I kinda want to run a Hiveswap fic exchange but this is the first time I've been in an exchange as a participant. Slow down, self.

I don't know where else to put this, so if it needs moved that's fine, but I caught this clip of chowder on YouTube and I was hoping for some insight? It makes me uncomfortable for reasons I can't quite pin down and feels racist somehow but I don't know to who. It's from an episode called the arborians:

hey, I’m in Boston for the next 2 days! I haven’t been here in years! can anyone recommend places me and my sibling should hit up while we’re here? I’m assuming most of the tourist stuff is out of commission or I’d probably be spending most of my time at the aquarium.

Americans: do any of you peeps have an explanation for a very confused European on why the microwave is so often over the stove in American kitchens?

When the microwave became common amongqwealthy families here there wasn't a general place in the kitchen to slot it in and putting it on the counter top took up room, and Americans are big on maximizing counter space. So those families started to have specific microwave shelves added and the easiest place for them to also have room to ventilate was over the stove. (Stoves with microwaves built in often have the fan built into the microwave and there's lower clearance to the hood so you can actually reach into the micro.) Then people wanted to emulate the wealthy so houses started being built that way. It's almost exclusively houses built in the 90s or sooner that have that feature, and often mostly in the suburbs ime. Everywhere else you put the micro on the counter.

Modern houses are starting to move away from that, too! My mom’s house, built in 2019, has the microwave essentially as its own drawer under the counter. It took me a long time to find it when I was trying to microwave my breakfast last Christmas.

I forgot how much I like driving late at night. My work app was down for the dinner shift so I ended up working the late night and it’s been a nice change of pace.

ever since my meds were upped I’ve been in a major art and writing rut and it’s driving me bonkers. My usual methods aren’t working and I just don’t feel inspired or interested even if the desire is there. My usual inspirations just depress me and I can’t focus on the starting for shit.

what are some methods you’ve used before to get out of that deep kind of rut? asking for a friend but the friend is me sitting on your floor at midnight with a can of soda and a snack nearby in offer of my thanks for advice

@TheMockingCrows Well I’d definitely talk to the doctor about it. That’s medically relevant information.

In the meanwhile, I’d say let yourself do anything that does catch your interest, even if it doesn’t feel as productive. Punishing yourself for what you can’t do right now doesn’t do anything but compound the misery. If you can watch trashy documentaries and that’s it, go forth and watch that trash.

You could also test out alternate art avenues that might be different and less Official Art seeming enough to give you more slack mentally. Crayons, dry erase markers (maybe even on windows or mirrors), chalk, stick scribbles in dirt or sand, colored gel icing tubes on whatever food you think needs more fun, heckin bath crayons.

Yeah, suddenly losing interest in things you love is a sign of depression. Talk to your doc. Verily's suggestions look good, and maybe find a drawing prompts list so you don't have to spend the mental effort to come up with ideas?

I find the OurHome app easier to stick to than Habitica. When I got all the available prizes in Habitica I felt like I'd "won" and lost all interest in it. OurHome lets you spend points on repeatable things in real life, which helps me keep my sugar intake lower because I have to "earn" it.

I know I don't have to come up with an entire conlang to write the My Hovercraft Is Full Of Eels trope, but it's very tempting because it'd help me keep the errors made consistent!

playing vengablood out the window at the porch smokers below isn't working to drive them off. is this because my phone's volume is too low or because vengablood isn't annoying enough? what song would you least like to hear looping passive aggressively above you if you were trying to have a peaceful 3 AM porch cigarette directly below someone's fucking window?

I really hope I didn't wake anyone up, I went into the next room and the sound from my phone was not too audible so I think it should be fine but still anxiety -_-

Man, I did not recognize which song Vengablood is, and I know now it's because I keep avoiding listening to it.
