how do i get myself to eat/drink when it feels like it might make me throw up?

    I'd try not taking huge portions all at once, and I'd try distracting myself whilst eating. Like, just have a glass of pediasure and a glass of water close, and sort of try to finish them over the course of half an hour or so. A straw might help with this, because then you can't take huge sips all at once, and it's easier to just instantly swallow the food, and not let it sit in your mouth :)

    I have had really good luck with candied ginger to help settle things.

    I also swear by wheat thins and ginger ale when I'm really sick.

    @seebs none of those things are stuff i can handle eating, 'cause of aforementioned sensory issues, but thanks!

    Ahh, that'd be hard, yeah. Ginger's basically pure fucking magic for me for digestive stuff, which makes it hard for me to understand how to function without it. One of my friends discovered that sushi ginger was Always Food for her, enough to get past the initial "I feel so unbelievably horrible I can't eat".

    @seebs ah. then again, i don't think i've ever actually tried ginger - but the idea of trying it is pretty scary for me, so... yeah...

    Ginger is pretty strong. The main thing is, it's one of the better-tested remedies for nausea and the like, for a lot of people. But it can taste strong enough to burn, so it's a thing worth experimenting with, but be prepared to conclude that it is Not For You. But it might be; I really love that strong ginger flavor. I will eat ridiculous amounts of candied ginger if not prevented from doing so.

    It's available dried and powdered in capsules, which avoids the whole flavor thing.

    Candied ginger, you have to eat a fair amount before any kind of heat is noticeable. But it sorta builds up, so if you just sit there chewing up handfulls, it'll show up after a while.

    If it's powdered in the capsules it's likely that the capsule bit is just gelatin formed into a "skin" to make swallowing easier. You could open the capsule, spill out the powder, put it into a drink or let it dissolve on your tongue.

    Also, as a side note, capsules generally aren't vegan because they're made from, well, gelatin. Solution, apparently, is to take the powder and put it in vegan capsules.

    When I was a kid I couldn't swallow pills, so when I had to take them, mum would crush them up with some honey.
