Hey, book nerds, want to have a book club? I'm going to vote for 'easy for most people to access' and 'of interest to most people who're interested in bookclubbing', but... guys, I just really want to nerd about books. >>;
Putting my "yes" vote here in the official thread! I don't know if I, myself, am that great at discussing stuff but I figure I might have stuff to say and even if I don't, reading other people's stuff would be interesting.
I feel like everyone in the forum will just join the book club except for like ten people. ...I like it.
Yep yep bookclub time! ... I haven't had spoons for much non-schoolwork reading lately, unfortunately, but that will change eventually and I'm always up for nerding about books I've read and/or forcing them down people's throats. #hello do you want to talk about the silmarillion
Given the interest level, maybe we should request a book discussion forum, with semi-regular 'let's try to read ___ by around ___ and then chatter about it' to provoke discussion, but also decentralized book nerding? I'm going to vote for crowdsourced control because I am easily overloaded and will probably be a little in and out, I am not very reliable. But... books! Books are neat! Anything y'all want to read or chatter about? @unknownanonymous and I were discussing Ringworld just now, and I think that's well-known in the US, but might be more difficult for non-US folks to find if we have many? (For what it's worth, it's hard science fiction with lots of neat aliens.) I don't think there's any need to be great at discussion, it's just... really hard to find book-fandom online, outside of a few very well-known books. Shared enthusiasm is fun. :D I'm spergy about literary analysis, so I will definitely be longwinded, but if y'all don't mind...
This. I haven't read it since I was about ten, and I was too young to really understand it at that age.
Yeah. I personally can't handle any of Tolkien's stuff. Too ADHD for it or something (not that it's an universal thing or anything, 'cause it likely isn't). XD
What you said: that. What I heard: "Nai should resume their Eragon liveblog." #I mean I really do intend to get back to it #it's just #motivation #and also being mad about my favorite character spending most of the story Not There
I feel like that would be good as just a general "sperg about your fandoms" forum? Like, the current sperging forum is kind of geared towards advice and stuff, not just "I LOVE THING" infodumps. Note that my motivation may be biased because I have a really interest need to sperg wods on someone right now.
I'm a Canada-folk and I found Ringworld and stuff alright (originally at my high school's library, six years ago or so), so I don't think it's too hard to find. Especially since I know it's floating about somewhere on the Internet. XD Nice. No pressure. That is what Kintsugi's about, after all. XD
This sounds like an excellent plan. I like the idea of having some kind of mechanism to get people familiar with the same fandom, like a bookclub, because a lot of the time I think folks are spergy about things nobody else knows about and that's WHY we're longing to sperg words on people? Discussion and shared enthusiasm are fun, like I said. But yeah, a general squee forum sounds perfect. :D Anyone have anything to add, or shall we pester Seebs now?
I've read that series. Who is your Eragon fave? (And damn do I know those "fave spends most of the time Not There feels." Like, Norm the Genie, my FOP fave, is only in 3 eps out of around 200.)
Definitely good to know. I'm not sure if we have a lot of folks around from far afield, but we can probably cross that bridge when we come to it. (If anybody has concerns, mention it and we'll look for internet-accessible books.) Much appreciated. I am a BAD leader - I will be super organized until I overload and then hide for a month.
Let me tell you about my character type and the resulting Murtagh bias. Let me TELL you. I would definitely need net-accessible books for any group reads I participated in, Because Lack of Financial Security.
Ah, Murtagh. I think I liked him. What is your character type? (I have a vague guess but...) Net-accessible is awesome!
