Tips, tricks, advice, product recs, anything like that - goes here!

I just made a post on tumblr that's basically "how to makeup" for people interested in getting into makeup but have no idea where to start here!

Yes! The make up thread is here!
Does anyone else have issues with wearing mascara? Every time I try, my eyelashes stick together in the corners and fall into my eyes.

Generally, that's a brush issue! What kind of mascara are you using?

I get that, mascara can be expensive.

Well, here's the technique I use, stolen from my sister the pageant queen, and it gets me clump-free 99% of the time:
    (optional first step: curl lashes)
Carefully put brush on top of top lashes, wiggle slightly from side to side as you go down.
Stroke up underside of top lashes, twirling the brush as you go or wiggling side to side (which one works best will depend on the kind of brush you have)
Twirl brush over bottom lashes lightly

It also helps to turn the entire wand over to inspect for clumps before putting it on your lashes. I've definitely had the "whoops that was definitely a huge blob of makeup on my cheek/in my eyes" moment.

I have to ask, you mentioned blue lipstick in another thread, and I want to know which one you like and how you keep it from smearing all over (which has always been my lipstick issue).

    Hmm. I'll try that.
Okay, I have Hipster Ariel from geek chic cosmetics. It is cute as hell, like this shimmery tealish color. The problem is that it bleeds everywhere, so I have to use a clear lipliner at all times with it.
Edit: Ozone by Urban Decay works wicked well.

I love makeup ever since I took a class on it in like 2009. Almost all my makeup is by this Brazilian brand named O Boticário that has really good stuff at unexorbitant prices. I gave up on cheaper stuff, its performance was always too frustrating. I do own some MAC eyeliner (including a gold one that is sadly almost a stump now) and several Lime Crime lipsticks and lipglosses (yes, I'm aware of their shady business practices, but their Candy Apple gloss is still amazing). I plan to buy some MAC lipstick soonish. My favorite kind of makeup relies heavily on lip color, because since I wear glasses colorful eyeshadow and eyeliner don't pop as much as I'd like, but I'm trying to diversify my array of eyeshadow colors and improve my technique with eyeshadow blending, since I tend to turn it all into a darkish smudge /:

Can anyone recommend products for contouring? Everything I've found in stores is too orangy for my pale skin. So far, I've been using a greyish brown eyeshadow I have, but it's not produced anymore. I'm also looking for eyeshadow palette recommendations.

Man, MAC lipsticks are really nice. I don't own any personally, but I've tried a few on in the stores and wow.

My ex girlfriend has two. I have good lipsticks that are well-pigmented and last a long time, but those are some truly next level magic thing, so I'm dying to get my hands on a couple.

My sister has a few, and we went out to a store for a sibling day out. She nearly had to drag me out of the store I was so obsessed.

If you're looking for "interesting color" palettes, I got an awesome one for Christmas that's space-themed, BH Cosmetic's Galaxy Chic.

I think I have a Snapchat photo somewhere of an eye makeup look I did with it, hold on and I'll see if I can post it from my phone.

I also wear glasses, but although I like colorful eyeshadow I don't like it super intense so that actually helps me. If anyone feels like a How To Lipcolor basics post, I could really use it. I don't understand basically anything about lip makeup; I wear a tinted lip balm most of the time.

I would love to see it.
I could do the lipstick basics, I am mostly a lipstick person.

It's a look I wear all the time, but I apparently have neglected to save any of the selfies I took :/

A lipstick basics would be awesome.

    Nice :)
I'm gonna start working on that.

    Lipstick Basics
So, lipsticks are only one sort of lip product. There are balms, stains, glosses, and then lipsticks. Balms are pretty much for keeping your lips not painful and come in tinted versions, which is sorta general knowledge. Stains are in liquid form, and are frustrating/drying as hell. They are good when you absolutely cannot have anything move what-so-ever. Glosses are sticky and generally stay on badly, but are shiny. Then there are the hybrid products. Like balm/stains, or gloss/stains, etc.
You don't really need to start with neutral colors or anything. I started wearing a purple-y red color (crush in the relvon colorburst lipbalmstains.) You just have to get used to seeing yourself in them. Wear them around the house for a while before you go anywhere. If you've never worn serious lipstick before, start with the revlon colorburst lip balm stains, because they are mega easy to work with. They stay on really well, are in a neat crayon form, and come in three finishes. Matte, normal, glossy. I have one from each and they are great. The matte one doesn't dry your lips out at all.
The lip butters by revlon are also awesome, maybelline vivids are cool if you want neon stuff.
Lip liner isn't required with any of these, which is good cause it can be kinda frustrating. You should sharpen them and then fill in your entire lip, cause that keeps the lipstick on and prevents weird mismatching lines.

i am really, really fascinated by vibrant eyeshadow. i especially love the looks that blend shimmery colours, like gold and jewel-toned greens. but whenever i try to replicate them they always look much less vivid even though i use a primer, which is disappointing.

Can I add to Lipstick Basics? I'm very much a lipstic person too.

Tips to rock bold lip color:

    1. It can look better if first you neutralize the colors of the rest of your face. Don't skip powder and/or foundation and maybe add some concealer to any patches of skin that are too reddish or purplish or whatever. As you grow more confident in bold colors, you'll feel less of a need to do this, but in the beginning it helps.

    2. Learn whether your skin has warm or cool undertones. The easiest way to do this, for me, is buy a red lipstick that's a bit purplish and one that's a bit orangeish and see which looks best. If it's the orangeish, congrats, your skin has warm undertones. If it's the purpleish, congrats, your skin has cool undertones! Either of these skintones can still rock any COLOR of lipstick (oranges, reds, purples, pinks) as long as they're suitably warm or cool.

    3. Wear minimal eye makeup, and wear it in neural tones. There is such a thing as good makeup that has both busy eyes and a busy mouth, but save that for when you're more familiarized with bold lipstick.

    4. Learn what shade of blush works with your lipstick. Generally speaking, pink or purplish lipstick goes well with pink or purplish blush, orange lipstick goes well with orangy blush, and red lipstick goes well with brown blush. IF YOU'RE NOT SURE WHICH SHADE OF BLUSH TO WEAR, BROWN BLUSH IS YOUR FRIEND. IT WILL P MUCH NEVER LOOK BAD.

    5. Go rock it <3
