Edgar Allan Poe is always good ""fun"". I love Brian Jacques' poetry and songwriting (I like it better than the actual stories now, though I still like those). Spooky poem which stuck in my head forever is "By St. Thomas' Water" - good stuff.

I unironically adore most of TS Elliott's work, and had lines from The Waste Land and Hollow Men memorised in art college so I could quote them at will (yeah, I was That Douchebag XD). The first poem I ever vibed with was The Jabberwocky from Alice Through The Looking Glass, though, because it was such wonderful nonsense and so fun to say aloud.

The ones that live rent-free in my head these days are some of Neil Gaiman's stuff, though - I can recite the Faery Reel in fullness the way some people sing songs automatically, and both lines from In Relig Oran and Witchwork sneak up on me when I'm least expecting.

Idk, I've always been a poetry fan. I find it easier to write than prose, but it's rare for me to share it because it seems like such a douchey thing to do these days? Like 'oooh I write poetry I'm so s o p h i s t i c a t e d' except no I'm just a gremlin who likes iambic pentameter and rhyming is fun.

    J. Alfred Prufock is my favorite of Eliot’s. I’m of the opinion that people tend to be far too stuffy about interpreting his work aloud, except for the cat poems. Say what you like about Cats, at least it’s playful and certainly not stuffy about the source material.

I enjoy the way the last section of Hollow Men stutters and mixes itself up. I know everyone likes the bit about the shadow, and with good reason. It’s powerfully evocative. But I particularly love how the opening of that section rather implies that the famous last stanza, about this is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper, is set to the tune of Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush.

'i'm not a big poetry person' i say to myself, then i pull the children's treasury of verse my grandparents gave me when i was little out of a box and the spine is basically falling off

I think most of my negative feelings about poetry come from being forced to study wordsworth at school if i'm honest. It was supposed to be wordsworth and coleridge, but coleridge got very little screentime beyond that poem about the albatross despite the fact that he wrote the infinitely more interesting poetry. wordsworth was all about flowers and crazy women and i'm not about his style

ETA: i did get to study that One Anthology Of Poetry before they took out the poem about knife crime on the basis that they thought, somehow, it would encourage people to do knife crime.
They left in the poem about beating a hitchhiker to death for no reason beyond having a shitty day, though.
I like the knife crime poem

Slightly disappointed the Horrible Histories' "Transport Pioneers" song is a parody of "Greased Lightnin'" and not of "Barrett's Privateers", since the titles match in rhythm and rhyme.

Okay so in my 18 years of diabetes I've never actually used glucose gel - we keep it in the house for emergencies, in case I'm unconscious or insensible and mum has to rub that shit on my gums until the EMTs arrive.

But I happened to notice that the current box was approaching expiry the other day, and my blood sugar crashed this morning while I was sorting out my room, so I took it upstairs and opened the box -

When was anyone gonna tell me this bullshit comes in a fucking glue bottle. Like when you're a kid they're like, nooo don't drink the glue but suddenly you're diabetic and they're like chug chug bitch it's gonna make you not die XD
