IT REALLY WAS REAL! The "I saw this so long ago I thought I hallucinated it" thread

Would it be Untraceable, by any chance? The details are different, but it's the closest thing I can think of to this premise.

in other news I'm very pleased to discover that I did not in fact hallucinate the episode of Reading Rainbow that's just LeVar Burton talking about what it's like to be on Star Trek

 

There is this anime I liked a lot when it came out (not sure if it was a lot of time ago or not cause my sense of time is fucked), it was about girls working out and stuff. There was a minor plotline with arm wrestling? Anyways I want to watch it again but when I google "muscle girl anime" I just get lists of jacked anime girls. I'm not complaining by any means, but I'd really just like to watch the show again

 

Is it Dumbbell Nan-Kilo Moteru? That's what came up when I googled weight lifting girl anime and it looks like it's got an arm wrestling scene.

hey, I've actually seen a bit of that! the running gag of the gym trainer guy looking like a normal anime dude when he's clothed but being absurdly jacked when he takes his shirt off (but still having the same moeblob face) was the funniest shit.

 

So there's this ...poem(??)/meme(??) that we used to quote all the time, and I wasn't sure it was real until I heard the gen z version, which filled me immediately with impotent rage.

I don't remember all of it, but what I do remember is:

Edit for timeline: I am a millennial. This would have been early to mid 2000s. Maybe late 2000s, but not 2010s.

 

i think this may be more a regionalism than an age thing; we sang the one with rats in the mid 2000s when i was in school here and i’ve never heard a version with worms or magazines

Really! Huh, that never would have occurred to me because I heard the rats one from my gen z coworkers.

I cannot for the life of me remember it, but I also have whisps of a faint memory that a cartoon was involved? That may be wrong though
