I’ve never been able to see emoji on Kintsugi either and had always assumed it was a software limitation of some sort, so now I’m really confused.
I can see the kaomoji but not the other emoji, I don't think it had ever occurred to me that might be something awry with that
TIL that the Madness Combat guy has been putting out more installments of the series for the past twenty years. Sure, there's only fifteen canon episodes, but he's also put out a bunch of related stuff. Also it's gone a bit off the rails since I lost track of it (I think around episode 4) but I am not complaining.
TIL that fez making is a really cool process with each type having a long history, and one that's sadly dying out:
Oh! I also learned that the business insider YouTube channel has several more videos like this on random topics, most of which that I've seen are old traditional businesses that are also dying out
Apparently the Catholic Church switched over to white wine because it doesn't stain the white robes and altar cloths. The commentor who explained that called it "the plasma of Christ".
Didn't learn this today but was reminded of it. Apparently Homer Simpson's "Everything's Okay Alarm" is a real thing. Chemical plants and other such places have alerts which point out everything's at normal levels, so workers don't assume everything's okay if the alarm doesn't sound because it's broken.
The US never signed the treaty abolishing letters of marque, so technically the government can still make you a privateer. I don't think they would, but they could.
Thing I really shouldn't laugh at; according to Wikipedia, during the Satanic Panic, kids were shown pictures of random people including the accused abusers and asked to point out who hurt them. Part of the evidence that the kids were just saying what the adults wanted to hear was when one of them pointed out a picture of Chuck Norris. Maybe "Chuck Norris" is just associated with humour in my mind...
Ferrets prefer to drink lukewarm water over cold. I'd been a bit worried mine weren't drinking enough and searched, and apparently that is a thing.
Tealight candles are called that because they’re to go under the tea to keep it warm?! They’re tea lights! Lights for the tea! The teapot goes on a little stand and the little candle goes inside the stand and keeps it warm. Mind blown.
I'm absolutely delighted when people find that out because long as i remember my dad's used them for exactly that. Has a pretty, heavy glass thing for the light to live in while it warm tea (bonus: this works with basically every other hot beverage you wanna keep hot btw)
I recall there was a brief and painful trend of putting rows of those tealights under a filigree metal rack in order to keep dishes warm at the table in the late 80s or early 90s. Lots of burnt wrists and fingers when people forgot to remove serving spoons or accidentally touched the rack. I think someone lit their hair on fire once, too, leaning over it.
A lot of places use Sternos for that now and it's not much different honestly. Just a little bigger and gas powered instead of wick in wax powered, and they have special little holes they slide into in the racks. Seen em catering and from summer camp work
