Hm-hm, I think it'd be nice if we left it open for people to use the Gems they've already come up with? But some kind of game focusing around damaged or variously not-Homeworld-approved Gems - in the way that Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet seem to be - would be fun, I think?
Aaaaaah I was just speculating that my fangem was stuck to a big ship! I figured she was a troop transport and most of her crew were corrupted or cracked beyond repair because I was placing her closer to Steven's time, but a prison ship works too. If. Um. Nobody minds my gem being more of a place than a character at the beginning at least. If we start out ON the ship then she could be a silent ally now that she's damaged and nobody's helping her (she's Not a Priority while there are escapees all over the place, she is a Broken Thing now, ect.) until she manages to get someone to free her. We could always run both threads- one that's completely silly and a more serious world-exploration thread. Uuuuum. -looks at other threads I joined right before my brain died. Posted in like one of them. Once. Shiiiiit.- But wait if I'm playing a thing/place at first I might not need to post all that much without disrupting flow. I dunno if I'm biting off too much but SU makes me feel all fuzzy~ Buuut so did brainstorming for the stuff I haven't been able to gather functionality to post in. Balls.
Hmmm, well, everything's still changeable in terms of plot. I like the idea of a ship-Gem, though that may be my desire for a Gem-helmsman equivalent (helmsgem?) talking. Also, this forum in general gave me the idea of a nomadic healer Gem who can fix up any crack, but while the resulting healed Gem works just fine, the spots where cracks were are gold.
DUDE KINTSUGI FANGEM. She might be a liiiiitle helmsman inspired. Also a character my dad played in Rifts who was a Machine Person security officer who could directly interface with the appropriate aspects of the ship, so he could remotely lock/unlock doors, look through cameras, stuff like that, and had override authority in case someone tried to hack the built-in security. There's also a canon Machine Person who had her consciousness uploaded to the ship and her body destroyed in an attempt to make something closer to a HS helmsman. I've just really been into the idea of genius loci for a loooong time and will indulge it any time I'm given the chance :D
Would Kintsugigem be able to heal non-gem injuries the way Rose/Steven can? Edit: Aaaaaugh what is that thing called where natural stones have bits of metal through them? I know that's a Thing that Happens. Aaaaah ok am I way too hyped to ignore Tanzanite. She's gonna be a thing. I can't help it. I'm already attempting dolls of her _-_ it is hopeless to fight.
Inclusions is the term you're looking for. As for gems with the appropriate powers, you might want to try Aqua aura quartz, @KarrinBlue ? it's a gold-coated quartz that looks blue, because Gems Can Be Weird. tanzanite is my signature stone though muffled grumbling
Sorry I have jewelry shopping channel damage and an obsession with Tanzanite even though I will never be able to afford it. Though working on her color scheme is really hard because I can't get it to look right so I might go with a different stone to save myself the headache.
I might toss Pyroxene and Amphibole in here when I'm finished with them. They're both pretty workaday, don't-rock-the-boat kind of gems, so they would work well as low ranking manual labor/crew on the prison ship idea. I've never done freeform/diceless rp, though, so...
*JUMPS IN WAY TOO LATE* I would love to RP my gemsona (Tektite), holy shit. She's a communications worker for Homeworld (probably with a similar rank to Peridot, but a different position), and she has autism (or the gem equivalent), with her special interests being various forms of communication--textual, visual, verbal, any sort of communication. She's damn good at her job because hey, getting to use your main interest to advance your career and life is rad, but since she's considered "defective" due to the Diamond Authority probably not looking fondly upon any sort of personal deviation (presumably including brainweird) she'll probably never advance through the ranks very high. She doesn't care though. Or rather, she wouldn't care if she realized they basically only tolerate her for her skills--she's sort of oblivious to things she doesn't care much about. Not sure of her weapon yet (maybe some sort of sound weapon?), but I think she'd be kind of useless in actual combat. She'd work better on the sidelines.

Thanks! I'm inclined to agree. :D For the record, this is what actual tektite is! It's space glass, basically. Her color scheme is based on multiple forms of it--the green is from moldavite tektite, and the black and grey are from most other forms of tektite. Also, absolutely agreeing that a silly shitty gemsona RP would be fun too. @mustelid and I were actually just discussing a meth gemsona. XD
