Sounds like a truly choice ship, but I am laughing so hard at my own stunned awe about the formatting. I don’t know how to handle this, emotionally. I may cry because that works for most emotions, right? I really need my bases covered here.

Three entire people with no piped names in this fandom, at this time of year, in this part of the country, and it’s not even yuri or any wild idea about three minor characters. And it’s still hard to see how many tags that is, because there’s fucking quotes. Fucking quotes!!

The nickname isn’t extraneous. I know who Mianmian is but probably wouldn’t be able to tell you about Luo Qingyang. But just... something about the combination discontent over piping and diacritics in this fandom is driving me to hysterics over the sheer amount of confusing white space those quotes are contributing.

Is that even how you’d write a Chinese person’s name if they are primarily known by a nickname? FamilyName “Nickname” GivenName? It seems unlikely to me, but I don’t know fuck from shit. I tried very hard to look it up, or even what to do with Japanese nicknames since I’m more likely to be able to understand the results and could maybe jump off from there, but all I learned is that style guides are amazingly useless, at least some people writing about Mianmian in Chinese put her nickname in parentheses after her full name, and former Japanese prime minister Abe Shinzo, family name Abe, would prefer his name to be written as Abe Shinzo in international news rather than flipped around, which seems every bit as reasonable as it is unenlightening on the topic of Chinese nickname formatting.

In conclusion, what have we wrought? I’m so fucking proud of us all right now, collectively as fans. Just. Behold.

 

from what I've seen from looking at musician credits, some japanese people do write their names as [surname] "nickname" [firstname], e.g. suzuki "daichi" hideyuki or takahashi "jr." tomoharu. I don't know if that crosses over w/ chinese or is even a thing outside of the japanese music industry, though

also, guys i am dying, WHAT does the boatbaby tag in GoT mean? is it a show-only thing?

 

As far as I can tell from a quick skim around Reddit pages that Google spat at me, it is a show-specific thing.
- Jon and Dany had sex, while on a boat
- Dany thinks a witch told her she couldn't get pregnant
- but nothing in the show actually told her that. the "witch" in question, Mirri Maz Duur, talked about the chance of bringing Drogo back to life but nothing about pregnancy. apparently there was a line about pregnancy in the book, but it was cut for the show
- this was theorized to be foreshadowing! especially after some behind-the-scenes footage showed her posing in a way that people thought looked pregnant

ergo, fandom concluded, Dany would get pregnant with Jon's boat baby

also, the magic of dragon incest meant this baby would probably be magical, and might be used as a chance to prove Dany was evil by sacrificing the kid to fire gods to fix something in the world...? or might empower the twu wove of the... however they're related, aunt and nephew or something?

I read the books once and retained only enough information to sorta follow fanfic, please feel free to fact check this ramble
