Perfume thread! EDP/T/Cs, perfume oils, solid perfume, fuck it, shampoo and lotion if it smells good I don't give a care. Candles. Whatever man. I'm not your mom.

Tell me what stinks you like, what you don't like, where you got them, all that good stuff. Samples you want to try? Lemme hear it!

Everyone around me tells me I like "grandma perfume" and I don't quite know what that means, or how to describe the smells themselves, but I do. So I guess like... Old fashion stuff? I really don't know

I also love cinnamon! Cinnamon candles, cinnamon essential oils in a diffuser, cinnamon spray, gimme it all. I also like strong floral scents like patchouli and ylang ylang, with an exception to lavender. Lavender is a big no.

I'm not big on most food smells, and have to be in the mood for fruity stuff. Leather's nice! That one has more of a nostalgia kick for me though, my mom and sister buy that smell a lot

As for mode of transportation, I like incense sticks for some stuff and diffusers for others. Candles tend to be harder to control with the flavors, and I can't stand most lotion.

Love this thread in general, smelling stuff is fun. Did you know that scent is the strongest memory trigger?

  3. My current favorite is an essential oil blend. bergamot and lemongrass, mainly. I've had some recommendations for Black Phoenix Alchemy's Crowley scent but I haven't actually tried it yet.

I wish in general more places offered rollerball options though, since I hate sprays. masc and gender-neutral scents are relatively easy to find like that but the more overtly feminine florals that I tend to like are seemingly impossible to find in roll-on form

my favorite indie shop (zomgsmells) closed for personal issues a few years ago and im ngl, not sure if they're coming back :( ive definitely mentioned these elsewhere but to repost my fav smells from them:

Magnacephalopoda Aesthetica - Audacious and refined: saffron, white cedar, paleozoic equisetum pulp, a touch of white grapefruit rind and mace. (i have a 10ml bottle of this so i have plenty left .. for now ... if i had a Signature Scent it's this one for sure)

Scooter - an effervescent whoosh of cirrus musk, white tea, and ozone bustling over a sedate blend of blueberry and violet. (this one i will have to try and find a dupe for, i got a 1ml sampler of it when i ordered the 10ml of the first one and it's So good oughhh)

shoutout to their smoky black chai as well ("thick and smoky black tea with milk, clove, green cardamom pods, star anise, and just enough sugar to ameliorate the bitterness of the tea)". really good and will probably be easy to find something similar from elsewhere.

i'm at work so i'll have to return to this for My spam list of current favorites, but today i'm wearing Zoologist's Dragonfly from a sample i got and it is one of my favorites, i'll have to save up and fullsize
Top Notes: Grapefruit, Basil, Angelica Seed, Ginger, Rice
Heart Notes: Aquatic Florals, Geranium, Jasmin Sambac, Mimosa, Orris Absolute, Rose, Violet Leaves
Base Notes: Rainwater, Moss, Patchouli, Tonka, Vetiver, Benzoin, Cashmeran

i wore it today because it's rainy and dreary, and this is a bright clean aquatic with floral elements i really adore. i definitely see the idea of a dragonfly zipping around between raindrops on a lake with lilypads and lotuses.

yesssss i love to sneef and snorf and yeah!!! my current Stink Quest is actually fragrances or scented products that smell like my grandma's house for that reason :3

i'll keep an eye out for more feminine florals and places with rollerballs, but i THINK l'occitane had or used to have rollerballs? and they're my co-too for highly feminine florals (love them, though their longevity is not the best). it is a more mainstream brand and can be very pricey compared to the indie perfume oils world tho

    this one especially sounds so good omg...i love indie perfumes (though my preference for sprays limits me AOGHAOIGH) but i hate how many of them close even though i suppose it's just the nature of the game ;o;

bpa is discontinuing all of their gaiman inspired lines so if you want to try it you should soon

relatedly crowley is my favorite perfume so if anyone has a suggestion for perfumes that smell similar id appreciate it ("Infernal musk, red patchouli, lilac cologne, mahogany, lemon rind, oakmoss, leather, and vanilla husk.")

wearing my sample of Zoologist’s Nightingale today and every time i wear it i’m blows me away with how good it smells. AND. the perfume itself is pink. win

    Top Notes: Bergamot, Lemon, Saffron
Heart Notes: Japanese Plum Blossom, Red Rose, Violet
Base Notes: Oud, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Moss, Frankincense, White Musk*, Labdanum, Ambergris*
it’s a spicy, layered floral that feels sophisticated and mature while also being sweet and delicate. it makes me feel very fancy and elegant, and it’s one of those that every time i smell it on myself i go :)

unfortunately definitely going to have to fullsize. rip wallet

I used to wear, when I was a teenager, the store Buckle’s fragrance line Beauty, Soul, and Rock and Roll from Crash and Burn. They discontinued it and I die. I can’t find anything remotely similar to it again. The bottle slaps.

Top notes are Green Apple, Melon, Green Notes and Black Currant
Middle notes are Jasmine, Magnolia and Violet
Base notes are White Musk, White Woods and Crystal Amber.

