Do you mean tablet or whatever you call it? I've only had that once when I went to Oban a few years ago, and I've always wanted to try making it for myself...

Nah, I'm referring to a very old practise of pouring leftover porridge into a special tin lined dresser drawer and leaving it to set, which would be cut and taken as snacks. Tablet is mostly pure sugar (butter, milk, condensed milk, sugar; boiled to soft ball stage, 120°C). It's pretty easy to make on the stovetop.

There was a slight misunderstanding of tablet earlier this year...

All of them are yucky. I do not understand cereal.

Muesli/granola I can get behind. Only ever with yoghurt though :D

    genuine question

if you meal prep, how do you stop from being incredibly bored and unsatisfied with eating the same damn thing for multiple meals? apparently there are people out there eating the same breakfast 7 days a week 364 days a year (I presume festival-day breakfast to be a special thing) and yet I can't have my coffee served the same way twice in a row without my brain screaming about the lack of novelty and how boring I'm being

i would like to understand if this is another ADHD thing or if im just perpetually dissatisfied

At least for me it's a routine based thing. It's the same thing every day so I'm happy because it's the same thing every day. The meal prep itself is also a routine and I like having to do my routine. Helps keep my week blocked out just right and everything in place just right. Occasionally I'll change the routine and switch to different meals. Like one year all my school breakfasts were chorizo and eggs. Another year it was always porridge in milk with honey and some salt. Which helps with the occasional grumblings from the brain about wanting a different routine. I honestly get rather pissy about my routine being thrown off.

I'm not really sure how like allistics who aren't all about eating the same thing every day for that good brain feel deal with it, though.

As long as it's something I reasonably like, I would eat the same thing three meals a day and not be bothered if I wasn't consciously aware and reminding myself that no one food provides all the different vitamins and shit I need.

Otherwise, catch me inside eat a can of spaghettios for every meal for the rest of forever how bout dat

I definitely get sick of things

My dad is probably autistic and eats the same breakfast for years (aside from special occasions like xmas)

Compromise: make like 3 breakfasts to rotate

I sometimes get sick of things if we have them a lot for a long time. Three days in a row of the same breakfast isn’t likely to bug me, but the same pasta once a week for a month might? It’s weird and I’m probably explaining badly.

I also like having a routine meal, but we often can't afford the same ingredients for things every time we shop and definitely live around sales and price cuts. I also have some health issues that require me not to be eating loads of one type of food. Breaking a routine itself is highly stressful for me so I usually have an Occasion Food instead, and make up qualifiers to get to eat it.

It's very overly complicated but it works for me *shrug*

I tend to eat the same thing for breakfast every day, but changing on a rotation of a couple weeks or months. So like I'll have granola for a month, then fried eggs for a couple months, then ramen for a while, etc.

I get bored of the same thing often so usually when I meal prep I make three or four different dishes at once. This is a bit of an energy suck but I only do it every two or three weeks, and then I have some limited choices. I also tend to only meal prep lunch and dinner so I can insert variety via breakfast and tend to keep supplies for one simple meal on hand when I'm sick of even the variety.

for me (autistic and digestive disorder, so food is kinda fraught) i don't mind eating the same thing a few days in a row, but more than maybe say 3-4 days in a row and i'm ready for something new. (i do like making something and leaving the leftovers so i can have it for breakfast the next day especially)

so what i do is i tend to bulk cook several large meals over a month, eat what i want to eat that night, and freeze most of the rest in portion sizes. so i'll have three or four things in the freezer, and between that on high-spoons days i'll make something that doesn't freeze well or makes fewer servings for variety.

I’ve been making salads for breakfast for months and months now. I’m not bored because it’s routine, but also because there’s so many ingredients that it’s hard to feel bored about them. Sometimes they change a little, like there’s mushrooms or different mushrooms or sprouts. But even so, it’s just really challenging to not find something interesting in a salad that has at least ten ingredients in multiple food groups. The first bite doesn’t taste like the last bite.

So this isn't quite the place for this, but i figured it was as good as i can get. This is an out of context snippet i grabbed from a fic and im very confused, can some people really smell ice cream? A little context, the character in question is walking into a market but was not previously looking for ice cream

Im highly sceptical seeing as cold things tend to dull taste and smell, and there'd be no steam coming off it. So, just very mistaken author or are there magic ice cream sniffers ive never heard of?

I mean, if it's still in the box/carton/tub/whatever and inside like, the freezers in a supermarket behind the doors and everything, that *aisle* smells like ice cream vaguely when I'm in (but mostly a general Commercial Freezer smell but sometimes depending) but I don't walk into the grocer's and immediately smell the ben & jerry's from the front entrance.

If it's out like at an ice cream shop or stall though, yeah, I can smell it.

@Artemis could you describe the smell? Do different flavors smell different from each other, or is there a distinct like, Dairy Smell i seem unable to pick up?

  20. Acey

Huh, thinking about it, I'm not sure I've ever really smelled ice cream itself? There's a definite specific odor to ice cream parlors that's difficult to describe, but it's subtle and I think it's more the smell of refrigeration than anything else, if that makes sense (maybe because of the aforementioned dulling of senses? idk man).

The context definitely makes it more confusing, though. Personally, I don't think I'd notice the commercial freezer/ice cream smell if I had just walked into the market--unless the section is what you enter through, which would probably be unlikely tbh. But I'm not everyone, and I might just not be able to distinguish it myself?
