so this might be a bit weird, but does anyone here know of any good places to get decent trainers/sneakers/sports/walking shoes for adults that do up using velcro or similar? asking on these forums because I know there's a pretty large neurodiverse and physically disabled community here

I'm asking on behalf of my partner who has ADHD and struggles big time with a lot of small executive function things like tying shoelaces, which means their shoes tend to be kept loosely laced so they can easily slip then on and off. This, however, is starting to cause major wear and tear on both the shoes and their socks because they spend hours on their feet each day at work and friction's a bitch. So... gotta find a way of easily having tightly fitted shoes, and velcro's normally good at that.

we're specifically looking for anything that comes in a UK size 6(-ish), but we're happy to buy from anywhere in the world if it'll mean a decent pair of shoes that don't look like half a cinderblock spray painted white

I’m not sure about velcro shoes I’m afraid, but it might be worth looking into a solid pair of slip-on sneakers? I’m personally really fond of Vans, but there are a number of options there, and if those would work they’d likely be easier to find in both appropriate sizing and cute styles.

Yeah, there's plenty of slip-on type things available, but friction will still be the enemy in terms of the shoes wearing out in no time at all and/or blister hell, going off past experience. They're not always made for people doing 5+ hours of walking on a daily basis

    thanks for the suggestion though!

    Ahh yeah, that makes sense.

Another possible idea: they make these elastic no-tie laces for regular laced sneakers, which might be a better option?

Velcro shoes: idk where to buy them specifically but my dad has some, bc its hard for him to bend for long enough to tie up shoes

Elastic laces: my dad and I have used Hickies brand no tie laces, but they appear to be uh having problems? Might have shut down and just not said anything?

I ordered some of these but they havent arrived yet. These are sorta similar but require dexterity to get them set up in the shoes

These are probably available in places like walmart.

    seebs' mom Yes, really!

If sandals are allowed, I have been wearing a design from Ecco (through three pairs) because I have nerve damage in my hands and laces are . . . difficult.

Elastic laces are definitely something we're looking into, and these websites are super helpful, thank you! I personally am a bit worried they might still wind up being a bit too loose, but that's me being a worrywart, and elastic laces would still definitely be better than straight-up slipons

Sadly no, Ecco is a great brand and I'm real glad you've got a design that works well for you, but my partner needs closed-toe shoes for their job. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Ecco does sell Velcro shoes for adults, at least in Europe, so I don't see why they wouldn't elsewhere. They're a simple black style.

    Perhaps Google Ecco+Velcro your country?
