this combination of tags. I fail to understand them. I would not call smth a rewrite if you have never seen the original write. More atrociously, though, is marking it as a finished fic when not even the first fucking chapter is actually finished
Yeah I've seen a fair bit of "empty" or "placeholder" fic and that doesnt make any sense to me. Like? There isnt even anything here what are you even posting??? Your tags???
I assume it's a I am only motivated to write if I have people cheering me on, posting snippet / placeholder fics will surely get people Excited and Enthusiastic for my work kind of vibe
nope, not that, because the main person they're depicted as exploiting is Volo himself! because Ginter expects him to, you know, try to be good at selling things! because he's a member of a merchant guild! it's not even the focus of the fic, it's only been brought up a few times, but it annoys me. they also make Cynthia talk like a 16 year old who lives on tumblr (which I'm pretty sure they themself are). and yet I read a good 2/3 of the fic before giving up because the PLA fandom is just that starved for good fic :/
is placeholder fic a thing on wattpad? a good deal of inexplicable behavior on ao3 is down to wattpad users stomping around in clown shoes.
I wonder if it's related to the whole "lots of people suddenly thinking Ao3 has an algorithm" -- trying to get engagement on a story before it's posted so that it will "go viral", whatever that is supposed to mean on Ao3 where works are by default displayed by "Date updated". Or else, just trying to have a fic already have lots of kudos for when they post the second (first) chapter so that people are likelier to click on it. Or else just not actually looking at the options on the posting page.
ah. ah. they want to woobify him. and like i get it because me too but i also have STANDARDS for my woobification and this does not meet them
I don't know why it pisses me off so much, but I HATE HATE HATE when writers use "this" in place of "a" in narration. "He has this red hair" - what red hair, you aren't fucking showing it to me, gaaaah...
People who put up summaries promising action and then produce dozens of tiny chapters consisting only of a couple paragraphs of completely irrelevant dialogue before the story ever gets anywhere.
I am deeply disappointed in the FFXIV fandom, who have been given God's perfect catboyfriend in G'raha Tia, but never seem to capitalize on the fact that he is a tiny tiny man. I'm usually only ever seeing him paired with OCs of a similar height. Give him a partner two feet taller than he is, cowards! Spoiler: Details for people unfamiliar with FFXIV It's an MMO, you can play as various races, etc etc. G'raha is the absolute shortest a catboy can be, he's 5'2", and playable characters can get up to 7'5". Spoiler: Example photo of my character next to this tiny cat
I have a friend who has similarly complained about how much of the fic with him is very Gender Roles Het (or similar-flavored m/m) where he's cast as the Suave Manly Romantic Top, because they feel there is an opportunity being tragically wasted by people ignoring that he's a huge dorky nerd.
The one WOLRaha shipper I follow (destiny-islanders) really doubles down on what an absolute nerd he is, and everyone I know outside of the fandom wants their WOL to top that catboy. Very strange to discover that this is not the mainstream read on him XD
Spoiler: More G'raha details, I just like talking about him Like, he's an archeologist/historian who had a scholarship to fantasy university, and has the special nerd tattoo you only get for being exceptional in your studies. There were specific circumstances where had a leadership position and he was acting as the mysterious and powerful wizard-mayor but the moment he got out of that he reverted to being a dork and has made it explicitly that he doesn't want to do it again. He learned to levitate because he's too short to reach the top bookshelves at Fantasy University. His ears wiggle when he's excited. If you ask him to go anywhere at all his basic emotional reaction is like a dog about to go for walkies. I love him.
There's no good plotty shipfic in the Witcher fandom. If there's a ship, the ship IS the plot. I just want casefic where they kiss at the end, but all I get is 50k words of uncut navelgazey pining :(
Characters who are canonically cloudcuckoolanders are often wasted in fic. No one gets them weird enough.
