i'm so glad that this post confirmed that i really did hear "florida" in the room where it happens 'cause i was initially convinced that i had misheard something, that the "florida" i heard was the result of the characters saying "new york" and "virginia" at the same time, that even though it sounded like florida it couldn't be but lol it totally was
omf that's brilliant LMM YOU GOTTA BE MORE CAREFUL ABOUT THEATER PEOPLE THEY CAN AND WILL SHOUT WHATEVER WHEN THERE ARE 'CROWD' SCENES YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS YOU'RE ONE OF THEM
I knew I heard "Florida"! The 2004 presidential election here in the US was the first one that I was old enough to vote in. Some Genius commenters pointed out the callbacks to the rhetoric of that particular election in The Election of 1800 - I'm glad I wasn't imagining them!
There's also an alternate version of Schuyler Defeated posted here (op deleted, hence my link to a random tumblr user). And, belatedly - @roach the reason, I think, that so many people are into it WITHOUT there being a bootleg up anywhere or any way to watch it is that the soundtrack is borderline-operatic in its levels of Everything Being Sung. There isn't dialog in between the songs, except for one very short exchange that was cut from the soundtrack; everything's there. So you get the whole play, even if you just listen to it.
Wait, you got kicked out of theater for that? That is not nearly the gayest thing I have encountered in a theater.
Once I went to go see spamalot with a friend who knew pretty much every actor in it, and during the scene where they sing about how gay Lancelot is, they hung a massive pride flag from the set. My friend leaned over and whispered, "that's the most unnecessary place to put it." Apparently they were all queer.
Y'all have seen this, right? And if not please allow me to ruin your day >:] (aka Jo finally stopped putting off listening to the last two songs and needs to share the emotional pain)
If you guys haven't looked at the annotations on genius.com, do it!! LMM even comments on there too. It's so great. I've been listening non stop for like the last three days and now I'll have random lines from different songs playing one right after the other in my head, it's great.
So in my club's general body meetsing, the officers report on what they did that weekend, usually in a funny way. One of the officers last week, instead of his report just shouted. "I AM THE A-L E-X A-N-D E-R WE ARE MEANT TO BE" And by the time he got to "E-X" most of my friend group was shouting with him and it was hilarious and great. The people who didn't shout were like "what."
@Dist let it be known that should I meet you in person I will not be above shouting "WHAT'S YOUR NAME, MAN"
I so want to gush about the performance on Facebook, but I don't know if it aired in Brazil and my Facebook friendgroup isn't exactly knowledgeable in musicals about foreign political figures. But, gosh, what a good. I really wish they'd release the full thing on streaming or dvd or something, since going to nyc isn't exactly a thing that's going to happen in the foreseeable future
i just remembered that i got into hamilton 'cause i watched a billford (gravity falls) vid set to you'll be back, and that got me thinking, "this musical has good music" and got me looking for the rest. and i have no idea why i feel the urge to say this now, but i do.
...Do you have a link of that? Because I went looking and... well, I found this! (the audio quality is really bad though ugh)
