Clothes, makeup, hair, and other such things

i've semi-decided my new year's resolution is taking better care of my skin, which means i've developed a bit of a sheet mask obsession! it's such a fun luxury though, they're usually cheap & they feel really self indulgent, for twenty minutes i can't really do anything but lay around and feel like i'm a spoiled rich housewife, it's so great. and i definitely feel moisturized & fresh afterwards. so far this one is my favorite, but i have only tried a couple.

also one of my friends on tumblr showed me a subscription box that's just masks & i jumped all over that, i'm pretty excited~

@IvyLB is it the L'oreal Tint Caresse? i googled & that's the only result i got, but if it is, it looks interesting. apparently it's trying to capitalize on the korean gradient lip trend, which i've been wanting to try for a while so i might have to check it out

and doing gradiant lips as well as vibrant solid is really really easy I'm digging the application and longevity a lot

 

I'm trying to glam up my wardrobe a bit and I desperately need jewellery (necklaces and earrings), but I just have no idea where to start! Especially with necklaces. I've rarely ever bought them and I don't really understand how you're supposed to choose style and shape and colour to match clothes.

Any advice would be appreciated, though I'm aware this is a pretty vague request! If it helps I can elaborate on what kind of impression I want to make and what some of my clothes look like...

 

some elaboratio would probably be helpful but i mean I personally like just wearing a lot of necklaces of similar design/color of differing lengths (like my current favorite is wearing my copper colored short leaf, the long silver leaf and my gold leaf earrings together.)
usually if you are wearing a scarf you want long necklaces, which is pretty much the only rule there is (and it's pretty logical. You want people to see your necklace after all)

 

@EulersBidentity just buy jewelry that you like and think is pretty and mess around with it! youll find that the outfits kinda make themselves, in my experience.....!

costume jewelry is also great for experimenting with colors n styles n things for cheap

 

Hm. I think my main issue is that big necklaces look garish to me when they're on the shelf, so I end up buying daintier things which turn out to be much too inconsequential when I actually put them on. So I suppose it's a question of courage :L Perhaps I'll buy two or three cheap big necklaces online and see how they work out.

I personally adore large necklaces but if you technically like a daintier feeling... lemme quickly grab pics!

these types of necklaces (and earrings) where they galvanized leafs for a fragile looking see-through metal version of the original organic structure are fairly large (see my hands for size comparrison) but they also still look really delicate imo. (also they are just gorgeous as hell and i wanted to brag a whole fuckin lot ever since i got the silver necklace and gold earrings for free from a colleague of my mom)

 

Couldn't find anything I liked on Amazon or Claire's or Asos, went to Boohoo and filtered by "statement necklaces", found four possibles!

In terms of context: I'm trying to smarten up my clothes so I make a more professional & low-key glamorous impression. For gigs and auditions and stuff. I'm most comfortable in skinny jeans and some kind of neat top, so I'm looking for jewellery that'll make that look more like an "outfit". I'm also looking for stuff that I can pair with evening dresses for concerts.

@IvyLB I've seen those before! They're so pretty.

 

So discussions with my moirail have come out to that my aesthetic is basically "bold color accents dark mori" but I really, really can't resist calling it octopus mori.

Also now comes wardrobe building. fml.

thrift shops are a mori aesthetic heaven (i say as a dark mori/mori/strega wearer)
also look into (european/western) layering brands like Sarah Santos, Deeberg, D'Celli, Kekoo, Nygel (You can find some of these for p cheap on ebay.) (ty mom for helping me with brand names. She has a pretty big European Layering wardrobe)
I also love love love my blouse/dress/jacket thing by Omen. You can definitly check romantigoth and fairygoth tutorials and brands.
Also some more keywords to search on ebay for mori-and-adjacent-styles clothes: LARP, ren faire, distress, grunge, tribal, boho/bohemian...

The problem with layering is that it's... layering. I love the look but I have trouble actually wearing it because my thermoregulation is tits and I overheat super fuckin easily. Typically the most I can do is [bra if applicable]/undershirt/overshirt-jacket-thing and that's only when the layers are fairly thin.

I really do need to go thrifting at some point though. There's a goodwill within walking distance for chrissake

bruh invest in a shitton of summer clothes.
the only real "winter" clothes i own are my heavy knits (which i wear all the time bc my thermoregulation runs basically opposite of your i'm almost always cold) and everything else is just "stack breezy chiffon/silk/lace/see-thru/otherwise thin and breathable clothes until desired effect is reached"
usually a good mori outfit can be achieved with a dress+underskirt+cardigan combo and a scarf or something. Put on cute tights/socks and you got a good casual outfit. Underskirts don't actually add much warmth until you reach 'I'm wearing four skirts and leggings and leg warmers and overknees, and...' territory is my general impression, but again I'm very easily cold.

 

also if you can fid it silk is magic. It cools you down when it's hot and warms you when it's cold.

@Starcrossedsky I've seen shirts with fake layers (e.g. a sweater with cuffs to a shirt that isn't actually under it, a shirt with a fake undershirt visible in the v of the collar, etc.) Maybe something along those lines?

 

I actually can't even wear long sleeves a lot of the time because of sensory issues, haha...

On the bright side this is a good fashion for my Bolero Problem, I love boleros, I want fifty fucking sleeves-and-half-a-back jackets