There is a mimic website that’s selling their knockoff Crash and Burn for $80. $80! If I don’t like it that’s a whole $100 or whatever after shipping I wasted.

I’m currently settling for bougie Yves St Laurent Mon Paris line. I like both the original and Intensement

    Mon Paris notes;
    Top - red berries
    Middle - white datura flower
    Base - white musk

    Intensement notes;
    Top - black currant
    Middle - rose
    Base - white musk

both basic, both mesh well with my skin and don’t create a gross sickly scent when it settles, unlike the rose jam perfume I bought at Lush. Rose Jam at lush is great as a bath bomb, horrible as a perfume on me. I still have a full bottle.

i don't know much about perfume but thought I'd share something I came across that made me laugh. the perfume in question's description is meant to evoke the body of christ and be a somber religious kind of thing.
SUBJECT: Patchouli, Incense, Cashmere Wood, Guaiac Wood, Sandalwood
COUNTER SUBJECT: Orange blossom, Scots pine, Cloves, Lentisk, Amyris
TAIL: Elemi, Sweet Orange, Black Currant, Nutmeg, Smoke Notes, Tobacco Leaves

however, in practice, an artist i follow said this of it:
    upload_2024-11-12_20-48-4.png

so i guess if you wanna get REALLY popular with the cats and dogs of your life, this'd be the expensive way to go.

today’s stink: verbena carrot flower by l’occitane en provence

this is not one of my favorite scents, but i like it a lot! i meant to put on a different one and grabbed the wrong bottle LMAO. it’s a limited edition flanker of their verbena main scent from i think…summer 2023? so i’m not sure you can find it anymore, though they still seem to have the shower gel and i’m sure resellers have it!

as with pretty much all l’occitane scents i’ve tried (so…three…BUT STILL) the throw and longevity are kind of ass. BUT for me this is a plus, because they’re reliable inoffensive office scents that you can really only smell if you hug me. when i’m working a funeral i don’t want to blast someone off their feet with, like, zoologist squid. lmao

as for the smell: it is very green, citrusy, and fresh with a leafy/vegetal note through it. it smells like crushed young plants to me, with citrus running through. VERY clean and fresh! i was a bit surprised by the vegetal note when i first smelled it, but it’s very appealing if green fragrances are your vibe. personally i think it’s quite unisex.

top notes: litsea cubeba essence, green leaves, lemongrass essence
heart notes: verbena essence, carrot seed essence, angelica seeds essence
base: blonde woods, abrofix, ambrette seed absolute

I prefer tea or coffee kind of scents, along with sort of woodsy or campfirey ones.
unfortunately i swear to god all the good coffee or tea perfumes are limited edition, and i haven't found a chai that isn't too sweet like, ever. they're all vanilla chais.

  14. Witnessed. A brand I otherwise like made a pass at a spice tea scent and it's the only thing I've ever sampled from them that was too faint to be identifiable as anything. And meanwhile everything I've looked at with even vague promise of being the chai blend I wish it was has smelled like getting punched in the face by a Hobby Lobby in November

today's stink: oddity by rag & bone

i got a free sample of this ages ago because my mom gave me a "free trial" of scentbird (it was free, but team, not worth it! buy from a decanter like twisted lily/scentsplit/perfumology instead; it was so difficult to cancel the free trial before it charged me that i had to email them twice for them to answer at all because there's no way to automatically cancel it on the site itself. this was at the time flirting with an FTC violation and is i believe now going to be downright illegal, but way too shady for me to consider again). sadly it looks like this fragrance is final sale on the website so i have to decide if i like it well enough to justify a full size..fairly soon. yikes !

i think the name is definitely fitting! it is very spicy on initial application, and maintains that spicy quality throughout. the vanilla note sweetens it quite a bit without being gourmand, which i really like because gourmands are not for me. the leather i think is what's adding a lot of the roundness and depth to the scent? the site describes it as a woody amber and i definitely think that's an accurate way to put it. i quite like the spiciness but it may not be for everyone! throw i would say is moderate after dry-down, but longevity is great. i put it on this morning for work and it's 3:30pm and i can still smell it. i would say this is a unisex scent, but it leans masculine enough that i'm unsure about wearing it to the office often, particularly with how much throw it has. you definitely have to like spicy, warm scent profiles to like this one. i would recommend a sample before blind buying (but who has money to blind buy spray perfume ...GODDAMN!!!)

Top notes: Sichuan Black Pepper, Cardamom, Angelica Root
    Middle notes: Leather, Incense, Licorice
Base notes: Vetiver, Amber, Vanilla Bean

I'm not sure if this is the right thread since it's not... perfume, technically, but I recently finally got a tea light diffuser and I'm experimenting with house scents.

So far I've been liking the grapefruit essential oil I got the best. I've used frankincense and eucalyptus oil in a terracotta diffuser on my desk before but I wanted a brighter smell to start with since my current apartment is so much bigger than my previous one.

As a grapefruit smell lover I also recommend giving lemongrass a try

I also love giving myself a kick in the teeth with way too much cinnamon in my diffuser, but that's just me. Can't be sad if you can only smell cinnamon!
