Fair points all around. I think that the dialogue in the ep is likely suffering from "we have eleven minutes to get this done" syndrome - while I suspect Garnet's line in the sand is in a different place than we might all agree with, it's hard to show the nuance in that short a time. @tinyhydra honestly, i agree with you in large part. it's really dangerous to tread solidly on the "there are people who don't deserve trust". because while it might be true, i find it dangerous for the same reasons that "everyone deserves to be trusted all the time" is dangerous. and like @cryptoThelematrix said, you can forgive someone and still not fully trust them. so yeah. complex shit to distill into a few seconds XD
I don't really know what trust has to do with this, honestly. Garnet said that Peridot didn't deserve Steven's patience, which seems different to me than saying something like "we don;t have the time to gentle someone who is actively trying to do something that will hurt us real bad." That's just facts. Stuff hurts, nothings perfect or ideal. Deserve puts it on Peridot. We wouldn't help her even if the circumstances were different, she just isn't good enough to be better or happier or to learn about us and how we think. Trust is. Weird. i dunno a lot about it. I don't know what that has to do with deserving stuff or redemption or anything, sorry.
The gems definitely have some trust issues with other gems, and probably for good reason. I think the show is -- not suffering, exactly, but experiencing symptoms of not only having such little time to work with in each episode, but also of setting things up for future episodes, which leaves the audience in the dark until those episodes come to pass.
Like if someone's a liar or has their allegiance somewhere you don't want it to be, that's just stuff you gotta know if you wanna get good results from your interactions with them. I'm kinda just flailing in wordless confusion and badfeels, here, so. I'm just gonna let it lie, haha. Sorry.
Maybe using the wrong word again. But I sort of think of it as two sides of the same coin -- if Peridot deserves patience, Garnet is trusting Peridot with that patience. If Peridot doesn't deserve patience, Garnet doesn't trust her.

Spoiler it's called subtext I fucking died laughing during this episode, but Peri shipping and analysis of that single episode was the best part for me. Peri attempting to fuse with Garnet and deciding she can't though and Garnet being totally cool with it was really sweet though. It gave me the warm fuzzies. I wonder how many people started shipping it tonight Perinet? Gardot?
ok after this episode is anyone else having a countdown to more shipping drama like Spoiler hypothetical ship wank: Perinet is pedophilia because Peridot is "coded to be a child" (is probably a few thousand years old, but that's considered child age to a gem anyways, and she's smol) and it's horrible the show is horrible and if you ship it and aren't a CSA survivor you are either a pedo or a pedo apologist because even though Garnet put zero pressure on her, asked if she was ok multiple times, etc. that doesn't make it ok because Peri is still a child and it's impossible for children to consent.
