Oh yeah, definitely, but there's a very big portion of Vampire games/characters that go the WEH MONSTER route.
-whispers- that sounds so boring though omg -/whispers- like I don't wanna go and ruin other people's fun but Vampire is great to me because playing a literal monster which will throw someone across the room for the wrong level of formality is HILARIOUS. I WANT to play a terrifying predator that's like at least 70% of the fun
... vampire socialism and gender theory? Okay, that sounds neat. :D Sidenote, I really wanna write a subset of Inquisitors who're all about freedom of information. Because the only truly safe information is information that everyone knows! Information that cannot be killed, that lives forever on the internet! Basically, God-Machine viewed as an analogue for the NSA et al, and demons viewing themselves as Snowdens. Also they totally arranged for The Matrix to hit it big.
My new character is in the Carthian Movement who totally rule. Idk how familiar with Berlin's rl history you are but, the short of our new chronicle history is during the Seperation into East and West with the Wall and what not, East Berlin Carthians had a socialist revolution a la Marx and when the wall fell there was a big war between the two different movements and now we are happily ruled after the vampire version of Socialism and love our ruler to bits.
Eh, vampire's not my thing in either direction, really. Like I said, if I want to play the "oh god I'm a monster" narrative, I've got Changeling for that. Mostly it's other aspects of not-quite-human that I enjoy playing with, hence Demon and Promethean.
... that actually sounds fascinating. And I mean, given the population sizes vampires tend to have, and the fact that for the most part they seem to be in a post-scarcity economy, vampire socialism could actually work, at least much better than rl communism has tended to. (I mean, uh... they don't need food or anything. They need blood. But blood isn't dependent on wages? Probably. I don't know.) But consider: changelings that LOOK like vampires. :D Sad, sad changelings.
ohhhh I wonder is it possible in the P&P WoD to crossbreed mythical beings? would it actually be POSSIBLE to have changeling-vampires? noooooo now I want to break rule-systems again help
Break the thing, break the thing! :D But I mean, changelings are basically humans who were rebuilt along story archetypes, and there are canonical Dark Is Not Evil changelings (http://whitewolf.wikia.com/wiki/Darkling). So... it seems awfully likely that there would be!
That's nChangeling right? I wonder if oChangeling Red Cap + Vampire would be terrifying or awesome or both? Probably pretty hard to contain and hide at least what with double the bloodlust and hunger raging *fascinated science mumbling*
It is indeed; I'm not actually very familiar with oChangeling; I got into WoD after the nWoD launch, so I've never read much of the oWoD books. And huh. That sounds really interesting.
I came up with it on the fly since the two larps based on wod i do are changeling and vampire and the changeling one I play a Red Cap and my brain is now trying to come up with something that is not just fourty different kinds of mass murder and force of nature vaguely shaped like a person
I play in a long-running nWoD tabletop game, and I have to say it's one of the best systems I've used. At least in our game, it does a really good job of never slowing down a story-heavy game with too many complicated rolls. The game started off as a claustrophobic small-town horror game with all the PCs as ordinary people. Several years later, two of the PCs have awakened as mages, three have taken on powerful supernatural roles associated with the town, we're trapped in a bizarre version of the town outside of space and time, and we're trying to prevent the return of not one but two gods. I love this game. The GMs are the best kind of assholes.
This is something I'm playing with in the Hunter the Vigil game I'm running! It's the first in-person game I've run, and it's going pretty well - we started off with pure human characters, but we're slowly edging in bits and pieces of other splats... and at least one of my players only knows about his splat to the extent that he's been told of it - which is rather IC, considering his mentor is withholding a lot of information... I'm still trying to figure out how to taint one of the mages with a touch of vampirism - which may come out with some traits that are a lot more along the lines of Demon's tells... I'm hopelessly addicted to merging and mixing splats and seeing how they fit, one of the main issues is power balance - hence why the mage in the hunter game had to be a bit nerfed? Honestly, though, the splats have had less effect on gameplay and more on what's going on and the tools they have to investigate... which is really fun. My Skype game has, unfortunately, died a bit due to one of my folks moving in with his gf, so... QQ... ( Admittedly, I haven't actually had a chance to play OWoD... Also started off with a heavily D&D background, so then moving to a ST system, and I'm so happy... hack and slash isn't my bag. ) Er. But yes. Rule-Breaking = all the fun.
A newbie came to the Wod Thread? a newbie came to the WoD thread. Leans forward really intensely. Also is anyone else following the Beast Kickstarter because even though I DON'T HAVE MONEY a friend of mine back and is feeding me PDFs and I'm so. so fucking excited. They're actually listening to draft feedback and adding MORE SHIT to clarify and stuff and just. ROLLS ROLLS ROLLS I love Onyx Path.
Yes... I've been following Beast - haven't had time to go in-depth, but each of the kickstarters for the new x the y I've been trying to keep track. They're following draft feedback? That... might get my beau back into things - he's been grumpy about some of the inconsistencies/grim grim grimdarkness, a bit? But I enjoy the settings, and find them a lovely bit of inspiration... Geist, Hunter, and Changeling are my JAM.
Yeah, they're actively adding/editing stuff as the kickstarter goes on, there's been like six little bits of errata to the kickstarter draft that will go into the publication so far. I'm so excited about Beast because CROSSOVERS. Crossovers are 800% my thing. (Which, while we're here - I'm got a nDemon/Promethean game concept I keep meaning to run, anyone here interested?)
I'd be interested if anyone walked me through the whole HOW DO part and I find time/spoons to do it. I am a bit stressed rn because i write like a bazillion letters a month for the vampire larp and have to coordinate basically a tiny government. ew responsibility.
I can help w/ that, though I've only partially digested demon so far. I'm always up to chat game stuff on skype, p much. nngh, oh god feedback plz yes. Promethean doesn't sound quite like my Jam but the demon side is something I could rock. Any houserules, adjustments, etc, because I'm usually down 4 it.
