In other news, I happened upon a video that was advancing the premise that theme parks are safe because they aren't regulated. This would be... unique, to say the least. I suspect there are significant flaws in the 'amusement parks aren't regulated' idea, but it's not really something I know that much about. It's possible that since most ride manufacturers seem to be in Europe that they have regulations?

 

Oh no, I've been binge watching rollercoaster videos for weeks now and thrill rides are definitely regulated to hell and back, b/c the general public doesn't care who manufactured or operated a ride that injured people - - every accident is bad for the whole industry. Maybe they got confused b/c IIRC there's no federal oversight, but rather international oversight.

 

The idea that theme parks aren't regulated sounds like a misunderstanding of how they work on a level with this book.

There are no Star Wars movies. It's a series of books about genetically engineered space marines being adopted en masse by a cranky fuck.

 

I almost never want to hug people, but now I can't, I do, and it's making me sad :(

 

So a thing happened that I have no idea how to feel about, or if I should have a feeling about it, other than "huh, that's weird."

Read a book, wrote a fanfiction, finished the fanfiction. Book is eventually going to be part of a series but right now only has one installment. My fanfic is the only one on AO3 atm for that fandom. Fanfic has an OC in it. Author of actual book just released names, pictures, and brief descriptions of four more side characters that are going to be cannon in future books. One of whom has the same name as the OC.

I just. It's coincidence. It's definitely coincidence. Cannon Connor looks nothing like OC Connor, they have different jobs, different backgrounds, and the author has explicitly stated he's not going to interact with fanfiction of his work. But what are the fucking chances?

 

Wait fuck I just realized another OC from the fanfic shares a name with one of the released new characters.

 

That is frickin' weird! In your position, I'd totally be going "omg the author read my fic!"--all evidence to the contrary be damned.

One alternative explanation? You're just that in-sync with the author's naming preferences. You might be able to predict even more future character names.

 

I'm really thinking it's this, because a third character released at the same time was named Sol, and his description is "Capitalist Elf." In a completely different, modern fantasy d&d based universe I have an extraordinarily wealthy elf named... Sol. If they both live in New York I'm going to, quite frankly, lose my goddamned mind.

The fourth character from that set is named Rafael. I have a few characters from various things with classically angelic names, but none named that, specifically. So I'm 3 for 4 so far.

 

Normally yes I would be going like that, but the second character who shares a name won't be introduced for another four chapters. The whole thing is written, but I haven't posted it all yet because update schedules and all that. Andy is a side character who only has screen time in chapters 11, 12, and the epilogue.

My sister and I recreated some old pictures as a present for our mom; hopefully she likes them! It is hard to be stealthy while doing them when you're all living in the same space and there's a lockdown.

 

I'm picking up some giant-monster-action novels on Amazon - I'm curious what they're like, since I always thought that would work better in a visual medium.
