  1. Wormwitch

Wormwitch I wish the Affini were real :(

Warnings for attempted rape, child abuse, miscarriage?, suicide mention. This movie had a good beginning and middle but the end was a bit confusing. It's still worth the watch in my opinion.
Damn that beginning scared me! I thought someone would come up behind her and that it would be a human, but nope! A monster came out of nowhere and dragged her off screen! New woman taking a job in a hospital suffering from budget cuts. The set looks very creepy, everything is rundown. Looking at those tight hallways makes me claustrophobic. Oh good her boss is handsy /s He's a real asshole.

The tv turning itself on made me jump, lmao I don't think I'm going to make it through this movie. Nightmare sequence in the same grass field from the beginning of the movie, does she have a sister? Is that who died at the begininng? Late for work on her second night, that's not good. Something's running around the hallways of the hospital. Creepy drawings on the walls are a nice touch.

She found a little girl crying in the hallway. If I were her I would not be walking around that part of the hospital, she's really brave. Oh the nurse mentioned the monster. She just got locked in the trash compactor. Here's her creepy boss again, I think he's scarier than the monster. Good bite the son of a bitch!

The people are so rude in this movie, can't you see she's upset? Telling her you'll hit her with a stick, threatening her about paying her rent. She's having that same nightmare again. Was she pregnant? She meets the man from yesterday again. He's a mask maker. So her sister is alive back home. He lets her take a mask. She picks the most metal looking one, based off a cannibal chief? I google his name Lumukhanda, but got no results back. I guess he was made up for this movie, but the tokoloshe is a real folkoric creature.

She calls her sister (?) and leaves a voicemail, she hasn't gotten a call back in a while. I'm starting to suspect her sister is actually dead at this point. Back with the scumbag boss, I hate him so much I hope he dies. I hope the blonde woman dies too, she knows her boss is a rapist and she's saying it's Busi's fault? Busi runs into the same kid again, and she seems to be possessed? I'm starting to wonder if the boss is touching the kids?

oh fuck I think it killed the little girl. Nope she's alive, but another child died? Glad she didn't get caught going through her boss's stuff. This movie is real tense right now. Sneaking that little girl out of the hospital. The monster followed her home! She stole her bosses money but now her boss is listening in on her phone call.

The masks eyes are glowing, that's a nice touch. Now her creepy boss is at her apartment, this isn't going to end well. I hope the monster kills him, I really do. Another flashback, an exorcism? I think she miscarried? The boss tries to kill her but she hits him instead. She's running away when he gets run over yeah!

Oh her sister's dead. She brought Gracie back to her home village? It's the tree from her flashbacks. Implied her own father molested her? I can't tell what's a nightmare and what's not anymore. It's the man from her flashback, is this her father? The tokoloshe is back. Gracie goes looking for her stuffed animal and walks out into the tall grass where the monster got the woman in the begininng. Gracie says Busi's dead sister is looking for her, and walks her through the grass to the tent from her nightmares. She's actually going in?! I guess the tokoloshe traps ghosts in the hut of children he's killed?

Monster looked not great with the cgi. Yeah set the monster on fire! Where's the little girl? Not entirely sure what to think of the ending.

Tau was an AMAZING movie. Sci-fi, AI, and a good ending. I'mma rewatch it again.
Right now we're watching His House and it's intense. Spooky as shit. Deals a lot with ptsd and racial trauma, and all kinds of other things so far. I'm really digging it. I'll give a more thorough review when I've rewatched them at home tho.

I did enough research into RE8 to get info on Lady D and her daughters (for fanfic reasons), and the part that fucked me up the most was that fetus monster thing

    Eugh

Zombie things? Ok. Werewolf things? Ok. Vampire-esque things? Fine. The other three Houses? The dolls were a tad creepy but otherwise fine.

Fetus-monster tho. Mmmm that's a more personal fuck no from me XD

Renewed my shudder subscription just to watch Superdeep, it was pretty good.

Etheria film night 2021 had some pretty good shorts, but it wasn't as good as last years selection.

The Similars is a great movie that I'd never heard of before, and it's on shudder right now. It's about people trapped in a Mexican bus station who experience something strange, and that's all I'll say.

The Boys From County Hell is a horror comedy about an Irish vampire terrorizing a small town. I watched it before work and it was pretty entertaining. Any recommendations for movies with really scary vampires that aren't 30 Days of Night? I've seen Interview With a Vampire, Queen of the Damned, all of the Blade movies, Lost Boys, Near Dark, Let the Right One In, Fright Night (both versions), Dracula (Francis Ford Coppola) and From Dusk Till Dawn.

Not exactly scary, but nosferatu's fun! It started a lot of commonly used tropes in the vampire genre and is overall pretty creepy. I originally watched it on Netflix years ago but I'm not sure it's still there, if you have the patience for a silent film

Oh, also! There's a Hulu series called the strain about vampirish creatures, I've only seen the first few episodes when it was new in 2014 and I remembered it being pretty good but I didn't want to wait for an update every week so I lost interest

This is barely related but I feel the need to tell you that I have a Nosferatu shirt. I have never seen the movie so this is arguably some poseur shit, but it was a gift from this cool college girl (and fellow Weirdo) at my parents’ church when I was a teenager (she’d always set aside a bunch of fun hand me downs for me when she cleaned her closet), so fuck it, I love it.

Anyway I guess now I gotta watch it, prayer circle that I can in fact handle a silent film

EDIT: Also, more on topic: does anyone know of any good animated horror? Or hell, even bad animated horror. (What up I’m Acey and I actually liked Where The Dead Go To Die, objective quality need not apply here.)

I liked monster house when I was young, it's cheesy af but the backstory on why This Particular House is trying to kill people is actually horrifying for a kids movie

Also, does anime count? I could give you so many examples :0

    • Happy sugar life is fucked up majorly, lots of gaslighting, manipulation, and Toxic with a capital T codependency. Involves much harm to minors and is very heartbreaking, I'd spoiler yourself before jumping in
    • Attack on Titan tbh? Scary, Gorey, and though I haven't seen these parts yet also involves a Lot of unethical human experimentation
    • Angels of death, psychological horror meets tragedy meets "I swear I did it with the best of intentions"
    • Deadman wonderland is Gorey af, just tons and tons of blood, though that fits when it's basically Blood Powers, The Anime. Based in a freaky super prison/rich people black market show
    • Charlotte! One of my personal faves and sad af, starts nice then things get dark really quickly
    • Throwing in the english dub of ghost stories, they were given basically no budget or supervision and so they did whatever they wanted and its great. It sounds like a goofy fandom parody but it's real and ridiculous that they got away with it

Oh man, I’ve seen a bit of the Ghost Stories dub and it’s ridiculous. I love it.

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Y'all heard about the mystery flesh pit? They've got a Tumblr and a subreddit and a fellow with the YouTube channel Wendigoon (bluh) (bluh is not part of the channel name) made a pretty good introductory video if you don't mind hour long vids lmao

Someone wrote a fan trilogy about it and I'm reading thru it. I wanna talk about this weird thing with someone haha

So I know this has been asked before, but it was long enough ago that the answer may have changed: is Shudder worth it?

    May I also suggest:
Another - ghostly horror fun times and gore
and School Live! - going in blind is best for this one so be wary

eta: School Live! leaves off at an early point, if you want the rest of the story read the manga, I can't rec it enough :D

I still think shudder is worth it, my only problem with it is you can't download stuff to watch later.
