Homestuck fanfiction she was working on - a sort of glitched-game AU where the kids and the trolls are all now young adults going about their lives increasingly confused by bits of game mechanics leaking through and oh yeah the vanguard hive ship fulla trolls is attacking Earth now. Yay. And she asked me if I'd help her make up some profiles for other trolls on that hive ship, just so she'd have some names and descriptions to throw around, and maybe ideas of different motives or background politics going on on the hive ship.

Three months and a cumulative 236,078 words later, we've got three-four branches of backstory threads going in addition to the monster main one, with 30+ trolls created, and we can't stop writing. We wrote 16,127 over the past two days covering about a three-hour in-universe time period that includes a space pirate attack and surprise!emergency!palefling afterwards. There are so many trolls.

Is this how this normally works for people? I kinda wanna blame it on my spergy brain but my nonspergy wife is just as into it as I am.

@Void I would say that fandom tattoos count as awesome in all circumstances. Strangeness depends on what the tattoo depicts/symbolizes/refers to, and I think that would vary on who you ask XD

@Aondeug and @Kit those both sound awesome, and I applaud you two! I wish I had enough time to go through and make my various projects more organized and stuff but I haven't had the time :(

The spirograph? That doesn't sound weird at all, it's pretty and it allows other Stuckers to recognize one of their own XD and it's vague enough that people won't look at it and be like 'omg NEEEEERD'
Unless that's the reaction you're going for. In which case you may need to go all the way and just tattoo a troll on yourself somewhere :3

If you're asking about my fic I deleted it and I've no idea where my roughest drafts are. I was upset with the thing. I might start again on the project, perhaps in a different form. But the fic as it stood is gone.

Oh. I forgot the weirdest one of them all. So after perusing through a few Homestuck polytheist blogs I found that there was quite the lack of people devoted in particular to the Handmaid. Which made me sad and also didn't make sense to me because why wouldn't you want to offer her things? I pondered leaving her things because I felt bad about that and also because she reminds me of my gods and the ungods in ways. She could be a fantastic fae.

    There's....there's polytheist homestuck blogs O.o

That sounds frightening, trolls are dicks XD but I can see why they exist.

And why doesn't the Handmaid get more attention, she's badass and in a really sad position, pretty much a slave to Lord Douche-a-Lot, I'd give her offerings and stuff if I was into that. :(

There are Homestuck polytheists and those polytheists have blogs yes. Others just do Homestuck themed magic. The whole worshiping and venerating fictional characters thing has quite the long and storied history, actually. It's just a thing that humans seem to do. The Monkey King stands out to me most in this regard.

And yeah trolls are dicks though I can see why people would make offerings to some of them at least. The Dolorosa makes a lot of sense, for example. And there is the Handmaid like I said which makes a lot of sense to me. Enough so that I've seriously considered making offerings to her.

The kids get offerings and such too from what I've seen. It's a sort of hero worship, similar to people making offerings to CĂș Chulainn. Some of the polytheists have what are basically holidays as well. Birthdays and wriggling days of the various characters are big things. As are the start of the constellations various reigns. There is the Festival of Captor, as an example, which marks the reign of Gemini. I'm not sure how wide spread these days are though they are mentioned on a few different polytheist blogs, homestuck specific or no.

As long as no one starts sacrificing their buddies to any of them :/

(Seriously how did that happen, what is humanity)

  17. Aondeug

Aondeug Cringe Annoying Ass Female Lobster

I highly doubt that'll happen. They're pretty harmless as are most pop culture polytheists from what I can tell. If you should be worried about anyone it's clearly my ilk. We'll tear you apart for shitty research and punch you if given provocation. Rah rah war gods! MY GODS ARE OF BLOOD AND DEATH, SUNKEN SHIPS AND THE DROWNED, ROTTING FLESH AND BONES PICKED CLEAN.

Jokes about Irish reconstructionist polytheism aside, really this is just a normal human thing. And I don't really think there's much odd or silly about it. It happens because this is just what we do. We see the divine in a lot of things.

If you're curious shrines to the trolls at least from what I've seen consist of making little themed altars. Bowls are set out to receive offerings and items related to or that represent the particular trolls and aspects are left out. That or things that the individual feels that the entity would like. A Megido shrine I saw had a watch on it as one example. Offerings in polytheistic practices and paganism tend to be food, drink, devotional art, and various bits and bobs like dice or coins. I've not heard of live animal sacrifices in the Homestuck polytheists though so long as they reached certain standards I wouldn't have issue with it. It would never factor into my practice but eh.

That's really neat and reminds me of Asuka's demonstuck AU. To 'pay' a Megido one would break a clock, John wore leather bonds around his wrists for Equius, Rose had to give up specific words (imagine being unable to use the word 'and'. Demon-Kankri is a genius) and was only allowed to masturbate like once a week for Kankri's 'price' (they had to come to an agreement on that one, he wanted her completely abstinent and Rose was like "nope!")

I think there was one person, not a main character, but while working with life demons for years she paid them by basically having 6 kids.

I kind of got off topic, but. And I'm very new to the idea of making up things to worship, I've kind of been doing it for a year or two but I didn't realize anyone else did. Well, anyone sane, anyway.

There's quite a lot of new religious movements and people who worship new things. I can't recall the exact tag people use on tumblr for new gods but there are people who honestly worship Bullshiticus and whoever that coffee goddess is.

I'm not surprised by the coffee one at all. And Bullshiticus? :D that's wonderful.
