I've seen Princex used in the past by people, ymmv on how much you like the term yourself

idk i feel like when you say it out loud it's too close to princess? but i dont know a lot of nb people myself to ask personally, so im throwing it into the helpful void for feedback. maybe princex is fine, and if so i'll use it. but there may be a term for it i dont know, so i'm checking.

edit: the setting im using it in is woman-centric, not as bad as the amazons but still, most of the past rulers were women. so i didnt want it too close to princess, because a lot of people might be like 'if you arent either why not just stick to the female pronouns, what's it hurting' and idk, 'accidentally' say princess anyway.

like shitty ancestral ghosts or something, to make the harvest festival/ghostly family reunion more uncomfortable.

I have also heard of princet as a gender-neutral alternative, if that helps at all

    ooh, princet is nice.

edit: i've heard of scion too but even if my setting is a little scifi, its more modern fantasy, besides, i like that princet has the same 'prin' sound as the other two. thank you all for contributing though!

(scion sounds a little too sci-fi to me, thats what i meant lol)

I've seen prince itself being used for women historically.

Planning a thing set in the Amazon rainforest; I need to know what conservationists in the area would/should do about an illegal animal trapping organisation. The "would" and "should" don't have to overlap. My intuitive thought is they should report it to the proper authorities, but if the local law enforcement are in on it or otherwise not doing anything about it they could try to sabotage the operation themselves? Does that sound like a reasonable train of events? If local law enforcement IS likely to stop it, then I can make my heroes members of same instead of conservationists.

Have you considered looking up news stories on this exact issue? Because I assure you they exist and might be a better source than trying to make it up from whole-cloth.

I did try before asking and couldn't find much on a quick Google search, but I was probably using the wrong keywords. I'll try again.

I'd probably start with the WWF like here and then jump off their citations or like. The wikipedia article on poaching, and again, go off their cited sources and subpages as necessary.

The biggest issue facing animals in the Amazon is loss of habitat due to rainforest clearing for farmland (largely to meet the demands of consumerism in "developed" nations). While individuals engage in illegal poaching for the pet or fur trade or for their own bush meat, it's vanishingly unlikely to be an organized operation, not least of which being it's the fucking Amazon. It's huge, it's hot, it's incredibly hard and dangerous to traverse, and a sudden influx of animals (live or dead) into foreign markets from one specific part of the world's would arouse massive suspicion. They might have a market in China?? But it's not the same as say for instance the ivory trade.

Point being if your heroes are part of a conservation group, and they encounter poachers, it's almost certainly going to be a local who's trying to make ends meat and feed his family, whether literally or figuratively. Working with local groups and individuals through out reach and education is something conservationists will set out to do from the get-go, right along side any work they do with plants or animals because this is critical to their long term plans.

I seem to recall the Anti-Defamation League having a comprehensive list—not sure about how it’s organized, but probably worth a search at least?

I need a family name for a character whos family came from India and has lived in Britain since the 1800s or so. I don´t feel super safe just picking one off a list, does anyone have any advice on how to proceed? Maybe reliable resources on the subject? (I struggle judging the quality of resources sometimes, which is why i don´t feel safe just going out into the wilds of google by myself)
