I'm still not sure what I think was the illusion. Because like, that would have to be a big illusion to get EVERYONE but at the same time, no one would be in the right positions if it had been a small, localized one..
I know and that's the problem!! especially because (SPOILERS) means that it wouldn't have been able to get EVERYONE! it doesn't work either way!
I have to say I really enjoy the view the recent episodes have given us of Cinder's messed up relationships with Emerald and Mercury, where they're reliant on her praise and so clearly in murderous puppy love with her, how she freely abuses Emerald and yet Emerald comes back to her because she's so grateful to the woman who took her on as her apprentice and how she never has anything but praise for Mercury and the way that also acts as a control method for Emerald. And by "enjoy" I mean "this is fucked up and wonderful, thank you Rooster Teeth."

Spoiler Well, given that Qrow, whose job is gathering information, apparently still hasn't mentioned anything about what the people who attacked Amber looked like, maybe they figure they don't need to. It's like, we all thought Neo had illusion powers but no, it's just that she actually bothers to change her hair color and suddenly nobody can tell who or where she is.
yeah, and that is....dumb. like, what the heck. there are so many things about that that are ridiculous. Spoiler like, why hasn't Qrow told what they looked like yet??? how do people just not recognize Neo when she changes eye and hair color??
Spoiler Just until the final phase, which is probably Emerald making Pyrrha murder Penny in front of the crowd for whatever reason. Like, it's not like this is a very solid deception, it was pointed out that Mercury was headed back to Haven and he'd be questioned once that ship touched down, probably by cameras. It wasn't meant to last very long at all, just get the crowd riled up and angry. Finding out that Mercury has robot legs would probably just make them more angry at this point, because they'd realize that they were tricked. Which means even more Grimm on the borders. So it looks like Mercury is there because it's almost time to move openly, and him keeping his cover is less important than Emerald getting to play her part. Oh, also, pretty sure that Emerald started messing with Qrow's head pretty much immediately, given how Cinder's face blurred and then they immediately disappeared after the first exchange. He probably doesn't know what they look like.
