Yeah, I think you're missing a major fourth category, set earlier in the timeline, of "Obito doesn't wind up going batshit for whatever reason." (Which is the category my fic is in.) Lots of crossover with time travel in that category, but not all of it is.
Something to the gist of, there are spies and literally animal moles, but no time travel responsible for the differences. I think I was trying to make a joke, but I don't remember what was supposed to be funny in it. It was very late/early.
I just realized sakura haruno and sasuke uchiha are viable troll names, and I think naruto uzmaki is a suitable substitute for homestuck shenanigans. Now to think of a way to fit jinchruuki and kyubii concepts into troll culture...
alternian colony that wend Weird. jinchurriki are like fef's horroterror mom but slightly less powerful (maybe one whole horrorterror between them even without going into kaguya bs). nart (or maybe jinchuuriki in general)is a mix of feferi and eridin's roles in society (managing the Huge Monster but also befriending it. not quite a prince but def Scary) i imagine sakura being in the jade-teal caste range. civilianish but well off and well educated. sasuke in that seadweller range between gamzee and eridan (some potential parallels between "madness" of sharingan and seadweller bs). nart is...orange? oooooh! maybe all of the jinchuurki are ones with psychic powers idealy suited to managing these "lesser" beasts that are one part natural disaster one part lusus. like a partially flipped caste system. the biju aren't the "royal beast" so its a lower ranking job but still scary so require power and control in the eyes of society so people get pissy when the biju are not being managed to their liking tl;dr shit sorry you crossed the special interests streams and i did a ramble
oooh, I like that! To cross the streams further: maybe vriska is an as described jinchuurki in this world? There'd probably be less "I have a literal monster inside me" and maybe more a mind meld sort of deal? I'm imagining a shukaku-like spidermom constantly whispering in vriska's head about needing children to be sustained. Also, wanna move this to the crossover thread? I'm definitely past "vague thought" now :D
quarantine has made me so bizarrely nostalgic, its absurd part of that entailed me revisiting both early-season naruto, which i watched religiously in middle school. i would sneak into the family computer room at, like, 2 AM and watch fansubs until dawn. this was in the old days of youtube where there was a length limit on videos, so the episodes would be cut up into like 5 or 6 minute chunks. good times. i would spend all of homeroom dreaming up fanfiction in my head. i also started rewatching hunter x hunter (the 2011 one, 1999 seems to have sadly been purged from the internet). i remember reading once that kishimoto based sasuke off of kurapika from hxh and honestly i buy it--red eyes, aloof personality, dead family. plus all the similarities between the hunter exam arc and the chunin exam arc, and the fact that a lot of togashi's work in the 90s really defined the future of shonen as a genre. but now i'm cracking myself up by imagining that sasuke's arc followed kurapika's arc instead of...what actually happened. sasuke stops answering his phone, gets super tired of everything, and then just buys a gun.
also i will go to the mat arguing that sakura's fight against the sound ninja in the chunin exam arc is one of the best shonen fight scenes of all time justice for sakura tbh
ok so im writing a nart fic and i had to do some research, and i found out something. everyone talks about narutos training trip like some grand adventure that he was super psyched to go on, but... turns out, he really, really didn't want to go. like, argued with jiraiya for a good bit, and the only reason he gave in was because jiraiya essentially said "either you leave or the akatsuki comes here and kills everyone you love" and, uh. taken with that? not a mission, wasn't paid for it, wasn't even really trained (jiraiya got the ame trio to push S-rank in like, maybe a year or two longer than he was with naruto. no way am i buying a B-rank, maaaaybe A-rank naruto coming out of one-on-one training with him.). you know what that sort of shit sounds like to me? involuntary exile, with a minder to make sure he doesn't come back or lose konoha their biju. banishment. imagine if naruto had ever made that connection, how fucking heartbroken he'd be. and when he came back, he'd always have that lingering doubt... how long til they decide to get rid of him again? how long will they send him away for? will they even let him come back next time? will anyone speak out in his favor? did anyone the first time? i think, more than any amount of abuse the villagers piled on him, this would be the worst thing to ever happen to naruto. because with the villagers, he knows damn well how they feel about him. they've been trying to get rid of him since literally day one. jiraiya? that early, they hadn't become family to each other yet, naruto literally had to seduce the man into teaching him, there's no way that would even register as betrayal in naruto's mind. his classmates? the kid loves them to hell and back but other than chouji and shikamaru, none of them were close to naruto even if they admired him, and i bet you anything he'd just write it off as getting his hopes up. chouji and shikamaru were just academy friends, he had barely even seen them for six months and didn't even seem to notice. but tsunade? tsunade was the first, and at that time only, person to directly support him, to fight for him, to save him, to show more than passing affection to him. that perceived betrayal would ruin him.
just read this and gonna leave it here for Reasons Spoiler: x the Reasons have to do with my neverending rage at Kishi's shit storytelling decisions and canon in general when little teenybopper fans figured out Sasuke was the REAL protag without having the words or experience to explain it, this article just makes it that much more apparent (although i could also see an argument for Kakashi to be the "true" protag from the focus he gets in the later story) (...poor nart gets no love)
i saw this Spoiler: possibly large images and all i could think of was "konoha's first round of jounin vests, as designed by hashirama, with tobirama in mind"
I'm looking at the examples they gave and I'm. so confused. Good Omens only got centralized on Crowley and Aziraphale in the TV adaptation and in the books it's a full ensemble piece, also, Missing the Point if you think that Adam's problem is the big problem emotionally. The apocalypse is a backdrop to feelings. Sam obviously isn't the main character of Lirael, is it his fucking name on the cover. and I don't even go to Lovecraft country but it's another case of the article author really transparently missing the point of "emotional stakes are not always the same thing as the literal stakes, and the emotional stakes are what we care about." I genuinely don't think they understand any kind of narrative structure beyond the most transparent "defeat the bad guys and get the girl." LIKE. "a side character is doing something more interesting" and their example is talking about the villain?!? Of course the villain is doing interesting things, that's... what do you think villains do? They're here to cause problems on purpose.
*shrug* i kinda ignored the examples since most of them were for things i either already didn't like anyway or things i haven't read/seen i was mostly just using the points themselves in regards to shitty ninjas not really interested in it more than in that context
OH BOY So with the amount of naruto fanfic i read its no surprise i get a lot of naruto related article suggestions on my news feed. Some of them are dumb, some not, but. I saw this fucking article link today and im PISSED. Like, fuck you??? Who says end game happy ending always has to be starting a family, especially for women? It's bullshit is what it is: Spoiler: Big pic
Modern day uchiha police force x sasuke running wild on snapchat equals comedy gold: Spoiler: Big pics Art by x
Consider: why tf is sakura/sasuke even a thing when sakura/ino makes so much more sense? If you're about to say "but they hate each other's guts and are rivals" then why is sasuke/naruto (also good) so popular? I mean sure i might be pushing my own agenda but the chemistry is there
guys guys we fucked up its the hidden leaf in the land of fire. the reason the plot depends on everyone being unobservant and incompitent is that everyone is because theyre fucking high all the time konoha's main export? weed. hokage smokes? its weed. everyone has an affinity for fire? to smole weed. first hokage so powerful with plant magic? nah son he just made enough weed to go around
