i get more vegetables into my day by using a cheese grater on zucchini and carrots, frying them up, and then scrambling a couple eggs with that. adds bulk to breakfast and more fibre & vitamins to my day, but not so great if you're not a fan of mixed textures.

I'm great with mixed textures, and eating vegetables. Looooove me some veg. For dinner, I sauteed mushrooms, bell pepper, diced tomatoes and some chicken breast in olive oil, then used the liquid from the cans along with other seasonings to boil some rice in the pan with them. It tastes sooooo gooooood, and it's very filling!

Also got some baby carrots, broccoli, baby spinach, hummus and cottage cheese, some whole grain bread... Thank god for Aldi, so I can buy some actual produce and not break the bank.

WHY AM I PEEING SO MUCH

JFC, is this a consequence of eating healthy and hydrating? Feels like I gotta go every hour, what the fuck.

Turns out everything has just...so much salt and sugar. That rice I made that tasted so damn good? Yeah, the canned tomatoes had so much friggin' salt, no wonder it tasted so good. And today I got a can of green tea instead of my usual raspberry -- not only did they also sneak black tea into it, shit's got 12 grams of sugar!

Like, look, I'm not looking to obsessively count my calories and cut all salt and sugar from my diet, but goddamn, feels like I gotta be hypervigilant to make the right healthy choices. @_@

don't develop an unhealthy relationship with food, bro. swapping out some problem foods for healthier ones, increasing your intake of vitamins and fiber, that's good stuff. fretting over the sugar in a can of tea, not such a great idea. like ok if it's sweetened don't drink tons of it all day, but 12 grams is only like 3 sugar cubes, it's not a box of donuts.

Yeah...yeah, you're right. If I let myself freak out over shit like this, I KNOW I'll crash and burn and then hate myself. Thank you.

Checking out yoga vids because I'm like the freakin' tin man needing oil over here, but good golly, it's hard for me to relax when I'm too busy rolling my eyes over the more...I dunno, poetic parts of the procedure? Like, hey, if aligning your chakras and thinking about puppies running in a field works for you, that's fantastic, but I'm looking for the sheer functionality and making my joints actually bend right.

"We come to the mat to have an experience in the body."
"We're gonna set the tone for our yoga experience by having a little self expression."
"The most important thing I can tell you in this moment is to connect to this upper current of energy, whatever that means to you."

NONE OF THIS IS HELPFUL FOR ME, THANKS

I wish I could help, but I learned yoga from an old book that had all the spiritual woo at the front and all the instruction, 90% woo free, in the back. :/

I appreciate the thought anyways. :) In the wise words of my husband, "Yoga without the woo is just stretching," so I'll try looking up stretching routines instead.

Eeeh, yoga is rather more involved than 'just stretching'. A lot of yoga poses are isometric exercises, or a combination of stretching and isometric exercise, as well as balance training.

Ooh, really? What do you mean, "isometric?"

Isometric exercise is a type of strength training where a pose is held, rather than repetitive movements. It's been really good for me for building core strength, and of course is a lot easier on joints than repetitive movements.

So like... bridge pose. It's a stretch for your back and pelvis, but it also is an isometric exercise because you're holding that pose, and in holding it you're engaging your muscles to hold up your body weight. (Note that that's the 'in good shape' version of a bridge pose; the version I do mostly has my hips leave the floor, but less so with the arching of the back. I'm a lump of jello with back issues, I have to take it careful for the time being.)

try tai chi. less woo, more breath regulation. you'll occasionally run across an instructor who talks about where to hold/place your 'energy', but that just means your focus/readiness; when you look at the combat forms, the 'energy' is where your next move will chain from.

*barrel rolls back into this thread screaming "TENS MACHINE"*

My husband's new home care PT had an old TENS device that she brought out for him when he mentioned he was researching it for himself, and not only does it do miracles for his arthritis, it works for ME TOO. I mean, my knees hurt as soon as the device is off, don't get me wrong, but for walking and exercise and activity, this sucker helps SO MUCH. We're definitely looking into getting a nice one for us when we have money.

I will say that if you're someone who has sensory issues of the touch type, there might be a chance you won't like it? The electric currents feel fuzzy with a slight pinch, and I can see how it'd bug some people.

holy shit, HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS

I just walked so far! Without knee pain! I was able to enjoy a sunny, snow-covered walk! I mean, yeah, my muscles were burning and my back was aching, but that's all stuff I can fix through repeated exercise, BUT ME JOINTS

    OHHH ME BONES

i just got custom orthotic insoles, and it has done a miracle. i'm so upset that i have the flu (or whatever this awful thing is that i've got) because i want to be out in the cold wind exploring like the polar bear i am in my soul. but i did walk down to the river and back on friday, and i had a nice muscle ache instead of pinched nerves and numb toes.
