So I saw a post on tumblr and now I'm wondering

Could there be mabari mages. We know that mabari have human-level intelligence, and if we assume that they dream (which I'm pretty sure most dogs do!) then they've got a connection to the Fade. And by that logic, probably some of the smarter kinds of birds and such could too - corvids, whales maybe?

Hell, considering how magic seems to be partly instinctive, they might not even need to be very intelligent animals.

I've now decided that my Inquisitor once posited this to various members of the Inner Circle. Your dog might be a mage, Cullen. Leliana, statistically speaking one of your bajillion corpsebirds? Probably magic.

That just makes me think of Morrigan getting into arguments with my warden's stupid magical dog. Because oh she is so onto him. Mangy hound she sneers, while sneaking the poor boy a treat.

@witchknights DANG that is one fine-looking Qunari. And she looks absolutely done with Solas's bs |DD

God Morrigan's relationship with the dog was the best. A lot of people had fun interactions with him, but I liked Morrigan's the most. Grumpy but loving Kom'rk being all quiet. Silly happy CĂș Chulainn rolling around. And Morrigan frowning and trying her hardest to pretend she doesn't love them both.

    Dog magic:
-enhanced speed to rUN FAST AND CATCH THE THING
-simulate wind blowing in their faces
-water-based magic to create mud puddles ANYWHERE
    -enhanced senses for super sniffs
    -Claim A Thing and/or Protect A Thing

It's just like Cole, but instead of murderstabbing you it drools all over your stuff and keeps whining because it wants you to scratch it's belly

The most adorable abomination in all existence.

I meanwhile have spent the past however long looking at Merrill fanart. I also need to painstakingly search through fanfiction for the first time in years. Because Merrill is just so cute. Oh god.

what has bioware done to me

This is even worse than Morrigan making me straight.

Merrill is absolutely the best, hands down, it wasn't even a choice. She has the perfect balance of no chill and kindness that's really hard to find.

AND SHE IS INVOLVED WITH BLOOD MAGIC. THE MAGIC OF THE BLOOD.

    but is so cute

She even makes me not hate bare feet. Which is fucking bizarre. I HATE feet with a fierce passion. Not even Morrigan could convince me otherwise in some hypothetical universe where she is shoeless all the time. Merrill though.

(the homestuck in me is very ashamed that only now i realized that the way i like my secondary lavellan's relationship with Solas is as flipping red and black all the time /facepalms)

Merrill doesn't get half the credit she deserves - she's one of the nicest, wisest, most emotionally mature characters in the setting, and she's remarkably controlled and intelligent for a blood mage - ive seen so many people call her idiotic and stupid for making the deal with the demon when she is actually pretty stable, mindful of the consequences of her decisions (she WAS asking hawke to kill her in act 3 if stuff went wrong. marethari got her nose where her nose shouldnt be). she's just so great. i wish we couldve seen more of her

Merrill is, imo, autistic and dealing with a lot of culture shock (If Mahariel was the Warden, she says that Duncan was the first human she'd ever seen!), but people decide to read that as 'stupid' and 'sheltered' and look down on her about it. >:| She's odd and processes the world differently from other folks and is struggling to navigate an entirely new culture. She's also well-learned, thoughtful, kind to others, and stands up for herself with quiet strength. She only uses her own blood (and there are lots of hints throughout the games that the real problem with blood magic is when people use others to fuel it and treat them as less than people because of it - and that overblown fear of blood magic has hamstrung things like basic knowledge of anatomy and medical technology). She is not stupid.

yeah. pardon my french because ive been awake for about... 30-ish hours, but merrill rebuilt the eluvian basically out of farts and with the help of no one whatsoever. no one stupid would have done that. And her ideas about the nature of spirits and how to deal with them are... way more correct than, like, Anders's, from what we've seen in dai and the support materials. and she doesn't have the """""slight""""" advantage Solas has - it's obvious she has thought about it a lot, studied about it. she knows what she's talking about.

Can you imagine how much she'd enjoy talking with Avvar mages about spirits? :D They definitely have a different POV than how her clan seemed to have, but theirs is one of respect and integration with the workings of the world, not of fear and distrust.

She'd be the best scholar - she'd be so excited to see all those spirits and talk to all those people, find out what they know...

tho i think she'd be a bit upset if she found out they do actually have rituals to revert possession and it's like. super simple easy stuff. :/

I think it's only easy if it's agreed upon both by the mage and the spirit, though? Their usual method of training mages seems to be a two-way thing, and if one won't let go, then it's considerably harder.

edit: but yeah that would be an upsetting thing to learn about. Oh look! Operating out of fear has led Andrastians and Dalish alike to miss a detail that would have drastically reduced suffering. :/

oh yeah - like that agent you can recruit, that didn't want to let go of her friend-spirit and the spirit didnt want to go either bevause they liked each other a lot. but that is such a crucial detail, such a hard thing to see missed? like... idk, even the circles could have developed the techniques better, with the resources they had, if they had been willing to listen and study and learn instead of being, like, totally not slavers or anything.

(i feel i'm becoming less and less coherent? please inform if i start to not make sense)
