Does it need to be a complete fic? I think I have a couple bookmarked that I enjoy but are incomplete and seemingly abandoned, so.
I'd personally say it doesn't need to be complete, but definitely mention if it's not, particularly if it seems to be abandoned.
on the off chance you haven't, I recommend looking through the akatsukiba author's other works and bookmarks. they write a LOT and are fond of side characters and obscure pairings!
Satori (Between the Lines) by jaylene Sakura-centric but set during the academy with a lot of focus on the other kids in her class, especially Shino and Torune, who isn't in their class, but is a major character. I Knew a Girl With Copper Veins by Katlou303 dango by chadsuke Hinata/Tenten Ain't no princess in this tower by atomicmuffin ANd i am tired of sifting through my bookmarks for fics that are not focused on Sakura, Tobirama, or team seven. But here's a few!
i did! i found some good stuff there too, but i have to admit, some of the characters were TOO side, lol. i stopped keeping up with naruto during shippuden, after most of the akatsuki members had been revealed but before the founding of konoha/moon(??) stuff. so occasionally as i was reading through the summaries and pairings i was like "wait...who is that??" and @Jean thank you so much!! i actually love sakura stuff too (inosaku is a fave) but she's a bit easier to find in the tags than e.g. kiba and tenten. i will check all of these out!
Here's a fic with sakura on team 8 and hinata on team 7, can't remember if its completely sakura centric but it does have sakura with a completely original doujutsu, and i believe its the one where she comes from a samurai family. Gets kinda ooc as their characters develop differently, but its very fun https://archiveofourown.org/external_works/219523
Alrighty, went and checked my bookmarks, looks like I only bookmarked a two that focus on teams other than Team 7, both being fics where Naruto was put in a different team. One fic I haven't read for something like a decade, so I can't make any guarantees as to its quality or content warnings, so I'm not gonna bother linking right now. The other I have read more recently, and it's the one I meant. Team 8 by S'TarKan: the premise starts with Kurenai, who lost her original team years ago in suspicious circumstances, wanting to be sure whatever team she trains can survive - so she intervenes with the selection process, convincing the Hokage to swap a couple kids. Naruto on Team 8. With Kurenai being a bit of an author mouthpiece for showcasing a lot of the bs of canon, and the different team leading to different training dynamics, the characterization of the kids changes a fair bit. It's also based more on the early show than later developments / twists, and takes a lot of liberties with some of the worldbuilding and characterization, so don't go in expecting anyone to be IC according to how canon goes. I'm reccing it because I enjoy it, and figure others may too. Content warnings I can think of off the top of my head include: problems of child abuse, depression, and suicidal thoughts that weren't so explicit in canon. The Hyuugas suck, Konoha's treatment of Naruto sucks. The fic's on FF.net, so I'm afraid it doesn't have CW tags. Warning in general, the fic was seemingly abandoned in 2015, stopping shortly after a rather unhappy turn in the story. The stop point isn't an awful cliffhanger, but it does leave a lot of threads and emotional tension hanging.
This isn't actually technically fan or a conventional fic, but it's neat... and short and incomplete. Still being updated, which is good. Travelogue of the Stars Above Original | Sufficient Velocity It is, quite simply, the tale of a 9th century Islamic scholar who gets abducted by aliens and involved in Weird Stuff, written in the style of a historical travelogue. Not super beefy but very well written.
Because of course the most problematic ship gets fiction: XXX-TRA WIDE CARGO STUFFS MAJOR SHIPPING LANE --- DELIVERS HUGE PAYLOAD by galwednesday Suez Says That She Loves You by Primarybufferpanel
I am extra delighted with this bc primarybufferpanel wrote my all-time favorite MMFR fic, which I think has been recced in here before (The Mountains Are the Same)
AGREE AGREE AGREE I can't wait for more, blackkat is such a good author and i always get so sucked in to their works
I ran into It Makes Me Happy That I'm Not Them again! One of my favourite Ironic Hell examples. (The final section contains some very extreme gore/torture, just FYI. It can be skipped, but tread carefully.)
